Monica Scott heard people nearby talking and looked up to see that familiar figure.

Shane Carter was wearing a black suit, holding a champagne glass. He stood tall with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and there was a cold, distant air in his every move.

Monica's stomach twisted as memories came flooding back...

A sweet, delicate voice stopped her.

Monica paused and slowly turned around.

Cindy Hall was wearing an expensive gown, looking her up and down with a challenging gaze, her lips curling into a contemptuous smile. "What a surprise that GrandView Corporation's partner this time is the law firm Ms. Scott works for. I heard they have extremely high standards for partners. Guess that's not really the case."

Her words were barbed, making Monica frown.

Cindy Hall was Shane's high school classmate who had pursued him for a long time, but Shane had chosen Monica instead.

Because of this, Cindy had always held a grudge against Monica.

Several people nearby heard the commotion and turned to look their way with curious eyes.

Shane, standing in the crowd, lowered his head and swirled his glass, not even lifting an eyelid, as if everything happening had nothing to do with him.

After all, this was a celebration party hosted by a client. Monica didn't want to make things awkward.

She took a deep breath and put on a polite smile. "Ms. Hall, you're joking. Our firm's partnership with GrandView Corporation is based on professional ability."

"Professional ability?" Cindy snorted coldly, her tone mocking. "Right, five years ago you could abandon everything for your career, so naturally five years later you can use some shady methods to latch onto GrandView Corporation."

Monica's expression darkened, her knuckles turning white as she gripped her glass.

She knew Cindy was referring to her abandoning Shane back then.

The incident had caused quite a stir at the time. Shane had been depressed for a long time because of it and almost couldn't finish his studies.

Shane had excellent grades and came from a good family. Many people felt sorry for him and called Monica a heartless woman behind her back, saying she could abandon such an outstanding man.

Seeing her silence, Cindy's smile grew wider. "Did I actually hit the mark?"

Monica suddenly laughed, a faint smile. "Even if I did latch on, that's my ability. Unlike some people who tried everything five years ago and still couldn't get what they wanted. It's been five years now—you should have succeeded by now, right?"

These words struck right at Cindy's sore spot. She hated most when people mentioned she couldn't win Shane over.

The onlookers started whispering, all curious about what had happened between these two.

Cindy's face instantly turned dark. Just as she was about to lose her temper, Victor, the party host, walked over with a smile.

"What are you all talking about? Seems lively!"

Victor Young was the CEO of GrandView Corporation. He'd seen all kinds of situations and could tell at a glance that these two were at odds.

One was the beautiful lawyer who had just won a lawsuit for him, the other was the daughter of Hall Company. He didn't want to offend either and tried to smooth things over. "Come on, just drinking and chatting is boring. We're all young people here—let's play something exciting to liven things up!"

Victor clapped his hands, signaling everyone to gather around. "Let's play a game—Truth or Dare. How about it?"

The atmosphere instantly picked up, and everyone laughed and agreed.

An empty bottle was placed on the low table in the center, and Victor gave it a hard spin.

Everyone held their breath nervously, except Monica—her mind wasn't on the game at all.

The bottle's spinning gradually slowed down. Finally, the mouth of the bottle pointed squarely at Shane.

"Wow! It's Mr. Carter!"

"Mr. Carter, truth or dare?"

Monica's heart tightened as she stole a glance at him from the corner of her eye.

Shane leaned lazily against the sofa, his expression indifferent, showing no interest in this kind of game.

Victor pulled out a slip of paper from the draw box, glanced at it, and immediately showed a mischievous smile. "This is exciting! The task is to share a french fry with a lady present, eating from opposite ends until your lips touch."

As soon as he finished speaking, the whole room erupted.

Monica instinctively clutched at her dress, wanting to escape immediately.

Even now, she still couldn't let go of Shane. She couldn't bear to watch Shane kiss another woman.

"Mr. Carter, who do you want to choose?" Victor patted Shane's shoulder, asking with a half-smile.
