Chapter 5
In the end, Sally was the woman Arthur truly loved.
Only by getting divorced could he marry her as soon as possible.
That's why he was in such a hurry.
Five years of trying to keep their marriage together couldn't compare to one smile from Sally.
Eleanor couldn't help but tremble slightly, but she didn't turn around.
Her voice was steady, without any emotion, just saying flatly: "Fine!"
After that, she didn't stop walking and walked side by side with Lucas.
She showed no attachment at all, leaving so decisively.
Arthur felt a bit lost.
Maybe she also wanted to end this marriage quickly?
Or maybe she had already found her way out?
He stared blankly at the two figures walking away, unable to move for quite a while.
"Arthur, I'm a little hungry. Can we go get something to eat?"
Her voice was sweet and soft, pulling him back to reality.
Arthur raised his wrist to check his watch, his brows slightly furrowed.
"I have a meeting soon. Next time."
For some reason, Arthur seemed a bit listless.
They had been busy at the hospital all morning, and there was still a lot of work to do at the company.
Sally nodded obediently and smiled.
"I'll listen to you. We can just grab a lunchbox on the way. I know a really good place, and it's right on our way back to the office."
Eleanor and Lucas also just had a quick meal on the road, then rushed back to the company.
In Eleanor's office, Lucas handed her the documents he was holding.
"Here's the contract from before. Do you want to look at it later?"
After all, she had just been injured and probably wasn't in a good mood.
Anyway, the contract was right here, and he wasn't in a hurry to get it signed.
"No need, I'll look at it now."
Eleanor didn't mind at all. She took the contract and read through it carefully, page by page.
Work was work, and she never let personal emotions affect her job.
Otherwise, a competitive company like the Boleyn Corporation wouldn't have kept her for six years.
For six years, she had worked hard, sacrificing almost all her time and energy for the company.
Suddenly, she looked up and pointed to a section of text: "I think this part isn't quite right. Your company only says it will provide the materials the Boleyn Corporation needs to purchase promptly, but there's no specific timeframe. If your company doesn't have these materials for a year, do we have to wait a year?"
She spotted the loophole in the document right away.
According to this document, the other party could completely delay delivery, and the Boleyn Corporation would have no way to deal with it. If there were supply problems that delayed production, the losses would be huge.
"In my opinion, this should be changed to a one-month deadline. If your company still hasn't delivered on time after one month, you should pay triple compensation according to the rules."
Lucas laughed awkwardly and gave Eleanor a thumbs up: "Eleanor, you're amazing! Without your excellent abilities, the Boleyn Corporation wouldn't be thriving like it is today. You and David Turner are truly the company's two main pillars."
Eleanor smiled faintly and pushed the document back: "Please revise it and bring it back."
After thinking for a moment, she added, "Once this is done, I'll definitely treat you to dinner."
Lucas made an OK gesture: "No problem, I'll do it exactly as you asked. Of course, having dinner with a beautiful woman is my honor."
He stood up and winked at Eleanor, still looking carefree as usual.
"Whatever you need, feel free to come to me anytime. My phone is always on for you."
With that, Lucas opened the door and left.
The office became quiet.
Eleanor picked up the top document and started entering data into the computer.
It wasn't until evening that she finished processing those documents.
There were hardly any people left in the company, just a few employees still working overtime.
Seeing Eleanor come out, someone greeted her: "Eleanor, you haven't left yet?"
Eleanor rubbed her aching temples and smiled: "I'm leaving now. What about you guys?"
Her voice was gentle, her tone friendly.
These employees were all part of the company, and she treated them like family. This way, the company had more cohesion.
Because of this, she had great influence in the company.
Arthur only made decisions; he never cared about these management matters.
"We still need to work a bit longer."
"Thank you for your hard work!"
Eleanor was very polite.
Many times, did she say and do these things just for the company? Or was it more for Arthur?
But no matter how much she did, Arthur didn't seem to appreciate it.
Inexplicably, her heart felt a bit cold.
After getting off the elevator, Eleanor got in her car and drove straight to her own place.
She had her own house, so she didn't need to live in their marital home.
Besides, she thought Arthur probably didn't want her living there now anyway.
She was so tired. After getting home, she didn't think about anything and went to bed right after a quick shower.
For several days, Arthur was busy with work and almost forgot about the divorce agreement.
As the company president, he really did have a lot to handle.
Eleanor was actually grateful for this busyness. If they could keep putting it off, maybe they wouldn't have to get divorced?
It wasn't until five days later, when she got home from work, that she felt a wave of nausea, like something acidic in her stomach was about to come up.
She leaned against the wall, retching for a long time, but nothing came out.
Because she was often busy with company matters and didn't eat regularly, she frequently had stomach problems.
She thought maybe her stomach condition was acting up again?
Just then, her phone rang shrilly from inside her bag.
The nausea got a bit better. She took out her phone to check the caller ID—it was Arthur.
"Where are you?"
As soon as she answered, his voice came through quickly.
As if waiting even one more second for her was a waste of time.
"At my place."
She spoke clearly, deliberately emphasizing it.
"Come to the villa and sign the divorce agreement while you're at it."
His tone left no room for discussion. He wasn't asking her opinion, just giving orders.
"Got it."
Her tone was flat, and then she hung up directly.
He finally had time.
This should end today, right?
Her heart couldn't help but ache, but what had to be faced still had to be faced.
She stood up, opened the door, and left.
Soon, she arrived at the villa.
This villa was their marital home. They had spent five years together here.
When she went in, Arthur was already sitting there.
She walked over and immediately spotted the divorce agreement on the table.
Those big words looked particularly harsh.
She sat down across from him. Just as she was about to pick up the agreement to sign it, she heard Arthur speak coldly.
"The day after tomorrow is Grandpa's birthday. Let's go pick out a gift together."
She had been so busy with work these past few days that she almost forgot the day after tomorrow was Nathan's birthday.
Nathan Boleyn had always been good to her and liked her very much. In previous years, she had personally chosen Nathan's gifts.
Eleanor nodded: "Okay."
"You still need to attend with me like before. I don't want to tell Grandpa about our divorce yet. He's old, and I don't want to upset him too much."
"No problem."
Her answer was quick, without objection.
She actually felt a bit lucky.
If the day after tomorrow was Nathan's birthday celebration, at least they didn't have to sign this divorce agreement today, right?
Seeing he had nothing more to say, she stood up: "Is there anything else?"
At that moment, Arthur pulled out the divorce agreement and placed it on the table.
"Did you forget what you came here to do?"
