Spores Descend: I Hang My Brother Outside the Window
Angela · Completed · 8.3k Words
Introduction
The man-eating scarlet spores swept through the town. My good brother locked the security door tightly and locked me in the corridor filled with blood mist.
He stared intently at me through the peephole, waiting to see the horrific sight of my internal organs being drained by the fungus.
But a second before I was devoured by the spores, I hid in my personal space and with a single thought drained the last drop of water and every grain of rice from the room.
Three days later, in this impregnable "vacuum tomb".
When he was so thirsty that he swallowed blood, and knelt on the ground desperately pounding on the door.
I kicked the door open, tied him up with nylon rope, and hung him upside down in the blood-red storm outside the window.
Chapter 1
"Useless trash should get out and save some food!"
Bang!
The security door slammed down behind me, followed by the click of it locking.
I collapsed in the hallway outside the door, and a swarm of scarlet spores instantly covered my mouth and nose. They burrowed into my pores like living creatures, greedily draining every drop of moisture from my body.
I writhed on the floor in agony, my mouth agape but no sound came out; it felt as if thousands of insects were devouring my insides. Inside, my "good buddy" Marcus was embracing his girlfriend, laughing hysterically at my gruesome death through the peephole, completely unmoved by my screams.
"ah--!"
I sprang up from the bed, panting heavily, my clothes completely soaked with cold sweat.
I gripped my thigh tightly; the sharp pain told me I was still alive.
But my hands were shaking uncontrollably.
This is the fifth time I've had the same dream this week!
Each dream was incredibly real: Marcus's ferocious face, the excruciating pain of the spores bursting as they drained my internal organs, even the suffocating feeling of death was clearer with each repetition. This wasn't a dream; it was my subconscious body frantically issuing death warnings!
Just when I was at my most tense, my phone on the bedside table suddenly vibrated, the abrupt buzzing sending chills down my spine.
The words "Marcus" were displayed on the screen .
I stared intently at the screen, my heart pounding. I took a deep breath and swiped to answer the call.
came from the other end of the phone . “The landlord’s making trouble over the plumbing, and I was thinking… how about I bring my wife and her brother to stay with you for a few days? We’ll be fine once things calm down.”
boom!
A sound exploded in my mind, and my blood instantly turned cold.
Exactly the same!
Even the tone and reason were exactly the same as in the dream!
In my dream, he used this excuse to move into my house. When the apocalyptic outbreak brought about by the crimson spores occurred, the three of them comfortably occupied my house and supplies. In the end, to save a sip of water, they forcibly pushed me out to feed the spores!
"No." I gritted my teeth and refused bluntly, as if the pain and despair in my dream were real.
"What? Bro, don't be so heartless, we'll just stay a few days..."
"roll."
I hung up the phone without hesitation and immediately blocked the number.
The last glimmer of hope vanished. The end of the world was coming, and it was just days away.
There's no time to be afraid, I must survive!
I rolled out of bed, put on my clothes in two minutes, grabbed my car keys and all my credit cards, and rushed downstairs.
Twenty minutes later, my SUV braked suddenly and stopped in front of the largest building materials wholesale market on the outskirts of the city.
"Boss, I need the thickest and safest doors and windows, and I need them installed today ! High-strength expansion bolts, moisture-proof plastic film, industrial sealing tape—install as many as you have in your shop, quick!"
Next up are large warehouse supermarkets.
I was pushing three shopping carts, running frantically between the shelves. Cases of high-energy bars, canned beef, hundreds of bottles of purified water, top-level gas masks, and large quantities of antibiotics and first-aid supplies.
I maxed out four credit cards.
On the way back, I floored the accelerator, my mind filled with reinforcement plans: I live on the second floor, and as long as I seal the main door with steel plates and block all the vents and window gaps with sealant and plastic film, not even a fly can get in, and those deadly scarlet spores won't be able to infect me.
We're almost there.
I jerked the steering wheel and the SUV turned into the street below the apartment building.
Crack!
I slammed on the brakes, and the tires screeched as they dragged across the asphalt.
I stared intently at the entrance of the apartment building, my pupils suddenly contracting.
There were three people standing there, with large and small woven bags and cheap suitcases piled up at their feet.
Marcus was smoking a cigarette, while his girlfriend Lisa and her brother were looking around impatiently.
Grass!
I slammed my fist on the steering wheel.
In my precognitive dream, they arrived just hours before the apocalypse. But now, they've arrived several days early, bringing all their belongings and blocking my apartment building!

I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
