Newbie's Quest: Awaiting Challenge
Adrian Walker · Ongoing · 85.8k Words
Introduction
Bound to an Infinite Simulation System, Ethan, who was forced to replay the novice level a thousand times, declares:
"I have conquered the game and am in good spirits. Now, I'm going to wipe you all out."
From then on, players of the White Tower often see a newbie carrying a huge hammer, pioneering a destructive path through the levels.
The sky clears, the rain stops, and you think you're up to the challenge again.
Play is play, fun is fun, but don't joke with the God Ethan.
Years later, standing at the pinnacle of the White Tower, Ethan reflects.
He became a god, and also somewhat insane.
Chapter 1
"Brother, come play with me."
For the 999th time.
This is the 999th time Ethan Walker has heard this phrase.
Ethan's gaze lowers to a little girl in red, only reaching his waist, looking up with a stiff smile.
The girl is cloaked in a red cape, her hat covering her head, with two braided pigtails hanging beside her ears, small leather shoes, white socks, and a bamboo basket slung over her right arm. Aside from her unusually pale complexion, she looks no different from a normal child.
But Ethan knows that in fifteen minutes, this little girl's face will split into four parts like a malevolently blooming flower, each petal's edge lined with sharp teeth, spitting out a long, barbed appendage from the center, like a stamen or a tongue!
She has a name, Little Red Riding Hood.
As the final boss of this level, she has been masquerading as a harmless NPC since the game's onset, lurking beside players, aiding in decrypting clues and providing hints.
Only when the last scene, "Grandmother's Cottage," appears does she reveal her true form, tearing off the facade and devouring the players down to the last bone!
If it were an ordinary player, they would be utterly deceived by her seemingly innocent appearance. At the moment of reaching the cottage, seeing the lovely little girl transform into a monstrous man-eating plant would send nine out of ten players fleeing in terror.
But Ethan, who has cleared the level 999 times, fears nothing.
Not only is he fearless, he's even a bit numb.
"Big sis," Ethan laments, teary-eyed, "You've killed me 142 times, and I've killed you 857 times. Rounding off, we're even. Can you just let me pass to the next level?"
Little Red Riding Hood blinks her round, dewy eyes.
"What are you saying, brother? I don't understand."
"…"
This foolish NPC isn't equipped with an additional voice pack. If the player says a bit more than usual, she can't parse it and will only respond with "I don't know."
Ethan sighs deeply, resignedly walking a few steps to his right.
His current location is the player's revival point, also the game's starting point. Here, new players engage in dialogue with NPC Little Red Riding Hood, who guides them to receive a weapon.
To Ethan's right is a storage locker, also known as the "weapon rack."
The locker is divided into an upper and lower section, covered with transparent glass on the top and solid wooden doors below. It appears ordinary but holds vast potential.
Wolf-tooth clubs, iron axes, scythes as tall as a person...everything one could need.
In total, there are ten distinct weapons, each of which Ethan has tried.
He picks up the most inconspicuous inflatable hammer from the corner.
This inflatable hammer, about 1.5 meters long, is decorated in a pink color beloved by strong men, with two symmetric star symbols on the hammerhead, and emits a playful squeaking sound when struck.
A child's toy no normal player would choose.
Ethan has his reasons for selecting it after nearly 900 clears. The inflatable hammer is light and easy to wield, and crucially, the handle's bottom cap opens to reveal buttons for "normal" and "enhanced" modes.
This was a secret Ethan discovered in his 458th game.
However, switching modes takes three seconds, a period which must be carefully calculated during battle. The hammer, heavy as a thousand pounds in enhanced mode, only shows its true power when swung down with both hands, or else it risks throwing out the user's back.
This was a combat technique Ethan mastered after injuring his back three hundred times.
Weapon in hand, the player is ready.
Little Red Riding Hood trots over in her leather shoes.
"Hello, strange big brother, can you help me? I'm Red from the neighboring Lucky District. My mother asked me to visit my grandmother in the Happy District. I…"
Her voice suddenly turns dull because Ethan has pinched her nose.
