Chapter 6 she isn’t our luna
The guards seized my arms before I could even breathe, dragging me backward across the polished floor. Their grips were so tight but my gaze stayed fixed on him. On Kael.
He didn’t look at me again. Not once.
His woman was helped to her feet, still coughing, her eyes glistening with tears she didn’t deserve. Her delicate fingers clutched his sleeve as if claiming him, seeking comfort she hadn’t earned.
The sight burned something inside me but I ignored it. I was used to the rejections, used to being the one who didn’t belong.
They dragged me until when they reached at some house. We stopped in front of a smaller building at the edge of the main fortress. It looked less like a prison and more like a guest house.
One of the guards knocked once. A few seconds later, the door opened, revealing a tall woman with silver streaks in her dark hair and kind, watchful eyes. She looked to be in her fifties, dressed simply but neatly.
“Maera,” one of the guards said, his tone formal. “The Alpha’s orders.”
Her gaze drifted over me, assessing quietly. “Orders?”
"This is Amara and she will be staying here for quite some time. I hope that you all treat her respectfully." It wasn’t the guard that talked but probably the beta. I heard the guards calling him beta Henry.
While his voice was cheerful, there was a clear warning in his eyes to everyone. My heart swelled at his kindness. I decided to be compliant and not correct his timeline error. Quite some time, sure.
"Why? Its not like she treated our Luna respectfully!" A young pack member called out and 'yeahs' and 'yes's' echoed across the kitchen. Luna? What the hell was going on in this crazy pack.
"Well, then consider it an order from your Alpha," Henry said with finality in his tone and everyone bowed their heads.
He took me to a room that had no window's and a plain creme and beige colour scheme. "This is your room."
"Room? This feels like a prison psych ward." I informed him. He gave me an apologetic smile and continued.
"You will have guards stationed outside your room so do not try to run. And when I say that I mean it, do not run under any circumstances. Unless of course there is a fire, or an attack or other obvious reasons like that." He smiled sheepishly. He was totally different from the beta in my previous pack. "You are also not allowed to go anywhere without a guard."
"So I am a prisoner now?"
"I wouldn't say that."
"Then what would you call this?" I murmured.
"Free home stay?" Henry joked.
"Why don't you all leave me free and keep your Luna however you want to." I sighed.
"You know that's not true." He said referring to the bitch.
"Everyone calls her Luna, everyone treats her as their Luna and everyone hates their real Luna, so why not free me from the damn pain I will get from staying here!" I exclaimed through gritted teeth.
My rationale human side and my wolf were warring, and I was losing on both fronts. I couldn't pick a side. I wanted to behave like a disciplined omega but the possessiveness and jealously bubbling inside me was aching to stake a claim. The good thing was, I was now healed.
"I'm sorry Amara, alpha's orders. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask the guards to call me, I'll be here as soon as possible." He gave me an apologetic smile and walked out of the room.
Just as soon as he walked out, the door creaked open and a girl walked in slowly and cautiously. She was a gorgeous blonde with deep brown eyes and she was wearing a short white summer dress that suited her perfectly. She kept something on the corner table and slumped on the chair next to it.
"So you're the future Luna!"she said examining me closely.
"Apparently I'm not." I replied totally uninterested.
"Yeah, right." She scoffed, "I saw the way Kael looked at you. Also if anyone else had tried that on Rinna they would be dead by now." Rinna, that was the name of the bitch.
"A wolf is not supposed to hurt their mate, no matter what. The mate bond can make you attracted towards someone, it can't force you to love that person. If you're here to tell me to stay away from him because he is yours then by all means take him." I spat out the words. I clearly sounded like a jealous she-wolf and I hated it but this was my second chance mate and I didn’t want to lose him.
She laughed. She actually laughed. "Oh! Calm your wolf." She said between laughs. "Kael and I will never be a thing."
I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Then why are you here?" I asked her suspiciously.
"Just wanted to see my brother's mate. Finally he got one"
Brother? I just didn't see it.
"Well, he is my brother from another mother, literally. You see, his father, the alpha, cheated on his mate with a human and I was a product of the extra marital affair." She sounded awfully normal about the predicament. An alpha who cheated on his mate wasn't common, as theoretically the stronger the ranking of a couple, the more powerful is their mate bond.
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be. I don't consider the former alpha as my father, but he did give me a wonderful brother. Also Kael's girlfriend Rinna is my best friend." I stiffened.
"Then its a good thing I don't want him." I said pretending to yawn. "I don't want to seem rude, but I am really tired, so I am going to sleep now."
"Okay", She looked at me for a moment and then walked outside the door.
I snorted after her departure. Everything that happened to me today were so much for me to digest.
But at the end of the day, I knew it that I was cursed.
No mate wanted me. Every mate decided to choose another she-wolf over me.
But why me?.
I asked myself inwardly as I laid my body on the cold hard floor that reminded me of my mother's house and her situation.
I curled up against the wall, hoping to see the stars.
