Introduction
Taylor Hastings—the fierce, scholarship student who clawed her way to becoming head cheerleader—and Rowan Hayes, the hockey captain who treated her like the center of his universe.
They were campus royalty.
Until the video leaked.
One private night.
One humiliating betrayal.
And suddenly Taylor goes from adored to destroyed overnight.
Rowan swears it was an accident.
But Taylor knows the truth after hearing the whispers from his teammates… the jokes about the bet… the countdown they made over how long it would take him to get her into bed.
Their relationship was never love.
It was a game he won.
So Taylor decides to play one of her own.
Her target?
Hunter D’laurentis—the ruthless bad boy captain of Frostwood hockey and Rowan’s biggest rival.
Hunter wants one thing: the championship that could finally free him from his father’s suffocating control.
Taylor wants revenge brutal enough to make Rowan unravel before the biggest season of his life.
Fake dating should’ve been simple.
A few staged kisses.
A few jealous headlines.
A few public appearances designed to destroy a rival captain’s focus before the championship game.
But Hunter D’laurentis touches her like she’s something worth protecting instead of ruining.
And when the line between fake and real disappears beneath flashing cameras, screaming crowds, and bruised hearts, Taylor realizes revenge was never the dangerous part.
Falling for her rival was.
Chapter 1
TAYLOR’S POINT OF VIEW.
If you had the chance to get revenge on the rich, pompous prick who ruined your entire senior year, would you take it?
My life was perfect.
I was the first and only scholarship student at Blackridge University; however, I worked my way up and became head cheerleader. The entire school fawned over me; boys wanted a shot with girls, and girls either wanted to kill me or be me.
I was on top of the world.
As if that wasn’t perfect enough, I had the captain of Blackridge Bears on my arm. Two weeks before, he wove his way into my life and managed to sweep me off my feet.
I fell hard and fast. I offered every one of my secrets to him, and he told the entire school I was his.
I should have known it was too good to be true.
Yesterday, I finally did it.
I let him take my virginity. He never asked me for sex, and I thought it was weird. The girls always talked about how he always wanted it with the girls he dated before me, so I worried he didn’t find me attractive enough.
After suffering minor burns and cuts from the hot wax shave I had to endure, I pulled on that ridiculous sexy bunny costume he was rumored to love, and snuck into his room in his parents’ mansion.
He was on his bed, lazily clicking away on his phone when I found him. The moment I walked in, his eyes widened, the blue hue then darkened with what I hoped to be arousal as he moved towards me.
“This is…”
“I know; I….I wanted it to be a surprise.” I whispered, trying my hardest not to bolt from the surge of embarrassment that rushed through me. My cheeks were a deep shade of red when he grabbed my waist, then pulled me over to him so my front collided with his.
He leaned lower, then inhaled the corner of my neck before releasing a deep, throaty sigh.
“You smell like heaven.” He whispered, hands caressing my corseted waist, climbing high and higher until they stopped at my cleavage. I hated my curvy figure; the double DDs of my breasts and the way everyone believed I came this far by sleeping around.
However, Rowan Hunt, my boyfriend, never ceased to let me know how perfect he thought I was.
He undid the knots that kept the corset together slowly, the move painfully slow as each bind loosened, and fell off my body untill finally, it came apart.
I grabbed my breasts out of reflex when the corset fell to the floor, my eyes looked everywhere but into his.
“I….you should know this, Rowan.” I bit my lower lip hard before I added, “I’ve never done this before..”
His hands around the waistband of my shirt stopped.
“You’re a virgin?” I nodded, waiting for him to kick me out of here or say something mean. I was head cheerleader… everyone already slammed the slut shaming allegations on me because of my body and my role.
Knowing I was a virgin could turn him off, right?
“I…we have to make this special for you.” He pulled away from me. And that night was the most special I’d ever experienced.
Rowan pressed a kiss to my shoulder a couple of hours after, in the early hours of dawn.
“I’ll see you later, babe.” He whispered, his sunglasses-clad eyes staring back at me, a small smile on his lips. Everything felt truly perfect as I pressed my lips against his own, before I got out of his car, and waved him away.
About four hours later, it was past ten in the morning, and I headed for cheerleading practice. That was when everything came crashing down.
“Hey girl!” My best friend, Hailey, ran up to me, a bright smile on her lips as she hopped out of her pink, bedazzled Ferrari.
“Hey!” I waved back at her while trying my hardest to pretend everyone else didn’t stare at me as I walked into school with a period stain on my skirt.
“Look…. it's her, Taylor Hastings.” I heard someone whisper just as they passed by. Their noses were buried in their phones, their eyes wide with what looked like fascination and disgust.
“What’s up with that?” Hailey hissed at them while they walked off, her stink eye burning holes into their backs just before she turned to me again. “Ignore them…it’s Blackridge; something always happens.”
I wished I could; I really wanted to, but yet another person walked past me with that same stare, his nose to his phone before he shook his head with what looked like shame.
“What the hell is going on?!” I couldn’t take it anymore. Just then, three guys jogged up to us; a sick smile on each of their faces when they spotted me.
“Hey, Taylor!” One of them clapped, his cap turned sideways. “I didn’t know you were that flexible!”
