Acid Rain Apocalypse: I Am the Chosen Savior
Angela · Completed · 6.9k Words
Introduction
Chapter 1
In my previous life, I knew in advance that this devastating acid rainstorm was about to strike.
To survive, I used up the last of my dollars to buy a military-grade blast door in an underground doomsday bunker in Oregon and began frantically stockpiling canned food, bottled water, and gas masks. Out of consideration for old friends, I specifically went to warn my girlfriend of many years, Elena, and my best friend, David, to reinforce their apartment and stock up on food.
But how did they treat me?
“Ethan, shouldn’t you see a psychiatrist?” Elena rolled her eyes . “Only lunatics in tinfoil hats would believe in doomsday theories.” David, holding a craft beer, laughed so hard he almost fell over, mocking me as a completely insane “doomsday paranoiac.”
Until a bizarre yellow-green storm swept across the United States. It wasn't water at all, but super acid rain that could corrode everything! Ford pickup trucks, century-old trees, and even pedestrians who didn't have time to take shelter were all dissolved into bloody water amidst the hissing smoke.
Elena and David were trapped in the storm and desperately fled to the outside of my bunker. They frantically pounded on the heavy steel security door, crying out to God and begging me to let them in.
I opened the blast door.
But I never expected that the story of the farmer and the snake would play out in my life.
The moment the hatch opened, the fear on David's face vanished. He shoved me forcefully out the door! Elena followed closely behind, and together they pushed me into the torrential acid rain.
I fell into the acid rain, the strong acid instantly burning through my flesh. The excruciating pain made my screams tear through the night sky. Clinging to the bulletproof glass, I watched helplessly as that despicable couple stood in the absolutely safe bunker.
Elena, holding her iPhone, recorded me as I melted away, a malicious sneer on her lips: "Thanks for your free bunker, loser! An idiot like you, who dares to be kind in the apocalypse, only deserves to stay outside and melt into dust. You can rest easy in hell; David and I will enjoy your supplies!"
In the indescribable pain and the fury of being betrayed, my consciousness completely vanished.
--"call!"
I jumped up from the leather sofa as if I had been electrocuted, gasping for air.
I immediately looked at my hands. No festering sores, no bone. Beneath my flannel shirt, my skin was perfectly intact. Turning to look out the floor-to-ceiling window, the uninspired Los Angeles nightscape remained dazzling, devoid of that yellow-green storm that seemed to dissolve the earth.
I stared intently at the vintage clock on the wall: at this moment, there were still exactly one month and three days until the actual acid rain apocalypse.
I was reborn. God gave me a second chance.
The excruciating pain of being shattered to pieces in my previous life still seemed to throb in my nerves. I took a deep breath, preparing to clear my head, when a chilling sound suddenly came from the kitchen.
"Smack...rip...plop..."
It was a wild, wet, tearing sound, like some extremely hungry North American coyote tearing apart fresh prey.
I tiptoed silently into the shadows of the corridor. However, when I saw the scene in front of the kitchen refrigerator, my pupils contracted sharply.
Elena, the sophisticated girl who usually prides herself on being a vegetarian and screams at the mere mention of carbohydrates, is now kneeling on the floor with her hair disheveled.
She was clutching a box of frozen meat that I had just punctured that afternoon, and she grabbed a handful of it, still covered in ice and oozing blood, and stuffed it into her mouth like crazy!
Her eyes were bloodshot and terrifying as she swallowed large mouthfuls of raw meat, blood dripping from the corners of her mouth onto her silk sundress. Far from feeling disgusted, she displayed an extreme, greedy satisfaction. Hearing my footsteps, her first reaction wasn't to explain, but to clutch the box of raw meat tightly to her chest in terror, as if afraid I would snatch her food away.
His mentally deranged state, caused by severe famine, made everything clear to me instantly.
In my previous life, although David and Elena took my bunker, given their useless nature—they couldn't even be bothered to use a microwave—how could they possibly have properly allocated those five years' worth of military rations? They were definitely trapped in that reinforced concrete box after their initial extravagance, torturing each other and eventually starving to death.
Looking at this woman who was willing to risk her life for a bite of raw meat, I let out an extremely cold sneer.
As expected, the wicked will get their just desserts.
Elena, carrying with her the desperate memories of starving to death in her previous life, was reborn.
