Chapter 4 Settling Old Scores from the Past
Texas, inside the Bruce Villa.
Merlin sat in a chair wearing an expensive tailcoat, swirling his wine glass and taking a sip of red wine. "At this family dinner, my dear brother Wayne is probably suffering in prison right now."
Tonight's dinner, he had invited quite a few famous people—each one a powerful figure from various circles.
"Dear Merlin, about that business deal I mentioned to you before, I wonder what you think about it?"
A middle-aged man with blonde hair walked up to Merlin, speaking to him in the most respectful tone.
With pride in his eyes, Merlin said with a chuckle, "Eric, don't worry. I'm very interested in the experiment you mentioned."
"That's wonderful, thank you so much." Eric quickly smiled.
Just then, a man in a suit came running over, anxiety and urgency written all over his face.
He ran to Merlin's side and said quietly, "Mr. Bruce, this is bad. I heard Wayne escaped from prison."
The smile on Merlin's face suddenly froze. He stood up and said, "Eric, I'm so sorry, something's come up. Please excuse me."
Walking to the back garden, Merlin couldn't help but curse, "Fuck! What are those people at White Fox Prison doing? How could they let that piece of trash get away?"
"I, I heard it was people from Predatory Eagle who broke him out." The man answered honestly.
"Predatory Eagle? Those little birds dare to operate on Blackwater's turf—they've got some nerve." Merlin punched the wall.
"With Predatory Eagle's people involved, I'm afraid he'll come back with reinforcements." The man reminded him.
Merlin snorted coldly, "Of course I know that. Today is the day I inherit the estate—I can't let that piece of trash Wayne ruin it."
The man asked, "Mr. Bruce, what should we do?"
"Beef up security. I won't allow any mistakes." Merlin waved his hand and turned back toward the banquet hall.
Returning to the banquet hall, Merlin was about to take another sip of wine when a violent explosion rang in his ears.
The sudden blast scared the wealthy people who were mingling.
"Oh my God, are we under attack?"
"This is the Bruce Villa—who would dare to break in here?"
"What is security doing? With such a commotion, why aren't they doing anything?"
The crowd was shouting, all filled with deep fear.
Only Merlin stared hard at the entrance, because among the people breaking in, he saw a very familiar figure.
Wayne wore combat gear, surrounded by a group of well-trained guards carrying firearms.
He walked in with everyone surrounding him, drawing all eyes to himself.
"Merlin, four years ago you hired mercenaries on the dark web to kill our parents, then framed me for it. For Emily and Jenny's sake, I held back."
"But you actually dared to go after them. Tell me, where are they now?"
Wayne held a large-caliber handgun, its dark barrel instantly pointing at Merlin.
Four years ago when their parents died, Merlin forged evidence and sent him to prison, taking control of all the Bruce family assets. Back then, for Emily and the others' safety, Wayne chose to hold back.
But what about these four years? Not only did Merlin not restrain himself, he became even more arrogant, working with Callum to go after his own daughter and wife.
Being held at gunpoint, Merlin showed no fear. Instead, he wore a playful smile. "Wayne, my dear brother, do you know that breaking out of prison isn't a good choice?"
Wayne's eyes flashed with coldness. "You're still as cold-blooded as you were four years ago. Even if they're dead, you can still smile."
"Four years ago when Father and Mother died, all the evidence pointed to you. You killed Father and Mother back then, and now you're going after your brother?"
Merlin's tone instantly turned cold. "Don't forget, this is my turf, and I have Blackwater mercenary security. Do you really think these little birds can protect you?"
Merlin gave the surrounding Blackwater people a look, signaling them to take Wayne out.
With a rustle, the Blackwater mercenaries instantly gathered together, their dark gun barrels all pointing straight in one direction.
Merlin was clearly stunned for a moment, then showed an angry expression. "I pay you so much money, and you point your guns at your employer?"
"Merlin, we at Blackwater have decided not to take this job anymore. The deposit and penalty fee will be transferred to your account on time."
A young man holding a gun showed a gentleman's smile.
A flash of killing intent crossed Merlin's eyes as he roared at them, "Fine, fine, fine. Tell me, how much did Wayne pay you? I'll give you double."
"The price we want, you can't afford." The young man smiled gently, not looking at Merlin but at Wayne in front of him.
Predatory Eagle without its king is just small birds.
But with their king, they are the predators of the sky, the rulers of the entire world.
Everything was for this returning king.
"Merlin, where are Jenny and Emily?" Wayne said as he walked toward Merlin. "If you're willing to tell me, I can give you a quick death."
Seeing both Blackwater and Predatory Eagle mercenaries standing by Wayne's side, Merlin knew he couldn't escape this time, yet he still wore a cruel smile.
"Wayne, you're really naive. But I can give you a little inside information—I heard a certain governor particularly likes mother-daughter pairs—"
Bang!
A gunshot rang out, directly piercing through Merlin's thigh.
The Magnum-caliber handgun instantly blew a huge bloody hole in Merlin's right leg.
The intense pain made cold sweat break out on Merlin's forehead, and his breathing became increasingly rapid.
Looking at Wayne's cold, murderous gaze, he suddenly burst into wild laughter. "Yes, get angry, then despair. You'll never find them in your lifetime."
The laughter was extremely manic. Even Morrison couldn't help but mutter, "What a lunatic."
Just then, footsteps came from the entrance, accompanied by a loud male voice.
"It's quite lively today. I didn't expect Predatory Eagle people to visit Blackwater's turf."
Merlin stared into the distance, his face full of anger.
"Aaron, tell me, why are you helping Wayne?"
"These little birds are shitting on your head, and you're still cooperating with them."
"I pay you so much money, and you betray me. Tell me why!"
Aaron paid no attention to Merlin's words, his golden eyes fixed on Wayne the whole time.
"Well, well, if it isn't our little mad dog Aaron. Are you here for this party too?"
As soon as Wayne spoke, everyone was too scared to say anything.
Even Merlin didn't expect Wayne to dare mock Aaron, this madman. This guy was dead for sure.
Surprisingly, Aaron didn't get angry at all. Instead, he walked up to Wayne and knelt on the ground in a very formal bow. "Wayne, we of the Blackwater mercenary group are willing to submit to you."