“Yeah!” The other cackled. “Could you bust that more later in practice? I would really like to see it in action.”
“The angle is amazing though…you’d have a bright future in that department.” The third guy jogged along with the rest, the sound of their laughter echoing off the parking lot.
My heart swelled with something too close to tension as I noticed it now.
Everyone was staring at me. Their faces either turned to their phones or me. Hailey’s and my phones beeped all of a sudden, making us share a look before I pulled mine out.
For some reason, it felt like an impending doom had struck. I clicked the notification, my palms suddenly wet with sweat as a chilling cold swept past me.
My eyes widened at the sight before me….it was… Rowan and me; from last night.
The sound of my moans and grunts echoed through the speakers as the live video of what happened between us last night played.
“Oh, my God!” Hayley gasped, her eyes as wide as mine as we watched.
“You watched it now, huh?!” One of those three guys from Waller chucked again. “Let me know if you want to be the next Mia Khalifa! I’ve got a contact…you look like her too!”
“Shut the hell up!” Hailey retorted; I couldn’t bring myself to utter a word…not right now. Not when it felt like my world had crashed.
The view count on the video rose higher and higher by the minute, going past one million views. It’s been up for five hours… just in time for when Rowan and I finished.
The feeling of pain and heartbeat dulled, and melts away into a different one…
Rage.
Turning off my phone, I clutched it tightly and marched to the one spot I knew he would be.
“Taylor!” Haikey called behind me, but I didn’t care. I racked the boys' locker room in record time. The sound of deep, male laughter bounced off the walls and through the door.
Just when I was about to push it open, I heard something else.
“How did you manage to get into her pants in such record time?” One of them asked, his voice throaty with laughter.
“Yeah, the bet was set for exactly three weeks;
You fucked her in two. Is she that easy?” I waited for him to say something, anything in my defense.
My heart swelled with a tiny twinge of hope that I clung to.
My mind led with the memories of the time we had. Our relationship lasted just two weeks, but it was enough for me to fall hopelessly in love.
I waited for the sweet words he would always say to me… but they never came.
“I mean…it’s me.” Rowan finally spoke, and my heart sank even deeper until it felt like it hit the floor. My knees nearly gave out underneath me, and I felt Hailey wrap her hands around my shoulders to keep me up.
“Do you want us to go?” she whispered, but I shook my head. I couldn’t utter a word, not with the tightening in my tongue.
“Taylor is like every other foolish small-town girl.” Rowan continued. “She might act like the hottest, smartest girl around, but I knew, deep down, she was very innocent.
All I needed to do was show her some love and affection, and it was enough.
She cracked like an egg without any pressure.” And if that wasn’t bad enough, he added, “At least she’s tight. Seriously, that girl could use a career in porn.”
That’s when I had it.
I pushed the door open, my tears rolling free now as I barged in. The entire locker room was filled with naked men who either just walked out of the shower or were about to get dressed, but I didn’t care.
My face stopped on him; Rowan Hunt, my boyfriend. At first, he looked surprised; then it melted into something smug.
“Oh, look who decided to join the party!” He said like it was some announcement. “That too, while everyone is naked….you want each of us to take a turn, or what?”
“How could you?!” I whispered, my heart bleeding with the force of my pain. “You said you loved me… after what we shared, after last night? You know everything there is to know about me.
I gave myself to you last night, and you filmed it?
Without my consent….and you shared it with the entire school?
Really?”
“Oh, please, Taylor.” He rolled his eyes with a dismissive wave of the hand. “You can’t possibly think someone like me would want to be with you?
You were a bet; nothing more.
I mean, look at me, and you. My clothes are designer; yours are from the Salvation Army, and whatever your orphans foundation can manage to save for people like you.
It was fun while it lasted, and you’re very tight too. But that’s all there is to this….now leave, before I decide to take this an extra mile.”
My tears blinded my vision as I stared around. Everyone watched me with a smug expression, the entire locker room smelled of sweat, aftershave, and the sick joy on their faces. My hands clenched into fists.
“I... you filmed me without my consent, you know?” I said after biting the inside of my cheek. “I could report it…”
At first, there was radio silence until the guys started laughing again.
“Oh, Taylor…please, by all means, go ahead.” Rowan clapped. “My father is the governor of the state, and my mother runs the board in this school that determines your scholarship.
You’d be buried before you can even get a report out.”
He’s right…and I hate that he is. My hands clenched even harder untill it felt like I drew blood. The back of my throat burned with the force of my impending sobs as I watched them laugh.
Before I could stop myself, my clenched hand drove right into his nose.
“You’re a sick bastard, Rowan Hunt!” I cried, huffing as Hailey tried to pull me away. “I fucking hate you!”
“Get the hell out of my locker room!”
“Fuck you!”
“You already did, Taylor Hastings….”

.
"I’m keeping her."
"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
"Put her down," I try to command, panic threading through my thoughts. "You’ll hurt her."
"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."
Taste of Fate: The Vampire King's Human Mate
He reached for the back of my head and pulled me up just enough to reach my neck. When his fangs slid into me, the pain was instant, electric. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. My hands found his shoulders, clawing for something to hold. My legs kicked. Tears streamed down my cheeks.
He moaned against my throat as he drank, and the sound was devastating.
