Amy Cullen · Ongoing · 87.2k Words
Introduction
"Breathe." My body, as if under his command, did as he said
He gently pressed the wet cloth on the corner of my lips, and heat bloomed where he touched, my fingernails digging into his shoulder.
He ran the wet cloth over the swell of my breast, and his eyes turned darker.
My lips parted. He pulled away, curling his fingers into fists, and his neck turned red.
My lower stomach turned into knots.
The tension in the air started to steal my breath, and the room felt extremely hot. The urge to do something almost paralysed me.
Rosette, the red-haired human Princess of the mortal island, rejected her arranged marriage with the Alpha Prince but soon she was framed to kill her former fiancé. While running away, Xen the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack saved her. He said she is his mate, but Rosette only wanted to run away to find her witch's mom.
Xen proposed to let Rosette pretend to be his wife for three months and then he will let her go. Rosette agreed. But when the world is involved in the immortal crisis, how will they protect themselves from vampires, witches or Lycans? And will they find the true love hidden in each other’s hearts?
Chapter 1
Immora Islands is a fantasy island far from what we know as the human world.
Here the creatures of the night (lycans and vampires), forest (werewolves and witches), water (sirens and mermaids), and sky (fairies) stay together.
Vampires live in Dragonstone. Werewolves live in Lunar Valley. Witches in Witches' Hollow Faires live in the centre of the islands, on Faemound, the highest mountain. Lycan lives behind the Faemound, in a dark forest that no one can enter due to dark magic.
The mortal landing (the only human dwelling who is aware of this supernatural island) is attached to this island a few miles from the sea - a small Kingdom that has been friends with Witches for a thousand years.
For centuries, there have been constant conflicts between several major races, among which the Lycans began to expand and invade the territories of other races due to their powerful strength. Lycans are difficult to kill, and only weapons made of silver can completely destroy them.
Vampires and werewolves are desperate for silver because Lycans have infiltrated the woodlands of the Lunar Valley and are about to overrun the city.
But the werewolves have run out of silver and can only get it from human territory.
To get more silver, the werewolf Alpha King decide to make an alliance with the Human King. Human Princess Rosette was arranged to marry the Alpha Prince.
Rosette
"So you're literally throwing me to the wolves." I tried to remain calm, not wanting to appear insane or deranged in front of my half-brother, Prince Eddard, whom I despise to the core of my being. With his infamous blank expression, my father, King Henry of the House Percivell and ruler of the Green Hills, looked past my distress. Why I thought my father would be different this time is beyond my logical comprehension. I hold my shuddering breath.
"I reject this alliance," I insisted.
"You are in no position to refuse anything," Edelinne said. I returned my gaze to my father, hoping for a response. But there's something peculiar about parent-child relationships. Regardless of how much your parents have hurt you, you still wish for a different outcome. No matter how much your rational mind tells you that this hope is futile, still hope that once they will look at you differently and that they will understand this once.
"I've given you every opportunity I could, but you've turned down every suitor; this cannot go on indefinitely," my father said loudly in court.
"This is your last chance, dear sister; after this, no one will probably marry you," Eddard added.
"I don't care," I said as I looked at him sitting below the throne, closer to my father. The crown prince's position A position as firstborn should have been mine, but the rules changed the moment my brother was born.
"You should care; this alliance with the wolf is important, and you are marrying a prince." He hissed.
"It's not like I'm marrying you to some commoner," my father says, as if he doesn't understand my desire not to marry.
Marrying an ordinary man would have been more appropriate given that I am standing in the center of this courtroom as an ordinary subject, expecting to obey my father's decree. I am his firstborn, but I am not more important to him than his cupbearer.
"And may I ask why this is important?" I inquired. "It's irrelevant to you." He said
"Irrelevant to me?" I scoffed. "I'm the one you're marrying off to some wolf!"
My half brother sighed exaggeratedly as he rolled his dark gray eyes. Like my father, he has dark gray eyes. Every day, he looks more and more like him, with his smooth celestial jaw and matching beard, whereas I... I suppose I resemble my mother. I don't remember how she used to look, but I believe that's why he despises me so much—because I resemble the woman who betrayed him.
"Get off your high horses; he's a prince, and you're going to be his princess and future queen; after what you've done with your other suitors, I think you're getting more than you deserve," Eddard says.
"Oh, shut it!" I snapped, wondering why he was even there. This has absolutely nothing to do with him.
"You should respect your brother because he is the future king of this kingdom!"
"And even if I don't," I told the Queen.
"Enough!" My father scowled. "You will marry the Wolf Prince; that concludes this discussion!"
"We're leaving tomorrow for the Lunar Valley," he announced.
I opened my mouth to say no.
"If you refuse, you will be declared a traitor for going against the king's command." Every time your parents disappoint you, it fills you with new astonishment. This was not the first time my father had proposed marriage to me. to get rid of me right away, but he had done it this time, and I felt myself go numb, as if there was no hope. I was once again a fool. I noticed my brother's and stepmother's smug expressions. I nodded and inhaled deeply.
"Fine, you're aware of my condition."
"Send word to the Wolf prince that if he can defeat me in combat, I will marry him," I declared.
"You can't beat a wolf," my brother chuckled.
"Try me," I said, and before my father could respond, I curtsied. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll take my leave," I said as I walked away without looking back at my father.
Three days later in Lunar Valley
So here I was trying to break free from my bounds, from this alliance—I wanted nothing of it, therefore it must end, but as I knew, my father never told the Alpha King Irving, The King of the Lunar Valley, that I had challenged his son to a duel. That he must defeat me to secure this alliance.
"Your Highness, you can’t go in." Nora, the helper that was appointed by the wolves to be by my side, came running towards me.
She had been trying her best to stop me, but I stormed towards the court hall; it was nothing but an ancient structure made of wood, stones, and mountain rocks. Where the Alpha King lives with his family and has a hall where he holds court. Right now, all the elders are sitting inside there and making decisions about my life.
"Your Highness!"
I climb the steps quickly to the stairs, and two guards standing there block my way.
"I am Princess Rosette; let me pass." I demanded.
"Apologies, your highness, but you can’t be let in." One of the guards said he sounded polite, but his body language suggested otherwise.
"And by whose order are you daring to stop me?" Looking around, I curled my fist in my dress; they were unarmed. Maybe I can... But then I took a step back, realizing that those bulging muscles weren't for nothing. My confidence started to waver. No, I won’t be bound. No matter what happens, this won’t be something that binds me. I will either die in the tournament or I will be free. Whatever way it goes, I clutch my jaw.
"Let me in; it is an order," I commanded.
"Your order means nothing," one of the guards said with a smug smile.
Have they ever? I scoffed.
"Your highness," Nora was not giving up. She looked warily at the guards.
"I am not leaving until you let me in."
"Then wait," said the arrogant jerk. Even the guards here are uncivilized fools.
"Be careful how you speak to her." A strong, demanding male voice stopped everyone in their tracks, and the guards looked behind me with a sense of fear and awe at the same time.
