Introduction
Kieran Hale never signed off on our son's treatment. That call belonged to his chief of staff. Liora wanted forms, signatures, a second opinion. When I phoned Kieran from the hospital hallway, begging, he told me to do what Liora said.
Caspian died while I was still filling out paperwork.
I buried him with money borrowed from a mother I hadn't spoken to in seven years. When I told my husband our son was dead, he looked me in the eye and told me not to wish death on my own child. He thinks I'm hiding Caspian at my mother's to punish him. He thinks I'll come crawling back.
Instead, I handed him divorce papers.
He still has no idea what he's already lost.
Chapter 1
Isolde's POV
My son needed $500,000 to survive the night. My husband is a billionaire. The money never came.
Kieran Hale never signed off on our son's treatment. That call belonged to his chief of staff. Liora wanted forms, signatures, a second opinion. When I phoned Kieran from the hospital hallway, begging, he told me to do what Liora said.

——
For seven days, I didn't file a single household expense request.
At noon on the seventh day, my husband called me himself, for the first time in months. Kieran Hale, CEO of Rothwell Capital Group, didn't make his own calls. He had people for that.
"Havenbrook's bill has been taken care of." His voice was the same as always: smooth, measured, and generous the way a man is generous when he wants credit for it. "Stop making scenes, Isolde. Stop using our son to get my attention, and you'll always be Mrs. Kieran Hale. Every woman in this city will envy you."
He took my silence for surrender, proof that I'd finally learned my lesson.
He had no idea why I hadn't asked his family office for a single dollar all week. I'd been busy burying our son. The plot and the casket were paid for with money I'd borrowed from my mother, a woman I hadn't spoken to in seven years.
I'd just gotten back from Westview Cemetery when he called. That morning, they had lowered Caspian's little casket into the ground. Besides me, the only people at the grave were two cemetery workers.
From the outside, I had everything: a three-story beach house in Cove Haven, a driver on call, a closet full of couture, and a last name that opened almost any door in town.
Almost none of it was mine.
The family office monitored my credit cards. Any real cash withdrawal required a written request. The household staff took their orders from Liora Thorne before they took them from me. As Kieran's chief of staff, Liora ran everything that touched my life: my calendar, what I wore to galas, even the medical budget for my own family. Kieran called it efficiency.
Seven days earlier, our three-year-old, Caspian, had collapsed on the living room rug, seizing. At Havenbrook Hospital, the doctors told me they needed a $500,000 deposit before they could start emergency treatment. If the money cleared in time, he still had a chance.
I called home for help, and Liora buried the money under one procedure after another. She wanted a written treatment recommendation from the attending physician, a co-signature from a second specialist, a family office expense form, and a final sign-off from the family's in-house accountant. Every time I turned in one document, she found another one missing.
"Without a full treatment plan and an itemized cost breakdown," she said, endlessly patient, "I can't release the funds. If it turns out the hospital exaggerated the risk, Kieran is the one who takes the hit. I know you're scared, Isolde. But being scared doesn't change procedure."
I stood in a freezing hospital hallway and called Kieran. I begged him not to hang up, just to let me finish one sentence. But Liora was with him, and she got to him first.
"Mr. Hale, I think Mrs. Hale has misunderstood me. All I told the hospital is that we can't release a payment that size without complete paperwork. If it's truly an emergency, I can override the process, but the finance committee will have questions afterward. I'm being strict because Mrs. Hale needs to learn how things work in this family."
"Isolde." Kieran already sounded impatient. "Listen to her. She's thought of everything. Every time the kid sneezes, you fall apart. Why can't you be more like her? Do what Liora says. We'll talk once the paperwork's done."
So I spent the rest of that night in the hallway, making calls, filling out forms, signing my name, until Caspian stopped breathing.
Seven days later, the moment Kieran told me the bill was paid, I hung up and drove to Rothwell Tower.
He was at his massive desk, signing documents. Liora stood beside him, setting a freshly printed schedule at his elbow. I told him I wanted a divorce. He didn't even look up, just laughed under his breath.
"What is it this time? Because I missed Caspian's birthday?" He said it as if I were the one being unreasonable. "You know how busy I am."
"Caspian is dead."
His pen stopped. For two seconds, the office was silent. Then he looked up, and his face went cold, inch by inch.
"Fight with me all you want, Isolde. But don't you dare wish death on your own son."
"Mr. Hale," Liora said gently, right on cue, "Mrs. Hale hasn't been herself all week. I spoke with the hospital just yesterday. Caspian just caught a mild bug."
Kieran's shoulders loosened, as if he'd finally been handed an explanation that made sense. He came around the desk, relaxed, almost indulgent, and reached for my shoulder. I stepped back. His hand hung in the air. He frowned, then smoothed the frown away.
"I know the hospital thing upset you. But Liora talked to the doctors, and it was nothing serious. I held up part of the approval because I didn't want you panicking into some overpriced treatment plan." He glanced at Liora. "She was following my instructions. You don't need to take it out on her in front of my staff. Once things calm down around here, I'll make up Caspian's birthday to him."
He checked his watch. "I've got partners waiting. I'll be home tonight, and I'll pick up a cake from Mireille's on the way. You two be good and wait for me."
You two. As if there were still two of us at home to wait for him.
He hadn't been home once in seven days. He hadn't asked a single question about our son. Yet he was sure a little tenderness would make it all go away. Seven days ago, if he'd let me finish one sentence, I might have been foolish enough to stay. Now no cake and no make-up birthday could change a thing.

He reached for the back of my head and pulled me up just enough to reach my neck. When his fangs slid into me, the pain was instant, electric. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think. My hands found his shoulders, clawing for something to hold. My legs kicked. Tears streamed down my cheeks.
He moaned against my throat as he drank, and the sound was devastating.

Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?
