Chapter 1
Chapter 1: "The Shadow's Call"
The ancient stones of the ritual circle loomed before Lyra, their weathered surfaces etched with symbols older than the kingdom itself. Moonlight bathed the clearing in an ethereal glow, casting long shadows that seemed to dance at the edges of her vision. Lyra took a deep breath, steadying herself as she approached the center of the circle.
"Remember, child," Magister Eldrin's voice carried from behind her, "focus on the light within. Let it guide you through the ritual."
Lyra nodded, her heart pounding in her chest. She had trained for this moment her entire life, yet doubt gnawed at the edges of her mind. The coming-of-age ritual was a cornerstone of their society, the moment when young mages fully awakened their connection to light magic. Failure was not an option.
As she stepped onto the central dais, Lyra closed her eyes and raised her hands, palms facing the star-studded sky. The cool night air prickled her skin, carrying with it the scent of pine and distant rain. She began to chant the ancient words, her voice growing stronger with each syllable.
"Lux aeterna, illumina animam meam..."
A warmth blossomed in her chest, spreading through her body like liquid sunlight. This was it - the awakening she had dreamed of for so long. Lyra's lips curved into a smile as she continued the incantation, her confidence growing.
But then, something changed.
The warmth in her chest turned cold, a chill that seeped into her bones. Lyra's eyes snapped open, confusion and fear warring within her. The moonlight seemed to dim, the shadows around the ritual circle growing darker, more substantive.
"Magister Eldrin?" Lyra called out, her voice trembling. "Something's wrong!"
There was no response. Lyra turned, searching for her mentor, but the shadows had thickened into an impenetrable veil. Panic clawed at her throat as she realized she was alone, cut off from the world she knew.
The shadows began to move, coalescing into shapes that defied description. Lyra stumbled backward, her heart racing. This wasn't supposed to happen. The ritual was meant to connect her to the light, not... this.
A voice whispered in her mind, ancient and powerful. "Child of twilight, hear our call."
Lyra froze, her eyes wide. "Who... what are you?"
The shadows swirled around her, their touch cool against her skin. "We are the forgotten, the hidden. The balance that light has long denied."
Images flashed through Lyra's mind - vast caverns glowing with an inner light, creatures of shadow and mist, a world existing alongside her own yet forever apart. She gasped, overwhelmed by the torrent of information.
"This isn't right," Lyra protested, struggling to make sense of what was happening. "I'm supposed to be a light mage. This can't be happening!"
The shadows receded slightly, forming a vaguely humanoid shape before her. "You are more than what they would make of you, Lyra. You stand at the threshold between worlds, with the power to bridge the divide."
Lyra shook her head, tears stinging her eyes. "I don't understand. Please, just let me go back. Let me complete the ritual!"
The shadow being reached out, its touch surprisingly gentle. "The ritual is complete, child. But not in the way anyone expected. You have awakened a power long thought lost to this world."
As the being spoke, Lyra felt something shift within her. The fear and confusion began to ebb, replaced by a sense of... rightness. The shadows no longer seemed threatening, but familiar, almost comforting.
"What am I?" Lyra whispered, staring at her hands. Tendrils of shadow curled around her fingers, responding to her thoughts.
"You are a bridge, Lyra. A shadow mage, with the rare gift to communicate with our kind. Your path will not be easy, but it is yours alone to walk."
The veil of shadows began to thin, revealing the moonlit clearing once more. Lyra could hear voices calling her name, filled with concern and fear. The shadow being started to fade.
"Wait!" Lyra called out. "There's so much I need to know!"
The being's voice echoed in her mind one last time. "Seek the truths hidden in darkness, Lyra. We will be waiting."
As suddenly as it had begun, the strange experience ended. Lyra found herself standing in the center of the ritual circle, surrounded by worried faces. Magister Eldrin rushed forward, his usually calm demeanor shaken.
"Lyra! By the light, what happened? The shadows... I've never seen anything like it!"
Lyra looked at her mentor, then at the other mages gathered around the circle. Their expressions ranged from concern to outright fear. She realized in that moment that her life had changed irrevocably.
"I... I'm not sure," Lyra said, her voice steadier than she felt. "But I think I just discovered something that's been hidden for a very long time."
Magister Eldrin's brow furrowed. "What do you mean, child? What did you see?"
Lyra took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. She knew instinctively that she couldn't reveal everything - not yet, not until she understood it herself.
"The ritual... it awakened something in me, Magister. But I don't think it's the light magic we expected."
A murmur ran through the gathered mages. Eldrin's face paled. "Lyra, you must tell me exactly what happened. If this is what I fear..."
Lyra straightened her shoulders, meeting her mentor's gaze. "I communicated with the shadows, Magister. They spoke to me, showed me things. I... I think I might be a shadow mage."
The clearing erupted into chaos. Mages shouted over one another, some calling for Lyra to be contained, others demanding answers. Through it all, Lyra stood silent, the shadows at her feet responding to her turmoil, writhing and twisting.
Magister Eldrin raised his hands, calling for silence. "Enough! This is unprecedented, but we will not act rashly. Lyra is still one of our own."
He turned to Lyra, his expression a mix of concern and something else - a glimmer of excitement, perhaps? "My dear, I believe we have much to discuss. Shadow magic has been lost to us for centuries. If you truly have this gift..."
Lyra nodded, grateful for her mentor's support but acutely aware of the suspicious glares from the other mages. She knew her life would never be the same. The path ahead was shrouded in mystery, filled with dangers she could only begin to imagine.
As she left the ritual circle, escorted by Magister Eldrin, Lyra cast one last glance over her shoulder. For a moment, she thought she saw a figure formed of shadow, watching her from the treeline. It nodded once, then vanished.
Lyra turned away, squaring her shoulders. Whatever challenges lay ahead, whatever secrets she had to uncover, she would face them head-on. The shadows had called, and Lyra had answered. There was no turning back now.

A Lesson in Magic
Claimed by the Alpha's Love
Four years ago, Fiona's meticulously planned conspiracy turned me from an ordinary omega into a prisoner carrying the weight of a murder charge.
Four years later, I return to a world that has changed beyond recognition.
My best friend Fiona, who is also my stepsister, has become the perfect daughter in my mother's eyes. And my ex-boyfriend, Ethan, is about to hold a high-profile mating ceremony with her.
The love, family bonds, and reputation that I once cherished have all been taken by Fiona.
Just when I had reached my breaking point, questioning the very purpose of my existence, the legendary Alpha Lucas of Moonhaven suddenly appeared in my life.
He is powerful and enigmatic, a figure that all werewolves hold in awe.
Yet, he shows an extraordinary persistence and tenderness towards me.
Is Lucas's appearance a gift from fate, or the start of another conspiracy?
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
