No Longer Walking Toward You
Piper Hayes · Completed · 9.1k Words
Introduction
When it was time for the team photo, the only open spot left was next to my boyfriend, Harrison Kent.
I'd barely moved over when he waved toward the back of the crowd. "Lacey, come stand here."
Lacey Monroe was my best friend. She squeezed in beside him with a smile. The second the camera clicked, the whole terrace erupted in whistles.
"Okay, these two belong on a magazine cover!"
"Since when does Mr. Kent ask anyone to take a picture with him? I mean, come on."
Someone popped a bottle of champagne in the middle of it all. The crowd pushed forward, I got shoved into a table, and a broken glass sliced open my palm. Barely a few feet away, Harrison was bent over, wiping champagne off Lacey's dress.
The company had a strict rule against dating your boss. For three years, I'd helped him keep us perfectly hidden, believing that one day he'd finally take my hand in front of everyone.
But standing there with my bleeding hand clenched, I suddenly didn't want to wait anymore.
I was done with a relationship that could never see the light of day.
Chapter 1
Eleanor's POV
To celebrate landing our biggest client of the year, the company rented out the entire terrace of a beachside bar.
"You need a bandage? There's a first aid kit behind the bar."
In the restroom, a girl I didn't know had spotted the blood on my hand and was nice enough to say something. I thanked her, turned on the faucet, and rinsed the bits of glass out of my palm.
I had a text from Lacey, sent forty minutes earlier: "The group chat people are just bored. Don't let it get to you, okay?"
I sent back a single "K."
Harrison's had come in just a few minutes ago: "That was just for show earlier. We'll talk when we get home."
For show. Again.
Over the past three years, he'd pulled some version of this more times than I could count.
At last year's Christmas party, when the drawing put us on the same team, he claimed he had to take a call and walked off right then and there. For the company anniversary photo, he made a point of standing in the row farthest from me. Whenever I spoke up in meetings, his eyes stayed glued to the projector screen.
Our coworkers noticed all of it. They figured Harrison couldn't stand me, and little by little, nobody wanted to be around me either.
I set my phone face down on the sink and didn't reply.
Back on the terrace, everyone was still clinking glasses and laughing like nothing had happened. Only the throbbing in my palm kept telling me I'd meant every word of what I decided earlier.
As the party wound down, a hurricane warning popped up on my phone. Every rideshare app was completely slammed, and somebody nudged Lacey toward Harrison.
"Mr. Kent, the hurricane's about to hit. It's not safe for Lacey to be out here waiting on a ride by herself. Why don't you just drive her?"
Harrison didn't say no. He just asked, "I'm heading toward Coconut Grove. Anybody else going that way?"
His tone was casual, but his eyes were on me.
My chest tightened.
Two years earlier, I'd worked until midnight, and a man followed me from the parking garage all the way to the elevator. Ever since then, I'd been too scared to walk anywhere alone after dark. When Harrison found out, he started parking two blocks away every night to wait for me after work.
"I live out that way too..." I started.
"I've got everyone else covered!" The account manager stepped right in front of me. "Mr. Kent, you go ahead and take Lacey."
Harrison's eyes stayed on my face for a moment. In the end, all he said was, "Thanks, I appreciate it." Then he turned and walked Lacey to the parking lot.
When the account manager heard my address, he looked a little put out. "You live in Coconut Grove too? Why didn't you say something earlier? It's already past one. Going all the way out there would eat up half my night. You should just call a ride. You'll get one if you wait it out."
I didn't say anything. I just opened the rideshare app.
Estimated wait time: 58 minutes.
In the group chat, people were checking in to say they'd made it home. Then someone, I couldn't tell who, steered the conversation somewhere else.
"Did anyone else notice a certain someone kept trying to cozy up to the boss all night?"
"Yes! She literally scooted over for the photo and he called Lacey instead. So awkward."
"Come on, him asking who was going his way was just him being polite. He obviously wanted some time alone with Lacey. And of course somebody actually bought it."
Lacey replied: "Guys, stop guessing! He's just looking out for me because I'm new, that's all."
That only made the chat blow up even more.
"Remember when the intern tripped in the hallway and dropped papers everywhere? Didn't see the boss rushing to help pick those up."
"He hasn't denied it. If you know, you know."
I scrolled through every single message. I couldn't even feel the hurt anymore.
When Lacey heard I was being frozen out at work, she quit her old job without a second thought and joined the company, saying she wanted to be there for me.
Now she was everyone's darling, and all she had left for me was a throwaway "don't let it get to you."
As for Harrison, every time office gossip linked him with Lacey, he told me to focus on my work and not get dragged into pointless drama.
I stared at the screen, remembering the look on his face when he called it pointless. Turns out, to him, my hurt was just as pointless.
The rain started coming down, and the salty wind off the ocean blew it right into my face.
I left the group chat, opened my work email, and sent my resignation letter to HR.
I'd made up my mind to leave. There was no point in putting myself through any more of this.

This could not be real.

