Chapter Three: Good and Evil

The day after the T-virus outbreak, the whole of London was thrown into chaos.

I sat in an underground air-raid shelter, observing the outside world through multiple screens. The streets were filled with infected people, government troops were setting up quarantine zones, and news media were constantly reporting the death toll.

But what I'm most concerned about is the situation with Dr. Franken.

Through the hacked surveillance system, I saw Jack and Emily enjoying breakfast in their "luxury suite".

"Darling, the food here is absolutely wonderful!" Emily said to Jack sweetly, munching on a delicate pastry. "Dr. Frankenstein is so kind to us."

Jack hugged her smugly: "Of course, we saved him, didn't we? Good deeds are rewarded."

I pulled up another surveillance video with a cold smile.

On the third basement level, Dr. Franken was busy in his laboratory. Twisted biological tissues were being cultured in various glass containers, and anatomical diagrams and experimental records hung on the walls.

These idiots have no idea where they live.

At 10 a.m., Jack started his live stream.

"Hello everyone!" Jack waved to the camera. "I'm Jack, and this is my girlfriend, Emily. Today we're going to show you what luxurious living in the apocalypse really looks like!"

Thousands of viewers flooded into the live stream instantly.

"Holy crap, where am I?"

"Wow, that's so luxurious!"

"How did you find this shelter?"

Emily stood up proudly and began to introduce their accommodation: "Look, everyone, this is our living room, with handcrafted Italian furniture. This is the kitchen, and all the ingredients are imported. And this bathroom—it's more luxurious than a five-star hotel!"

Jack added, "Most importantly, it's absolutely safe here! We have a state-of-the-art air purification system; outside viruses simply can't get in."

"And what about those poor wretches?" Emily pointed at the camera, her voice laced with sarcasm. "They're crammed into dilapidated government shelters, eating barely edible compressed biscuits and sleeping on filthy floors."

Jack laughed heartily: "Especially my ex-brother Mark, that good-for-nothing is probably trembling in some corner right now!"

"If we hadn't saved Dr. Frankenstein, we wouldn't be getting this kind of treatment!" Emily boasted. "Kind people always get rewarded."

The comments in the live stream began to diverge.

"I'm so envious!"

How did you meet this PhD student?

However, there are also many dissenting voices:

"Something feels off..."

How could a place like this be free?

"Beware, it might be a trap!"

Seeing these doubts, Jack waved his hand dismissively: "Those sour grapes types shouldn't bother looking! We got in here on merit!"

In the afternoon, they began to do even more outrageous things.

"Everyone, we're going to do a good deed now," Emily said to the camera. "There are many infected people outside who lack food and medicine, and we've decided to help them."

Jack brought out a box of food: "However, our supplies are limited, so we need to charge a fee."

They set up a stall at the entrance of the shelter and began selling food to the survivors outside.

The price is outrageously high.

A head of cabbage, worth 100,000 pounds.

A bottle of mineral water costs 50,000 pounds.

A loaf of bread, 30,000 pounds.

"Are you all crazy?" one survivor demanded angrily. "These things aren't worth that much money!"

Jack sneered, "Buy it or don't, it's up to you. If you're not buying, get lost!"

Emily chimed in, "This is imported food; you can't buy it anywhere else!"

Most people left in anger, but a few desperate survivors gritted their teeth and bought the items.

An elderly woman walked over, trembling, and pleaded, "Please, my little granddaughter is starving to death, could you give me a discount..."

"No!" Emily refused without hesitation. "Not a penny less!"

The old lady took out all her savings, but it still wasn't enough to buy a single loaf of bread.

"Please, even half a piece will do..." The old man knelt down.

Jack kicked her away: "Get out! Don't get in my way!"

The old woman was kicked to the ground, her head hit a stone, and she bled profusely.

She struggled to stand up, but ultimately collapsed in a pool of blood.

He never got up again.

Jack and Emily looked at the old man's body without a trace of remorse.

"What bad luck," Emily frowned. "To die right in front of our door is bad for our business."

Jack summoned several infected individuals and paid them with food to drag away the corpse.

The live stream chat exploded.

"brute!"

"murderer!"

"Call the police! Call the police!"

"Is this even human?"

But Jack and Emily didn't care at all.

"Stop watching, you sanctimonious hypocrites!" Jack yelled at the camera. "This is reality! In the apocalypse, money talks!"

Emily scoffed, "Call the police? The police are barely able to protect themselves, who cares about useless people like you?"

I watched all of this without feeling anything in my heart.

I was even a little disappointed.

I thought they would keep up the act for longer, but I didn't expect them to reveal their true colors so quickly.

But that's fine too, as it makes it easier for Dr. Franken to see their true nature.

That madman's favorite type of person is this kind of self-righteous, wicked person.

In the evening, Dr. Franken appeared on the live broadcast screen.

"Children, you've worked hard today." The old man smiled kindly. "I saw that you helped many people."

Jack said smugly, "Doctor, we followed your advice and provided food to the survivors. Although we charged a fee, it was reasonable, wasn't it?"

"Of course," Dr. Franken nodded. "You've done a good job. Kind people deserve to be rewarded."

Emily said sweetly, "Doctor, we will continue to help more people. This is to repay your kindness in saving our lives."

"You are all such good children." A familiar glint flashed in the doctor's eyes. "Tomorrow I will assign you an even more important task."

"What mission?" Jack asked curiously.

"Please invite more guests to the shelter," the doctor smiled. "It's too spacious here; it needs more kind people to fill it."

Jack and Emily nodded excitedly.

They had no idea what they had just agreed to.

I turned off the monitor and walked deeper into the air-raid shelter.

There I kept the equipment I brought back from the army: night vision goggles, silencers, explosives, and a sniper rifle.

Tomorrow, Dr. Franken will begin his "harvest plan".

And I should prepare for my final move.

This revenge drama is about to reach its climax.
