Chapter 4 CHAPTER FOUR: THE AWAKENING

I prepare for my class in the morning without sparing my roommates a single glance. I will stay out of their way as long as they stay out of mine. If they don't then I'll just report them till someone does something about it.
In order to avoid any confrontation I leave the room very very early. My class is by 11a.m but I leave around 7a.m. that's how desperate I am to get out if this hellhole
I find an empty class and see some of my classmates there already working on some assignment..
I get my own out of my backpack and start working on them
I'm halfway through labelling some potions when I remember that I left a very important textbook back at my room. I let out a huge sigh..
So much for getting out of there early.
I put my stuff in the locker and grab my dormitory pass.
The hallway is somewhat quiet because classes for other years have started.
I'm walking as fast as I can when two guys corner me.
“Where are you going, you powerless human?” one sneers at me.
I recognise him as the one who spoke about the snoring stuff at the cafeteria.
“None of your business” I spit back at him trying to shove my way out.
“Heard you beat up your roommate” the other one sneered, tugging at the end of my hair.
“I didn't do it,get away from me and leave me alone,” I say. I nearly scream but I remember that classes are going on so I keep my voice under control.
“I guess snoring and beating people up is your power” the one with freckles on his stupid face says mockingly.
“I said leave me alone!” I yell at him and suddenly a bright blue surge of light and energy shoots at them and they both fall to the ground, and go unconscious.
My body feels different and I'm vibrating and there's also a strange feeling in my left arm. In a few seconds it stops and when I turn back I see the shocked pale faces of Zephyrion, Cassian and Rylan staring at me
I step out feeling a cool breeze rush past my face. I take deep breaths to calm myself down
What the hell just happened? Did I do that? What does that even mean?
And even worse Zephyrion, Cassian and Rylan just saw that happen, what if they report me and then someone comes to take me away and I don't even know if those two guys are okay
I really hope they are okay. I don't want any more rumours going around that I hurt someone or I beat up someone. My life is already dramatic as it is.
I check the time on the huge clock mounted outside the building. I have just ten minutes till my next class. There's no point going back to the dormitory now and the last thing I want to do right now is deal with any of those stupid girls
I head to a garden with a beautiful fountain at the center just outside the classroom and I sit there trying to gather my thoughts when a girl with short red hair and glasses walks up to me.
“Hi, do you mind if I sit here” she says, pushing her glasses up
“I don't mind” I mutter quietly, still thinking about what just happened.
“You're the new girl right, I just resumed because I've been ill, I heard that you've been bullied a lot and your roommates are making it worse” she says in a sympathetic voice.
I flash her a small tired smile and nod. Here I am struggling with three evil witches as roommates and she has a room all to herself. I'm not jealous but I really wish I had someone who cared about my wellbeing. Growing up and moving between foster homes isn't a very nice thing to do
“Well my name is Liora Knight” she says.
“I'm a werewolf,” she adds.
“Astrielle Vayne, I'm…well…I'm a powerless human” I say, ignoring the thought of what just happened in the hallway.
“Nice to meet you, my room number is 225, you can drop by anytime you want. Don't worry, my dad paid a fortune to make sure I have a single room all to myself, you can drop by anytime you want” she says.
“Thank you so much” I say.
“I have a class now, see you later” she says, shooting me a genuine smile.
I gather my backpack and walk into the class just five minutes before it starts.
We're halfway deep into the lesson when a small folded piece of paper drops onto my lap.
I open it and it says
“Don't run away after class, stay back, we need to talk to you– Z”
I immediately know that it is from Zephyrion. In fact I would be surprised if he didn't talk to me about what happened in the hallway
I look up and glance over to where they always sit and he nods reassuringly at me
I tuck the note between the pages of my old worn journal (I don’t know why some part of me wants to hold on to the note) and I focus on class.
Eliana notices the exchange and if she could shoot lasers out of her eyes I would be fried by now but I roll my eyes at her and I make sure that she sees it.
