Introduction

Homeschooled, sheltered, and entirely unprepared for the cruelty of high school, Maya Jackson has one goal: keep her head down, graduate early, and disappear.

Enter Ajax Richmond.

He’s the school’s resident mystery—an MMA fighter with deep scars and zero desire for drama. Forced back to finish his senior year, Ajax just wants to fly under the radar. But when a reluctant study partnership forces him into Maya’s orbit, his iron-clad walls begin to crumble. She’s quiet, sharp, and carries a haunting loneliness that mirrors his own.

What starts as a forced alliance quickly becomes a brutal, beautiful necessity. But between Ajax’s dangerous world and the ghosts of Maya’s past, loving each other might be the ultimate test of survival. When tragedy strikes, will they fight for their future, or let their broken worlds tear them apart?

Forever Yours is an emotional, slow-burn romance packed with raw angst, redemption, and a love worth fighting for. Perfect for fans of protective heroes and fierce, emotional healing.

Chapter 1

Maya Jackson held her textbooks so tightly against her chest that the cardboard edges dug painfully through her sweater. Her heart wasn't just beating; it was staging a violent coup against her ribcage. The rhythm was erratic, loud, and thoroughly alarming. Was it normal? she wondered, staring blankly at the institutional green paint of the hallway walls. Or is this the literal onset of a teenage heart attack?

Honestly, a medical emergency didn't sound half bad compared to the alternative.

The headlines practically wrote themselves. Maya Jackson, 17, Dies in High School Hallway Due to Acute Cowardice.

It was exactly the kind of morbid, tragic publicity her mother would weaponize to revive her completely nonexistent acting career. If the local news vans showed up, Helena Jackson would undoubtedly drape herself across the school steps, weeping elegantly for the cameras while ensuring the lighting caught her good side. If anyone asked, Helena would tearfully declare that her Hollywood dreams had been cut short solely because she chose the noble, selfless path of motherhood.

Maya rolled her eyes so hard she saw stars. Such a noble sacrifice.

In reality, Helena’s career had crashed and burned because she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. After years of brutal rejections, her mother had finally decided to sleep with a prominent producer to secure a leading role. Instead of an Oscar, she got a positive pregnancy test. To her credit, Helena had played her cards with calculated precision, spinning the accidental pregnancy into a marriage certificate. Of course, the producer in question—Maya’s lovely father—proceeded to cheat on her with literally anything that possessed two legs and a pulse, but the alimony potential kept the marriage afloat in a state of toxic, perpetual warfare.

Maya shook her head violently, trying to clear the mental static. Stop it, she scolded herself. This moment is supposed to be about your own impending doom, not your psychotic parents.

She was the one currently suffocating in the hallway of Riverton High.

In hindsight, her desperate insistence on attending a public school felt less like a stroke of genius and more like a slow-motion disaster. At the time, her logic had seemed flawless: public school kids were bound to be less elitist and cruel than the trust-fund brats at private academies. More importantly, in a sea of hundreds of ordinary teenagers, no one would give a damn who her father was.

She had gone to extreme lengths to scrub her digital footprint and keep her family background a total secret. In this building, she was blissfully anonymous. The only reason she had landed on the resident mean girls' radar at all, according to her live-in Nanny, was a toxic cocktail of petty jealousy. Maya was a brilliant Black girl who possessed more innate class in her pinky finger than those girls could buy with their parents' unlimited credit cards. That, and the fact that Maya was fast-tracking her life.

As of exactly one hour ago, her existence had become infinitely more complicated. Instead of navigating the predictable waters of her second junior semester, Maya had tested out of the curriculum entirely. She had skipped a whole year ahead, landing square in the final semester of senior year.

I should be thrilled, she thought, clutching her aching stomach as a phantom ulcer flared to life. I’m finishing early. I’m going to college early. I’m escaping these teenage freaks a whole year ahead of schedule.

But the terrifying reality was that her remaining months here were about to become absolutely unbearable. The workload was a mountain, the social dynamics were a minefield, and she was currently frozen outside her first-period classroom like a total coward.

She should have stayed home. She should have fought harder for online homeschooling. But staying home meant spending more hours inside that echoing, miserable mansion with her parents' toxic energy. She was trapped. She had no choice but to walk through that door. She was already five minutes late, hovering in the corridor like a ghost.

"Buck up, Maya Jackson," she muttered under her breath, trying to summon a shred of dignity.

"And I thought I was nervous."