Bride To The Werewolf King
MOONLIT CHASE
But no, I had to walk through the park at midnight like an idiot. Now I've seen something I can't unsee—a massive black wolf tearing apart three men, then shifting into the hottest guy I've ever laid eyes on.
Kieran Vaughn. Wealthy lawyer, werewolf, and apparently, he thinks I'm his mate.
Here's the problem: I don't do relationships. I definitely don't do supernatural things. I absolutely don't do rich guys who think they can control my life just because their inner wolf has decided I smell like home.
When hunters start targeting me to get to him, Kieran drags me into his pristine penthouse for "protection." Now I'm living with a man who looks at me like I'm his last meal, whose touch sets my skin on fire, and who's barely holding onto his control.
He says everyone he loves dies. I say that's not my problem except it is because I'm falling for this broken, dangerous man and his beast.
And in his world? Love will get you killed.
CHASING GHOSTS

It's why one winner vanished without a trace... and why someone will do anything to make sure history repeats itself.
Inked Adonis - Mafia Romance
Of me saying I want to climb him like a tree.
And he just. Texted. Back.
It's the dog's fault, really.
If this untrained Great Dane I'm walking had any manners at all, I never would've ended up here:
With my leash wrapped around the most gorgeous man I've ever seen.
Lucky for me, the guy is a good sport about it.
(Although his joke that “Dogs take after their owners” hits a little too close to home when Rufus starts humping his leg.)
He leaves me with his business card and a smile that makes my knees weak.
I'm still pinching myself as me and the bestie resume our walk.
“Methinks you had a little crush on him,” she accuses.
Not thinking and a little flustered by the whole experience, I reply, “I’d wrap my legs around his waist tighter than that leash.”
THAT'S when she reveals that she'd been recording my response.
THAT'S when she gives me the most devilish grin I've ever seen and says, “You're welcome.”
And THAT'S when she hands me my phone and reveals...
She sent the recording to him.
My heart is in my throat as those three little dots appear…
Then a text.
“PROVE IT.”
Bloodright
Ashveil University is not what it looks like in the photographs. The students here carry something that shifts their eyes at the edges of anger. The northwest trees hold an attention that trees should not be able to hold. And the empty chair at the council table, the one nobody sits in, the one nobody explains, has been waiting three hundred years for one specific person to arrive.
Nobody told Adaline she was that person. They classified her as Dormant. A blank space in a file. Nothing.
She is the opposite of nothing.
Beneath the campus, three ancient entities are waking up. Every house in the pack world wants to control what runs in her blood. The boy sent to assess her has stopped being able to do his job. And the woman who has been three steps ahead of everyone since before Adaline was born is not a villain. She is a warning. She is what Adaline would have become if nobody had found her.
The suppression field holding everything together is failing. The clock is running. And the only way to stop what is coming requires Adaline to give up the thing she can least afford to lose.
She already knows her answer. She decided before anyone told her the full price.
My Alpha's Fake Luna
Those were the last words my Alpha whispered before he severed our bond.
I believed our marriage was over.
I was wrong.
For two years, I thought Alpha Michael never loved me.
Every misunderstanding pushed us farther apart.
Every silence broke another piece of my heart.
While another woman slowly took my place.
But everything changed after the death of the Grand Alpha.
My mate began watching me.
Protecting me.
Holding me whenever I fell.
Looking at me like he was terrified of losing me.
If he hated me...
Why did he keep risking everything for me?
And why did everyone panic the moment I finally chose another future?
Love's Deadly Equation
I was sent to her.
To watch her. To protect her. And, when the order comes… to kill her.
My name is Keegan Caffery. I’m the Carter Mafia’s best hitman. I don’t miss. I don’t fail.
At least, I didn’t use to.
I don’t know what it is about her that got to me first—her mouth, her mind, or the way she looks at me like I’m not what she should fear.
I’ve had a gun to her head since I walked into her life.
She knows it.
And she still doesn’t run.
She just watches me back like she’s studying a problem she refuses to call impossible.
She’s the one variable I can’t control.
And God help me… I don’t want to.
I have an order. I have loyalty. I have a trigger.
But every time I imagine it—
I can’t stand it.
Her or me. That’s the math.
It’s a deadly equation I don’t want to solve.
⬥ Maisie ⬥
I’m not ordinary. I stopped pretending long ago.
My name is Maisie Seo. IQ 145. Clinical genius.
Which sounds impressive until you realize what it actually means: I don’t fit anywhere people expect me to.
I see patterns everywhere. Outcomes before they happen. People like equations I’ve already solved.
It gets lonely in a world you’ve already figured out.
So I dull myself down. Smoke the edges off. Pretend, badly, to be the kind of normal that lets people stay.
Then he walked in.
I knew what he was immediately. Dangerous. Intentional. Wrong in all the right ways.
I should be afraid of him.
I keep waiting for that to kick in.
Instead, I’m fascinated.
Because for the first time in my life… I’ve found something I can’t solve.
He is my deadly equation.
