Chapter 3 Insisted On Abortion
Lily sent me the address of the hospital where Damian works, and I immediately went to his hospital to voice my protest because he had lied to me—of course, without Lily's knowledge, I didn't tell her that I had asked Damian for dangerous drugs; I only said I needed to see that man again.
"Dr. Damian is currently with a patient; since you do not have an appointment, please wait while I confirm with Dr. Damian." The receptionist was too long-winded. I know this hospital has made Damian the number one ob-gyn doctor here, the most respected, and he can't be casually met even by family members.
But I am a patient who has been deceived by that doctor; I need to express my complaints and discomfort during the consultation with him. "Miss, please be patient. We really can't let you meet Dr. Damian without his approval." The female receptionist started to panic when I forced my way in.
"I will meet him myself; he will surely let me in and talk." Without waiting for his approval, I quickly turned away from the receptionist's desk. When I realized they were chasing me, I quickened my pace. Even though I didn't know where Damian's room was, I kept running until I met someone in the hallway on the second floor. It seems like she is a nurse because she is wearing the typical nurse's uniform.
"Where is Dr. Damian's office?" I asked hurriedly.
"From here, please turn left." The nurse said while pointing in the direction she meant.
"There is a sign in every room; you will find Dr. Damian's room." The nurse's words were interrupted as two receptionists finally reached the second floor to chase after me.
"Don't tell her!" They shouted, but I had already been told. I patted the nurse's shoulder and thanked her before running away. I heard the shouts of the two receptionists again; everyone on the second floor even looked at me. I don't care if I'm called crazy and chased, especially if I have to run around; I don't mind at all because I really want to fall and bleed.
Fortunately, I arrived at Damian's room without any issues. I hurriedly opened the door to his room without permission, catching my breath as I saw Damian with a married couple in front of him.
"Doctor, sorry to interrupt, but we can't tell this woman to wait." The receptionist who just arrived tried to pull my hand out.
"It's okay; I know her. Let she wait here." Damian's words made the two receptionists leave. While waiting on a chair near the door, I heard a woman crying, "We have waited fifteen years to have a son." I was shocked to hear it; this couple waited for pregnancy for over a decade, while I got pregnant after being with Dylan for just two year.
"The quality of your husband's sperm is not good, and your eggs are small. But it's not impossible to conceive." Damian's voice can be heard. He pointed to a piece of paper that I couldn't see.
"We have tried the fertility program with five obstetricians and gynecologists, and you are our only hope, doctor," said the man hopefully.
"Let's try medication first, and if it doesn't work, I recommend trying IVF."
"Alright, doctor, whatever it takes, I will do it." The man was so determined, it seemed he really wanted to have a child, while another man had just abandoned his child.
"A healthy lifestyle must still be maintained during the pregnancy program, keeping your mind calm and staying optimistic can make nature cooperate to fulfill your desires. Please don't blame each other, especially the husband, because the small egg is still very likely to be fertilized, but the quality of the husband's sperm is lacking here. Don't pressure your wife; you both need to do this together."
"Alright, Dr. Damian." The man replied, and from behind I saw his hand tightly gripping his wife's hand with full confidence. There was warmth and love when their tearful eyes met. How I wish for a man who can support me right now, who wouldn't accuse the child I carry as someone else's child like Dylan did, but would be happy to know that I am pregnant with his child and would rush to hold a wedding ceremony. But one in a thousand lucky women, and I'm not one of them.
"This is the medicine you need; take it three times a day, and I will see how it works after three months. Come back here again. I hope for good news in three months, but if you are still not pregnant, I hope you have prepared the option to try IVF or choose not to." Damian looks very commendable; perhaps every doctor indeed has extraordinary contributions, despite the negative perceptions about Damian being an obstetrician-gynecologist and dealing with women's reproductive organs.
Patient Damian left with such great hope; we also crossed paths at the threshold. Seeing the expressions on the faces of this couple made me think of the fifteen-year wait to have a son and how many of their hopes were shattered, the tears, the efforts, and the negative responses from people regarding their health. But they still decided to stay together and support each other. Once again, I feel like an unlucky woman.
After they left, I turned to see Damian at his desk; our eyes met, and I saw Damian's smile again. The conman's smile: "Is there anything I can help you with, miss?" With an innocent face he spoke while tidying up his desk so calmly, even though I really wanted to scratch him right now
"You cheated me!" I accused, walking quickly to his desk and showing him the medicine I bought at the pharmacy yesterday.
"This is a pregnancy support medication; are you intentionally trying to keep this baby in my womb?" I scolded Damian, who once again responded with a smile.
"Sit down, let me tell you how many couples are hoping to have a baby. Let me defend this innocent child in front of desperate mother."
