Chapter 1
Chloe's POV
My half-brother Leo turned eighteen today, and the pack had gathered at dawn for his Wolf Soul Awakening Ceremony.
He knelt in the frost-covered grass of the estate clearing while the pack elder placed both hands on his shoulders, and every wolf in attendance held their breath.
Leo threw his head back and screamed.
Then the black wolf soul tore free.
It rose out of him in a surge of dark energy, massive and solid, before folding back in the same breath — and then he was on all fours in the frost as a black wolf, shaking the cold from his fur, iron-and-smoke scent rolling outward in waves, aggressive and alive.
He had made it.
The pack erupted. My mother burst into tears.
This is what matters most in the pack — a wolf soul marks you as one of them, fully and finally. It means the pack acknowledges you, counts you among their own. Without it, you are nothing the hierarchy can place.
I stood at the back of the crowd and watched the pack surge forward to congratulate him, watched my mother's face light up with a pride I had never once seen directed at me. My hands stayed folded in front of me, perfectly still, while something cold settled into my chest and did not move.
If I had a wolf soul, would she look at me like that?
I was twenty-two. Four years past my Awakening date. I had tried everything — every remedy, every desperate quiet prayer on full moon nights when the rest of the pack was running and I was standing still, waiting for something that never came. The pack had a word for what I was, and they did not mean it kindly.
Accept it, I told myself. You're a wolf with no wolf soul. That's just what you are.
But there was a small stubborn thing inside me that still refused to let go, and I had never quite managed to silence it.
There was a time when none of this was my life. I remembered my father's voice, the way he smelled like cedar, the way he looked at me like I was the whole world and he wanted me to know it. When he was alive, I knew exactly where I belonged. Then he was gone, and my mother remarried, and I learned very quickly what it felt like to become invisible inside your own family. She had her new husband Richard, her new home, her stepdaughter Mia — sweet-faced and vanilla-scented and everything a pack mother could want. Leo came along and completed the picture.
I had been an outsider in this house for a long time. The way my mother's eyes moved past me, always, to land on someone else.
Standing here watching Leo shake out his fur while she cried happy tears in the front row was not something I could keep doing — not for another second.
I turned and walked away before anyone could see my face.
Around me the celebration carried on — Leo's name, Leo's scent, Leo's wolf soul announced to every corner of the grounds like a flag being planted.
I pulled out my phone.
The notification was already there on the screen, the one I had set three weeks ago and had been looking forward to ever since. Three-year anniversary. I looked at it, and felt something in my chest that had been wound very tight begin, quietly, to ease.
I put my phone away and went to my atelier.
The wedding gown was on the dress form where I had left it, and the moment I walked into my atelier and saw it, the morning fell away entirely.
I had finished the last seam two nights ago — three months of work, every evening after my shifts, every stitch placed with more hope than I usually allowed myself. I was a clothing designer by trade, and I had made hundreds of garments for other people, but this one I had made entirely for myself, in secret, for a moment I had been quietly certain was coming.
I put it on.
The zip slid up smooth and the bodice settled against my ribs, and I turned to face the mirror. The bias cut skimmed my waist and fell clean to the floor, and the white silk made my complexion look warmer, softer. My dark waves fell past my shoulders, and the small embroidered roses at the collar made the whole thing feel like something out of a dream I had been too practical to let myself have. I looked, for the first time in a long time, genuinely beautiful — not almost-there, not good-enough. Beautiful.
I let myself imagine it: walking toward Arthur in this dress, the pack gathered, his family watching. No more quiet restaurants and borrowed afternoons. Just us, finally, in front of everyone.
I had seen the ring box three weeks ago — navy velvet, tucked in the back of his desk drawer. He was finally going to propose. I had stood very still for a long moment, and then the tears had come before I'd even decided to let them .
Tonight was our three-year anniversary. There was no better moment than this.
"Tonight, I'm going to be Mrs. Arthur Windsor," I said out loud, my voice coming out higher than usual, bright with something I couldn't contain. "He's going to propose. Tonight." My heart was beating so hard against my ribs it almost hurt. Three years! I was finally going to be acknowledged. The thought made me dizzy with happiness.
I had met Arthur through Selena. Selena, my closest friend since university — and Arthur was her uncle, a future Delta who had sat across from me at a casual dinner and asked questions like he was genuinely interested in the answers. I had not expected to like him. I had certainly not expected him to pursue me, gently and persistently, until I stopped pretending I didn't feel it too.
The spare key to his apartment pressed into my hand in our second year. The way he always remembered the small things — my coffee order, my favorite flowers, the earrings my father had given me that he once spent twenty minutes in the cold helping me find.
When he suggested keeping our relationship private for his parents , I had agreed without hesitation, because I understood. His family was traditional. These things required careful handling. I had been patient. I had believed in him.
I had never thought this day would come so quickly.
I changed, pulled on the dress he had picked for me two Christmases ago, and checked my reflection one last time — flushed, bright-eyed, smiling like I had forgotten how to stop.
I grabbed my bag and the spare key and was out the door.
The distance wasn't far from his apartment . I let myself in and pushed the door open, already smiling.
"Arthur?" I called out, stepping inside, the bag of Belgian chocolates swinging from my hand. "I brought your favorites — the sea salt ones you always—"
The words died in my throat.
The living room was in disarray. A dress shirt crumpled over the arm of the couch. Two wine glasses abandoned on the coffee table, both half-drunk, lipstick smudged on one rim. A woman's heel lying on its side near the rug, strap still buckled, stepped out of in a hurry.
And the scent hit me before my eyes had finished processing any of it — vanilla, thick and settled. Underneath it, Arthur's whiskey warmth. The two of them braided together in the air of his apartment .
The bag of chocolates slipped from my hand and hit the floor.
No. Three years. You trust him. There's an explanation—
Just then, the sounds of a man's panting and a woman's moaning floated down from upstairs. My mind felt like it had exploded, my thoughts shattering into pieces.
My body made the decision before my mind caught up — my feet were already moving toward the stairs, my hand finding the railing and gripping it until my knuckles went white. The vanilla thickened with every step, sweet and cloying, coating the back of my throat in a way I couldn't swallow down.
Halfway up: a skirt, pooled on the landing like it had been stepped out of mid-stride.
Another few steps: his belt, unbuckled and left where it fell.
Higher still: a black lace bra, caught on the banister post.
Each one like a knife driving deeper, but I kept climbing. The sounds were louder now — breathy moans, low rough groans, the unmistakable rhythm of it — and then, cutting through everything else, clear as a bell: "Faster, Arthur. Don't stop."
I knew that voice.
Mia. My stepsister. The girl with vanilla-scented .
I stopped at the top of the stairs. The bedroom door was cracked open. My hand found the doorframe. I looked through.
Mia's laugh came first. Then her voice, sweet and poison-bright: "My elder poor stupid sister has absolutely no idea, does she?"
Then Arthur's voice, lazy and unbothered, the voice of a man with everything he wants already in reach: "She was always just a stand-in. I was only ever passing the time."
Three years. I was just a stand-in .
I stood there with my knuckles bloodless against the doorframe and I could not move, could not think, could not do anything but stand there while the vanilla curled through the gap and something in my stomach turned over slow and nauseating .