The deep, rumbling baritone vibrated right behind her left shoulder. Maya jumped so violently that her fingers lost their grip entirely. Oh, great, just take my actual heart out of my chest why don't you!

Her heavy textbooks slipped from her hands, hitting the polished linoleum floor with a massive, echoing thud that reverberated all the way down the empty hallway. Crimson heat rushed to her face as she instantly dropped to her knees, scrambling to gather the loose papers and heavy binders.

Before she could scoop up her AP English lit book, a pair of knees clad in heavily ripped black denim lowered into her field of vision. Large, heavily tanned hands effortlessly gathered the rest of her fallen belongings, moving with a calm deliberation that contrasted sharply with her frantic energy. He reached out, his fingers brushing against hers as he took the remaining books straight from her hands.

Holding the massive stack easily in one hand, he gripped her forearm with the other and pulled her upward. His hand was massive, his grip firm but surprisingly careful. Against his thick, muscular wrist, her own dark arm looked like a fragile, weak twig.

"Come on," he grumbled, his voice low and gravelly. "Let's go before I change my mind."

He let go of her arm, but before Maya could even process the interaction, he slid his fingers down to clasp her hand securely. Without waiting for her consent, he turned and marched toward the classroom door, pulling her along in his wake like a small dinghy caught in the current of a massive battleship.

He threw the door open, dragging her right into the lion's den.

"You're late!" Mr. Lewis shouted, his voice cutting through the morning drone of the classroom as they crossed the threshold.

Maya instinctively tried to halt, her mouth opening to offer a frantic, highly detailed apology about scheduling errors. But the guy didn't even pause. He gave her hand a firm, uncompromising tug, silently steering her straight toward the back row of the classroom. He deposited her heavy books onto the surface of an empty desk, then immediately claimed the seat right next to it.

Keeping her chin tucked firmly against her chest, Maya slid into her chair. She didn't need to look up to know that thirty pairs of eyes were burning holes into her. She could feel the collective weight of their stares tracking her like heat-seeking lasers.

Oh, this is bad. This is so incredibly bad.

Anxiety began to twitch in her fingers, a familiar, icy tremors starting to take hold.

Mr. Lewis cleared his throat loudly from the front of the room, adjusting his glasses as he leveled a severe look across the desks. "Miss Jackson, do yourself a huge favor and stay far away from Mr. Richmond. He is nothing but absolute trouble... and the only nineteen-year-old left in this school."

Maya’s eyebrows shot upward in genuine shock. Wait, what? The warning felt incredibly personal and totally unprompted for a first day.

The classroom instantly erupted into a chorus of cruel, mocking laughter. Maya refused to lift her head, but she tilted her gaze just enough to look at 'Mr. Richmond' from beneath the protective shadow of her eyelashes.

His massive fist was clenched so tightly on the faux-wood desk that his knuckles were stark white. A sharp, rhythmic muscle twitched violently in his jawline.

Is he really nineteen? Maya thought, her mind racing. He was imposing, sure, but his face possessed a sharp, rugged edge that looked more like a hardened young adult than a high school kid who had failed a few grades.

Suddenly, his head snapped toward her. Maya instantly whipped her eyes back to her own desk, shrinking as far down into her seat as humanly possible. The tension radiating off him was palpable, thick enough to cut with a knife. Panic flared anew in her chest. Was he glaring at me? Why? I’m not the one who just insulted him in front of the entire class!

The next forty minutes dragged by in agonizing, agonizing silence. Maya sat perfectly rigid, listening to the drone of Mr. Lewis's lecture while the massive presence of Ajax Richmond loomed beside her, a ticking time bomb clad in black.

One Night. One Mistake. One Lifetime of Consequences.

I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.

My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.

But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.

In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.

"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.

"Who the fuck is Jason?"

My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.

I ran away for my life!

But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!

They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.

Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”

There is no other choice for me but to chose this cage. My body also betrays me, craving the beast who ruined me.

"You want my forgiveness?" he asked, my voice dropping to a dangerous timbre.

Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.

"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.

My breathing accelerated, small sounds escaping my throat as he explored my body. His touches were both punishment and pleasure, drawing shudders from me that I thought he felt reverberating through his own body.

My nightgown had ridden up, his hands discovering more of mine with each caress. We were both lost in sensation, rational thought receding with each passing second...

Three years ago, to fulfill the wish of his grandmother, I was forced to marry Derek Wells, the second son of the family that had adopted me for ten years. He didn't love me, but I had secretly loved him all along.
