Kate Jennings was dead.

She lay motionless on the cold floor of an abandoned harbor warehouse, her blood staining the snow red. Her spirit hovered above, wracked with sobs that no one could hear.

The man's limbs had been severed, his life ebbing away, yet somehow he seemed to see her.

He struggled to form a smile. "Kate, is that you?"

"Yes, it's me!" Kate desperately tried to embrace him, but her ethereal form passed through his body. She collapsed to her knees as pain tore through her soul, bloody tears streaming down her face.

"Ethan, why? Why did you try to save me?"

She had been so cruel to him, yet he risked his life for her.

"Because... I love you," Ethan Levington seemed to hear her cries.

"I'm sorry, Kate. I couldn't save you in the end. But perhaps this is better... dying together... at least we're... together now."

Ethan smiled as his eyes closed forever. Kate threw her head back in a soul-shattering cry of anguish. "No!"

Her scream still echoed in her ears when a gentle male voice suddenly spoke beside her.

"Kate, it's time for the ring."

The scene transformed instantly. Before her stood Blake Hamilton's hypocritical face, smiling as he held out a ring. Kate's mind reeled with shock.

Seeing no response, Blake called her name again softly.

Fighting to keep her composure, Kate continued staring at Sophia. Misinterpreting her gaze as a plea for reassurance, Sophia leaned in, deliberately speaking just loud enough for others to hear.

"Kate, it's okay. Everyone gets nervous at their engagement, especially with someone like Blake. Marrying your savior has been your dream, hasn't it? If it were me, I'd be just as nervous."

As she spoke, she gave Kate a gentle nudge. Her eyes were full of envy, and Kate inwardly laughed coldly.

Still the same disgusting act, performing her "sisterly love" routine at every opportunity. No wonder she hadn't seen through it in her previous life!

Kate now seriously doubted whether Blake had ever saved her at all. This time, she would discover the truth!

Kate violently threw her bouquet to the floor. Though her voice wasn't loud, it plunged the venue into dead silence.

Everyone froze, including Blake, Sophia, and Kate's father—Richard Jennings.

"Kate, what did you just say? Have you lost your mind?" Richard didn't afford Kate the slightest dignity.

Kate looked at him coldly.

Her gaze wasn't that of a daughter looking at her father.

Indeed, every so-called family member present today was her enemy.

That certainly included her cold-hearted father.

Kate ripped off her veil and stomped on it.

Richard raised his hand to strike her, but Blake stopped him.

With so many guests present, they couldn't afford to lose their composure.

Blake signaled that he would handle the situation, and Richard sat down with a dark expression.

"Kate, this isn't the time for tantrums," Blake said with a slight frown, his tone carefully calibrated to sound conciliatory.

"I know I was late today, and that upset you. After the engagement ceremony, I promise to make it up to you, okay?"

"Tantrum?" Kate laughed. She looked up, her gaze cutting like a knife. "Blake, do you really think you're worthy of my tantrums?"

"You only got engaged to me for my status and my family's fortune. Did you think I didn't know? Throw a tantrum for someone like you? I'd rather not dirty myself."

At these words, Blake's smile froze on his face.

He seemed unable to believe that the usually compliant Kate would say such things. Momentarily stunned, he completely failed to maintain his facade.

The guests, sensing drama, collectively fell silent, hoping to catch every word.

Seeing this, Sophia quickly stepped forward to smooth things over.

"Everyone, I'm so sorry. Kate has never been scolded by our father since she was little. I think she's just upset that Father wasn't as gentle with her today as usual, so she's saying these absurd things."

After addressing the crowd, she turned to Kate, her voice soft as cotton.

"Kate, you're being ridiculous. Blake's not like that. He's so hardworking and ambitious, and he's always been so considerate. Don't hurt his feelings with words spoken in anger."

Her statement was flawless, simultaneously praising Richard, defusing Blake's embarrassment, and portraying Kate as a "spoiled, immature" girl.

Kate watched her performance coldly, then suddenly smiled.

"Sophia, you seem to understand him better than I do. What's going on? Are you two having an affair? That would be quite a betrayal."

Sophia stared at Kate in disbelief, her eyes welling up with tears of apparent hurt.

"Kate, what are you saying? What's gotten into you today?"

Kate ignored her, her gaze traveling through the crowd to land on a Bentley pulling up outside.

That was Ethan's car.

In her previous life, on her engagement day, he had waited outside the venue. But that day, she had said terrible things to him that she deeply regretted.

She almost ran to the entrance. As Ethan stepped out of the car, her heart felt like it had been struck by lightning.

Seeing him again was such a blessing.

With tears in her eyes, she tightly embraced him.

This scene shocked everyone present.

"What's going on? Is Kate cheating on Blake?" someone whispered.

"Isn't that Mr. Levington? Aren't he and Kate famously at odds?"

"Kate, what are you—"

Ethan's body stiffened. Kate buried her face against his chest and spoke clearly and firmly, her voice reaching everyone.

"Ethan, let's get engaged."

At her words, the entire gathering fell completely silent.

Blake's face darkened like the bottom of a pot, while Ethan remained rigid. His deep eyes suddenly surged with turbulent emotions, before becoming clouded.

Hadn't she told him that she despised him and would never marry him in this lifetime?