Falling for my boyfriend's Navy brother
"What is wrong with me?
Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.
He’s my boyfirend’s brother.
This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.
**

I'm falling for my boyfriend's brother.
**
I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.
Especially not her.
Especially not someone like her.
She’s not my problem.
And I’ll make damn sure she never becomes one.
But when my eyes fell on her lips, I wanted her to be mine.

A PRINCESS IN DISGUISE; BOUND TO THE ENEMY KING
I fell to my knees, the cold marble digging into my skin. I had studied for years in the flickering candlelight, memorizing every herb and poison to pass the healer's exam. I wanted freedom. I wanted to save my mother from the servant's quarters. I placed second. I thought I had won my life back.
But the King didn't give me a badge of honor. He gave me a death sentence.
"Raven Thorne shall be wed to the King of Grok," he announced, his voice echoing in the silent hall. Princess Ellie, the woman who had tormented me for years, slapped her hands over her mouth to hide her cruel laughter. She was supposed to marry the Beast. Now, I was the lamb being sent to the slaughter in her place.
They say King Liam drinks the blood of his enemies. They say he is more monster than man. And now, I have to walk into his bedroom, wearing the Princess's silk gown, and pray he doesn't tear me apart.
I looked at the King, tears streaming down my face. "I'll do it," I whispered, my voice trembling. "But my mother must be safe."
I sold my body and soul to a monster to save her. But when the carriage door opened and I finally looked into the Beast's golden eyes, I realized the terrifying truth...
He wasn't a stranger. He was the man I met in the woods.
Pregnant by My Husband's Rival Alpha
Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.
Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?

"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