And her eyes.
And her mouth.
Then he rests his hands behind him.
"Why can't I skip the story?"
Little Red Riding Hood: …
The NPC suspiciously glitches before continuing to relay the story's background.
Ethan idly picks at his hands.
There's no helping it; after hundreds of trials, he knows NPC dialogues can't be skipped, or else he could shorten his clearing time.
Finally, in the last line "Then let's set off," Ethan shoots out like an arrow released from its bow.
The Little Red Riding Hood level is divided into three main scenes: Street, Staircase, and Grandmother's Cottage.
The monsters in the first two scenes aren't too difficult and manageable for beginners. The insanity lies in the third scene, Grandmother's Cottage, which inconceivably houses three bosses: the Wolf, Grandmother, and the final boss, Little Red Riding Hood. Each boss is disguised and has a killing order. New players must first see through their disguises, then defeat them one by one, and finally, beware of "the innocent Little Red Riding Hood's deadly strike."
But to Ethan, who has cleared the game 999 times, these are no issues.
He speeds through the street, slaying three human-faced wolf spiders at the second, seventh, and ninth intersections, stands at the corner bun listening to the boss babble for ages to receive half an old photo, and gathers the other half from a notice board.
Entering the staircase, he ducks low, squeezing into the third floor's water tank to avoid the pursuit of an inverted woman. After she wanders back and forth four times, he climbs out from the tank, ascends to the fourth floor, and enters Grandmother's Cottage.
Inside, a pair of real and fake grandmothers, laughing sinisterly, welcome Ethan and Little Red Riding Hood. Ethan waits for their "chittering" laughter to end; no choice, it's part of the plot.
Then, without even piecing together the clues, he points to the left one saying, "You're the Wolf," to the right, "You're the dead Grandmother," and swings his hammer at each.
"And you."
Ethan turns, facing Little Red Riding Hood's abyssal maw, and stuffs the inflatable hammer into her mouth.
Game over.
The surrounding old scenes crumble like a collapsing sandcastle, gradually fading away.
In a silent darkness, there's a glowing path. This narrow, long path, like a thread suspended over an endless abyss, requires just one misstep to fall into eternal doom.
But for Ethan, who has walked it 999 times, he could do it blindfolded.
No different from before, on his 1000th time, Ethan walks this path, sighing as he goes.
In his previous life, he died suddenly from overwork as 007, waking up in this wretched place. Clearing a thousand times, he still doesn't see the point. He might as well go to hell.
...
He couldn't already be in hell, could he?!
Otherwise, why the endless torment?!
This thought somewhat shocks Ethan. In a moment of distraction, his foot falters, and he feels himself lift off the ground.
Ah?
...
Ah—
Ethan screams as he falls into the boundless darkness, not knowing how long it's been, feeling himself forcefully smashed onto the ground, dazed for a long while.
"Are you alright?"
Vaguely, he hears someone speaking.
He thinks he's hallucinating until his vision clears, and everything around is still familiar.
The gray skies, the deserted long street, and the few mournful bird cries in the silence.
"Whew, I'm back at the revival point."
Ethan is relieved yet disappointed, ready to start his 1001st hunt for Little Red Riding Hood.
But this time is slightly different.
He eyes the nine strangers in front of him, wary.
"Who are you?"
The nine people, in various attire, male and female, don't look like they belong together, all tense.
A girl in sportswear timidly replies.
"We...are all players, aren't you?"
Players?
New players!
Ethan's eyes blaze, frightening the girl across from him into thinking he's a cannibal.
"Don't be afraid," Ethan raises his hand, signaling he means no harm, "I just haven't seen anyone alive in a long time."
"…"

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
New to the world of shifters, Draven is human on the run. A beautiful girl who no one could protect. Domonic is the cold Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack. A brotherhood of twelve wolves that live by twelve rules. Rules which they vowed could NEVER be broken.
Especially - Rule Number One - No Mates
When Draven meets Domonic, he knows that she is his mate, but Draven has no idea what a mate is, only that she has fallen in love with a shifter. An Alpha that will break her heart to make her leave. Promising herself, she will never forgive him, she disappears.
