Chapter 1
TALIA POV
“Do you dream of the day your mate takes you into his arms and marks you? It has always been my dream, especially if he’s your childhood friend.”
Scott and I had been friends for as long as I could remember. Years ago, he promised to mark me on my nineteenth birthday. Since we are not fated mates, he would have to choose me himself. I’m nothing more than a human girl with wolf traits. I have a strong scent and my eye color changes to orange sometimes, but apart from that there is nothing special about me. I don’t even have a wolf.
I smiled at my reflection in the mirror and applied more red lipstick to my lips. Scott loved the color, just thinking about him made my chest feel warm and light. I packed my wavy hair into a bun, picked up my gown, this made it easy to walk. I could barely contain my happiness. My steps were quick and my fingers tapped nervously against my bag.
I was sure Scott was happy too, he loved me and cared deeply about me.
As I got closer to the guest room where Scott stayed, I slowed down a little. My heart started beating faster and a small smile formed on my lips. I wanted to surprise him.
But when I reached the door, I heard chuckles and laughter from inside the room. My smile faded, my hand stopped halfway to the door.
Who was inside with Scott?
“She’s so silly. How can she believe that you’ll choose her?” a female voice mocked before bursting into laughter.
My fingers tightened around my dress and my stomach twisted slightly.
“She’s not only silly, she’s easy to manipulate. Why would I choose a human girl with no wolf?”
Scott’s deep voice followed, my heart dropped heavily in my chest.
“She’s a pure human girl. I detest humans. If she wasn’t the Alpha’s daughter, I could have taken her as my slave and whipped her till she dies,” Scott chuckled.
My eyes widened and my brows furrowed. My throat tightened painfully and my chest burned. So much hatred, how could he pretend to love me?
My hands trembled slightly as anger and hurt rushed through my body.
I pushed the door open hard, the door swung wide with a loud sound.
“Talia!” Scott quickly sat up, his eyes widened.
My breathing was uneven as I looked at him, then slowly turned to the person beside him. It was Lea, my stepsister.
“I knew you were the only one who could do this,” I murmured, staring straight at her.
Lea leaned back with a smug smile, completely relaxed. “Thank the moon goddess, you're not surprised. I mean, you have the same eyes to see that Scott wasn’t interested in you,” she replied with mock sweetness.
My jaw tightened and I felt my nails dig slightly into my palm.
“T-Talia, don’t get me wrong. You’re a human. You add nothing to my value,” Scott muttered.
“Do you think he's going to choose a human as his mate when his fated mate is alive… isn’t that foolish?” Lea’s lips curved with mock amusement.
My brows pulled together as confusion rushed through my mind. “F-fated mate?” I asked, staring at her.
Lea’s smile widened. “Me. I’m his fated mate.” She rolled up her sleeve and revealed a crescent mark on her arm. The mark looked fresh and dark against her skin. “He marked me.”
My fingers tightened around the door handle as I tried to steady myself. My legs felt weak and I staggered back slightly, my heart pounding painfully against my chest as everything inside me shattered. Scott’s cold voice reached me again. “It’s the truth, Talia. No one would want to mate with a human, especially the one conceived in adultery.”
His words pierced deep into my chest and tears gathered at the corners of my eyes. My throat burned as I struggled to breathe.
“Get out, human, i’m trying to spend time with my mate.” Lea threw herself against Scott, wrapping her arms around him as if I didn’t exist.
I turned around slowly and walked out of the room, dragging my feet across the floor. Every step felt heavy. I had trusted Scott with everything, but this was what he did. He betrayed me with my own sister. My chest tightened painfully as tears blurred my sight.
I staggered out of the palace with tears streaming down my cheeks. If I wasn’t marked today, I would become the laughing stock of the pack, they might even throw me out. But it didn’t matter. My father didn’t care about me, my stepmother and step-sister both hated me. And now the only person I had loved my entire life had betrayed me too.
I kept walking without knowing where I was going, my legs dragging across the ground. Before I realized it, I was standing in the middle of the forest near a deep lake. The night air brushed against my skin as I looked at my reflection in the water. My face looked pale and my eyes were swollen from crying, memories flooded my mind as the insults I had heard over the years echoed again.
Bastard child!
Wolf-less cunt!
Human!
Tears rolled down my cheeks again and my shoulders trembled slightly. I had no option left, no one cared about me. Slowly I crouched beside the lake and placed my hand into the cold water, small ripples spreading across the surface while quiet sobs escaped my throat.
Suddenly a strong scent drifted through the air, my nose twitched as the smell reached me. It was powerful, stronger than anything I had ever sensed before, but my mind was too numb to care. I brushed the feeling aside. Before another thought could stop me, I leaned forward and jumped into the water.

At my birthday party, my husband whispered to his mistress in French that he missed her. Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
