Chapter 2 Why is he everywhere?

Lena POV

"Aaron!" A voice suddenly called, quite calm and authoritative that my eyes had to trace where the voice was coming from.

And there he was, a striking resemblance to Aaron but looks older and more like a gentleman unlike this beast.

My eyes kept going up and up as he's so tall that I doubt if I'd be reaching him on the collarbone.

"Let her go" he orders stepping forward and his eyes, hazel. It's like he has gone from cute, to attractive and then gorgeous.

I've seen him but only on magazines and it's the first time I'm looking at him up this close and for real.

It's like he was moulded from a different caste and even the catwalk loves how he glides his legs with authority and purpose.

I'm focusing on the wrong thing but gods, I'm staring at a beautiful man who has my jaw dropping.

When he was close, he placed a hand on Aaron’s shoulder, and the grip on my wrist loosened just enough for me to pull away.

I eyed Aaron who hadn't taken his furious gaze off me but I dart my gaze to Adam who was now staring.

For a moment, I felt something, pity, perhaps, or a shared understanding of being judged for things beyond our control.

"That's no way to treat a woman!" Adam snapped yet in a calm tone but then Aaron shrugged his hand off him.

"Well, maybe you should stick to being in the library than intervening!" Aaron muses like he'd start a fight yet his eyes weren't going off me.

Adam raised his brows at me as he suddenly reached out to me, hauling me to stand beside him.

For a moment, time stopped when his hand touched my arm, it was electrifying that the wolf in me snapped her head.

"Maybe you should offer your condolences to the late alpha, than venting your frustration on a girl who doesn't want you" Adam sneered as it sounded more like a mockery to Aaron who felt insulted now and i wore a satisfied smile.

Aaron clenched his fists as his eyes kept looking at my wrist which Adam holds now.

It's like he has gone still as he licked his lower lip and ran a finger through his hair.

A habit I've learnt he was used to when he's anxious but I doubt if that's how it looks like.

He almost said a word when her voice cuts in...xandra.

"Babe"

When from afar, it sounded like a ticking bomb.

She was catwalking towards us, from behind Aaron and when our eyes, she looked startled as her lips twisted with disgust.

Once she was closer enough, she locked her arm with Aaron and then lean on him while offering a faint smile.

A reminder that he chose her even though she barely knows about Aaron and I.

Her presence only brew up pain in my chest and I just needed to leave...as staring at my nightmares only worsen the situation.

I could see the tension in Aaron’s jaw, the way his eyes roam to his brother’s face, then back to me, as if he were trying to convince himself that the anger was still there.

"Oh look who we have here" she started in between her teeth. Xandra looked charged to scorn at me, like her whole life depends taunting me with her words.

"If it's not..."

She hadn't complete her statement when Adam suddenly turns me around with him, like he read my instinct.

“You look like you could use a drink. Come on, let’s get you something warm. It’s not every day you see a familiar face at a funeral.” he mutters with a warm smile on his lips but my dull eyes were a response that i wouldn't be needing that.

"Well, I don't think now will be the right time...I have to catch up an early flight" I lied stopping half-way as I just want to run away as always from problems.

"You have a problem with Aaron right?" He said but more like a guess as his soft eyes locks with mine.

My silence must have given him a hint and he sucked his breath.

"He's just rogue but he could be really sweet..."

Aaron?

"Or you mean the devil" I cut in trying to balance my emotions which surges through me.

He let out a soft chuckle, one that almost made me break out of character but then, I just cleared my throat.

"That makes me one then, because you're the only angel I've seen" he complimented in such a way that he had my heart melting.

Now I could see him more clearly, that sharp jawline, smooth skin like he was some pampered kid and never has to fight to gain what he wants.

I turned red flustered by his words which had a way to have me hooked on him and that cocky smile, it was giving a come hither vibe.

However, I brush that feeling aside, I haven't recovered from the depression Aaron put me through that I lost my zeal to pursue my biggest dream.

I didn't even know Adam was already leading me to the garden, a distance away from the cemetery.

On getting there, I spotted a low wooden table was already set with a steaming pot of tea and a plate of honey‑drizzled pastries.

"Wow, seems like you were inviting a guest" I asked already surrendering to his request as he pulled out a chair for me, offering a slight bow that seems charming.

"Well, it could be and you stole the spotlight"

He's nice. The opposite of that brute who's eyes I felt were still feasting on me.

A wry smile left my lips as though I was impressed by that.

I shouldn't be comfortable, not when it's around someone relating to Aaron.

I hate the confidence in Aaron tone, that he's the heir when he has an older brother who'd fit perfectly for that position.

Although, I'm yet to see his father.

“Make yourself comfortable,” Adam said interrupting my thoughts and, slide a cup toward me.

He was so nice, the kind I've always wished for and the way he looks at me like I'm the only thing that matters right now.

I wrapped my hands around the cup, inhaling the tea and barely knowing the herbs used.

As I took a sip, I caught Adam watching me, his eyes di

luted but keen, as if he could see the cracks I was trying so hard to hide.

I can't repeat the same mistake.
