Chapter 4
“Hah? If there’s money involved, then things will be much easier!”
“As long as you can help me, I’m willing to give you tens of millions!” Gil Carroll thumped his chest. “And the Carroll family owes you a favor!”
“Money, huh? Too much of it isn’t very useful either.” Walter William rubbed his chin. “In the Beck Kamen family…”
“Beck Kamen?” Gil Carroll was momentarily stunned, but then he immediately understood what he meant. His face turned fierce. “Beck Kamen’s father owns a pharmaceutical factory of some size. But compared to my Carroll family, it’s nothing at all!”
“Carol! Don’t believe that worthless guy’s words! He was in a vegetative state for half a year—what the hell does he even know?”
“Then let’s go now.”
“Carol! Carol!”
Snap!
“Small town… What… What’s going on here?” Chad Norton’s tongue seemed to be stuck in his mouth.
“Uncle Norton, don’t worry. There’s no problem at all. You know what the Carroll family does for a living. Mr. Carroll hasn’t been in good health lately, right? They’ve done quite a few organ transplants over the years!”
“Hey man… what’s your name, sir?” Gil Carroll kindly helped Walter William get into the car.
“Peter Rees.”
“Does Mr. Thirst have any plans there?” Jill Carroll asked.
“Find the source of cholera, and then destroy it.”
“…”
Are you serious?
Gil Carroll’s lips twitched slightly, and a hint of doubt arose in his mind.
Feeling a bit uneasy, Jill Carroll tapped on her phone screen and sent a message to her father.
Soon, the car arrived at the Carroll family’s mansion. It was part of a luxurious residential area, with the Carroll family owning a large portion of it. Strangely enough, the colors of the flowers and plants in the yard were rather awkward to describe. They weren’t withered, but still, they looked quite strange at first glance.
Pushing open the car door, Walter William saw several people gathered at the main entrance of the mansion.
The man asking the questions was middle-aged, with a barely noticeable hint of hostility in his expression. It seemed he must have gotten into a lot of trouble when he was younger.
“Tsk, it’s obvious that someone with ill intentions has messed with the feng shui in your house. As for those so-called evil spirits you mentioned, I can’t say for sure yet. I need to enter the house to investigate. But don’t worry, with me here, the Carroll family will be safe!” Master Zhang said proudly.
“That’s great, that’s great! Hey, Jill Carroll, you’re back?”
“Yeah, Dad, what are you doing?” Jill Carroll was a little puzzled, but she still introduced him, “Dad, this is the master I told you about—Peter Reese. I’ve brought him here to help our family!”
Master Zhang raised an eyebrow, examined Walter William carefully, and sneered, “What kind of brat is this? If he has the audacity to try to swindle money, he probably doesn’t even have the means to spend it!”
“I can protect the Carroll family.”
“Nonsense! What kind of person have you brought back, Jill Carroll?” Brett Carroll snapped angrily, his face darkening instantly. “Spouting nonsense! And you still claim to be protecting the Carroll family?”
“Jill Carroll, you didn’t happen to meet some swindler along the way, did you?” Mrs. Carroll added, her voice shrill and piercing. She stepped forward and said to Walter William, “You worthless brat! Someone, break his legs!”
“Madam, please calm down first.” Master Zhang stopped the bodyguards who wanted to step forward. He looked at Walter William with a sly smile. “Well then, you wretches surely have no idea of the incredible powers of those who practice cultivation. Wait until I’ve completed my spell, and then I’ll settle accounts with you!”
As he spoke, he stretched out his hand again. A faint white light gathered at the tip of his finger. Then, with a quick tap, the light struck the lawn, producing a soft “bang” sound.
Judging from its power, it’s probably comparable to a pistol!
“Master Zhang is truly a genius!”
Seeing this, Jill Carroll widened her eyes in shock. Her trust in Walter William vanished instantly.
“Hahahaha, it’s not worth mentioning at all. Come on, let’s go inside the house!”
Upon hearing these three words, Lady Karol’s face turned pale instantly. “Ma… Master Zhang, do we also have to go in?”
Just kidding! She has no desire to go in at all. All those horrible incidents that happened back then are still etched in her mind. Even during these days outside, she hasn’t had a single day of proper rest.
“Don’t worry, with me here, no evil forces will dare to hurt you in the slightest!”
“Alright, everyone, go in. Master Zhang is no ordinary person.”
With Brett Carroll’s persuasion, everyone relaxed a little and prepared to enter.
“Slow down! You kid, don’t you also know how to exorcise demons? You go ahead and lead the way!”
“You’re not completely stupid after all,” Walter William chuckled. “Even if you’re unsure of yourself, you know to at least find someone to take the blame for you.”
Before he could retort, Walter William stepped forward and pushed the door open.
The exterior of this mansion looked magnificent and grand, but once the door was opened, a musty smell greeted you.
But strangely, everything in the room was in order, not a speck of dust to be seen. It was just that the lighting was extremely dim, as if no sunlight could get in at all.
Walter William stepped inside first, with everyone else following closely behind.
“Lord of the Carroll family, please explain the situation to us,” Walter William said calmly, not caring whether the sofa was dusty or not. He simply sat down.
“Let’s first explain what happened. Only then can we find a solution and get some clues. Otherwise, how are we supposed to find someone in such a large house?” As he spoke, Walter William paused for a moment. “After all… people are talking, but ghosts are listening.”
The phrase “The devil is listening” sent chills down everyone’s spine. Whether it was just an illusion or not, Jill Carroll even felt as though the air had become several degrees colder.
“I have no idea where you got those random talks from. It seems like you’ve been deceived by scoundrels. Lord Carroll, please explain this to us.”
“Okay, then I’ll tell you. Here’s what happened: About half a month ago, I was asleep when I suddenly woke up. I thought I saw shadows moving behind the crack in the bedroom door. There also seemed to be murmuring sounds coming from outside. I drank a glass of water, and when I regained my senses, those shadows disappeared. I thought it must have been just my imagination. But upon reflection, that day seemed to be when all these strange things started.”
One night, I got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. I noticed that my wife wasn’t there. When I reached the bathroom, I found the door closed. After knocking for a while, my wife finally opened the door. She went back to bed without saying a word. I didn’t think much of it at first. But over the next few days, I noticed that my wife would repeatedly go to the bathroom every night, always when I wasn’t aware of it.
“Finally, once the toilet door wasn’t closed. I quietly opened it, only to witness a horrifying scene.”
What?
Everyone’s curiosity was piqued.