But she doesn’t know about the child she’s carrying or that the moment she left, Domonic decided rules were made to be broken - and now will he ever find her again? Will she forgive him?
The Biker's Fate
I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Dani," he pressed. "Do you get me?"
"No, Austin, I don't," I admitted as I pulled my robe closed again and sat up. "You confuse me."
He dragged his hands down his face. "Tell me what's on your mind."
I sighed. "You're everything my parents warned me against. You're secretive, but you're also honest. I feel wholly protected by you, but then you scare me more than anyone I've ever known. You're a bad boy, but when I dated a so-called good one, he turned out to be the devil, so, yeah, I don't get you because you're not what I expected. You drive me crazier than anyone I've ever met, but then you make me feel complete. I'm feeling things I don't quite know how to process and that makes me want to run. I don't want to give up something that might be really, really good, but I also don't want to be stupid and fall for a boy just because he's super pretty and makes me come."
Danielle Harris is the daughter of an overprotective police chief and has led a sheltered life. As a kindergarten teacher, she's as far removed from the world of Harleys and bikers as you could get, but when she's rescued by the sexy and dangerous Austin Carver, her life is changed forever.
Although Austin 'Booker' Carver is enamored by the innocent Dani, he tries to keep the police chief's daughter at arm's length. But when a threat is made from an unexpected source, he finds himself falling hard and fast for the only woman who can tame his wild heart.
Will Booker be able to find the source of the threat before it's too late?
Will Dani finally give her heart to a man who's everything she's been warned about?
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
The Biker Alpha Who Became My Second Chance Mate
"You're like a sister to me."
Those were the actual words that broke the camel's back.
Not after what just happened. Not after the hot, breathless, soul-shaking night we spent tangled in each other's arms.
I knew from the beginning that Tristan Hayes was a line I shouldn't cross.
He wasn't just anyone, he was my brother's best friend. The man I spent years secretly wanting.
But that night... we were broken. We had just buried our parents. And the grief was too heavy, too real...so I begged him to touch me.
To make me forget. To fill the silence that death left behind.
And he did. He held me like I was something fragile.
Kissed me like I was the only thing he needed to breathe.
Then left me bleeding with six words that burned deeper than rejection ever could.
So, I ran. Away from everything that cost me pain.
Now, five years later, I'm back.
Fresh from rejecting the mate who abused me. Still carrying the scars of a pup I never got to hold.
And the man waiting for me at the airport isn't my brother.
It's Tristan.
And he's not the guy I left behind.
He's a biker.
An Alpha.
And when he looked at me, I knew there was no where else to run to.
Balance of Light and Shadow
Little did she know how much both worlds need her to bring peace and true freedom.
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.

My Possessive Alpha Twins For Mate
My drunk stepfather remained indifferent, his weight suffocating, making it hard to breathe as my heart raced.
Suddenly, the door slammed open, and two figures burst in.
"Get off her!" a deafening roar echoed.
I didn't expect the twin brothers who'd bullied me at school to come charging in like gods to save me.
After my grandmother passed, I had to move in with my mom and stepdad, who treated me like a servant. I prayed every day for my 18th birthday to come, so l could leave and escape this broken home.
However, on my first day at my new school, l encountered the legendary twins everyone feared.
To make matters worse, the Moon Goddess revealed they were both my mates!
After helping me out with my stepdad, my twin mate cornered me, played with my hair, and whispered possessively, "You belong to us, our little mate..."
Oops, Wrong Girl to Bully
My back hit the desk. Pain exploded through my skull.
"Girls like you don't get to dream about guys like Kai." Bella's breath was hot on my face. "You don't get to write pathetic love letters."
She shoved me again. Harder.
"Maybe if you weren't such a desperate little—"
I fell. My head cracked against the corner.
Warmth trickled down my neck. Blood.
Their laughter turned to gasps.
The door slammed.
I tried to stand. Couldn't. The room was spinning, fading to black.
Someone... please...
