He Erased Me, Not Our Daughter
Serena Vale · Completed · 211.9k Words
Introduction
Instead, Adrian stood silent while his powerful family accused her of leaking pediatric records, stripped her of her work, and pushed her out of the marriage that should have protected her. Maya left with one secret and one rule: no one from the Cross family would ever get quiet access to her child.
Five years later, Maya returns as the founder of ValeCare and the mother of Lily, the daughter Adrian never knew existed. She did not come back to be claimed. She came back with rules, boundaries, and a life built far away from the Cross name.
But when Adrian sees Lily, the truth breaks open. His regret is immediate, but Maya refuses to let guilt become possession. As old accusations resurface and the Cross family reaches for Lily through schools, headlines, and family pressure, Maya must protect her daughter while forcing Adrian to face the truth he once refused to defend.
Can a man who erased his pregnant wife ever earn the right to stand beside her again?
Chapter 1
The night I came to tell my husband I was pregnant, he put my face on a ballroom screen and called me a criminal.
The pregnancy test was folded in my satin clutch, still warm from my palm. I had checked it three times before leaving the apartment. Two pink lines. Thin, impossible, real.
I had imagined telling Adrian after his announcement.
That was what he had promised me.
"Tonight, people will remember who built the pediatric safety program," he had said that morning, fastening the diamond bracelet around my wrist. "No more standing in the shadows, Maya."
So I believed him.
I wore the blue dress he liked. I let him place his hand at my waist when we entered the Cross Foundation gala. I let the cameras catch us together under the white roses and gold lights. For once, I did not feel like the hidden wife who did the work while the Cross family took the applause.
For once, I thought Adrian was going to choose me where everyone could see.
Then the screen behind the stage went black.
My wedding portrait appeared first.
For one foolish second, my heart lifted.
Then the photo changed.
It was a security still of me outside the records room.
Under it, white letters burned across the screen:
MAYA VALE-CROSS RESPONSIBLE FOR PEDIATRIC DATA LEAK
The ballroom went silent.
I stopped breathing.
Another slide appeared. Children's initials. Dates. A red stamp:
INTERNAL BREACH
"No," I said.
Adrian's hand fell from my waist.
That was the first thing everyone saw. Not my shock. Not my fear. My husband's hand leaving me like I had become contagious.
I turned to him. "Tell them this is wrong."
His face closed.
I knew that face. I had seen it across board tables and hospital corridors. It meant he had already decided what could be sacrificed.
Tonight, it was me.
A third slide appeared.
INTERIM SAFETY DIRECTOR: CELESTE WYNN
Celeste stepped onto the stage in a silver dress I had never seen before and a smile I knew too well. She had been at Cross for six months. Somehow, she already stood under my project logo with my job in her hands.
The room understood before I did.
They had accused me and replaced me.
"Cross Foundation asks that no one photograph the confidential information shown tonight," Celeste said into the microphone, as if half the guests were not already holding up phones. "We are taking immediate action after Mrs. Cross's breach endangered vulnerable children."
Mrs. Cross.
She used my married name like a knife.
I moved toward the stage.
Adrian caught my wrist. "Maya. Not here."
I stared at him.
"They put my face on a screen here."
His grip tightened once. Then he let go.
The cameras were watching.
I walked into the center aisle. My knees wanted to shake. I did not let them.
"I did not leak those records," I said. My voice carried farther than I expected. "I did not sell them. I did not authorize anyone to use my account. And if Cross cared about children, it would not parade even redacted patient files at a donor gala."
For one clean second, the room listened.
Then Helena Cross rose from the front table.
Adrian's mother did not hurry. Women like Helena never hurried. She wore pearls, navy silk, and the calm of someone who had already decided the ending.
"Enough," she said. "You are embarrassing my son."
My son.
Not your husband.
Not the man who knew every late night I spent building the program they were now stealing.
Adrian stepped toward her.
Not me.
Her.
The room saw it. The reporters saw it. Celeste saw it and smiled.
My hand closed around my clutch. The pregnancy test pressed against my fingers.
I had come here to give Adrian a child.
He had just given his mother my public ruin.
"Helena," I said, "ask your son whether I did it."
She looked me over, slow and cold. "My son has spent years protecting you from your own ambition. Tonight he is protecting the family from you."
The words hit exactly where she aimed them.
Family.
My eyes burned, but I did not cry. If I cried, she would make that part of the show too.
"Do not talk to me about family," I said.
Helena's mouth curved. "Family is blood, dear. You are paperwork."
I slapped her.
The sound cracked through the ballroom.
Gasps burst from every table. A glass shattered somewhere behind me. Helena's head turned with the force of it, one pearl earring swinging against her neck.
For one second, I felt clean.
Then Adrian moved.
He went to his mother.
He did not ask if I was all right. He did not ask why I had finally broken. He touched Helena's arm and looked at me like I was the danger in the room.
There it was.
The public choice.
The one I had waited for all night.
He had chosen. Just not me.
Celeste came down from the stage with a black folder against her chest.
"For everyone's safety," she said, "we need you to step away from the gala."
"Everyone's safety," I repeated.
Her eyes flicked to the reporters. "And for the children."
The children.
My stomach tightened before I could stop it.
Inside my clutch, the pregnancy test felt suddenly heavier than paper. It felt like a heartbeat I had no right to risk.
Helena touched her cheek and smiled at me.
"This is why we prepared the documents," she said. "A woman who cannot control herself cannot be trusted with children."
The room murmured.
That was the deeper cut. Not the accusation. Not the job. That sentence. She had taken the one secret I had come to celebrate and turned motherhood itself into a weapon, without even knowing she had done it.
I almost opened the clutch.
I almost pulled out the test and threw the truth at all of them.
Look. I am carrying a Cross child.
Look what you are doing to the mother of your grandchild.
But Adrian was still beside Helena. Celeste was still holding my replacement in a black folder. Reporters were still filming. And for the first time that night, I understood something colder than heartbreak.
If they knew about the baby now, the baby would not save me.
The baby would become the next thing they tried to control.
Celeste opened the folder.
The first page was not an investigation notice.
It was a statement of responsibility.
Below it sat a separation agreement with my name already typed beside Adrian's.
The last page was worse:
Maya Vale-Cross voluntarily steps down from all child-safety initiatives effective immediately.
Voluntarily.
They had written my surrender before I even knew there was a war.
Adrian finally said my name. "Maya."
I looked at him one last time, waiting for one word that cost him something.
He gave me none.
So I stopped waiting.
I closed my clutch around the pregnancy test.
They wanted my name, my work, my home, and my silence.
They did not know there was one part of me they had not found yet.
And if the child inside me was real, Adrian Cross would never be allowed to erase that too.

I shivered.
Alyssa Reynolds found herself in a situation, while returning home from work, and she had three choices:
Simply walk away and forget that you ever heard the sound of wailing infants.
Call the police and inform them about the innocent wails.

Being a kindhearted soul and a sucker for babies, she found herself choosing the third option, finding the two little lives.
Two little lives that changed her whole life, her love life included. Her life now revolved around the babies as diapers, vomit and shit seemed to surround her.

He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
I didn't tell him to stop.
Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.

Before she could formulate a witty remark, Matteo threw her down. She landed hard on her back atop his dining room table. She tried to sit up when she noticed what he was doing. His hands were working on his belt. It came free of his pants with a violent yank. She collapsed back on her elbows, her mouth gaping open at the display. His face was a mask of sheer determination, his eyes were a dark gold swimming with heat and desire. His hands wrapped around her thighs and pulled her to the edge of the table. He glided his fingers up her thighs and hooked several around the inside of her panties. His knuckles brushed her dripping sex.
“You’re soaking wet, Genevieve. Tell me, was it me that made you this way or him?” his voice told her to be careful with her answer. His knuckles slid down through her folds and she threw her head back as she moaned. “Weakness?”
