SWEET WICKED FANGS
The Guitarist · Ongoing · 41.0k Words
Introduction
They thought I died down there. They were wrong.
Deep within my shattered soul, something ancient and terrifying woke up. I am the last of an extinct bloodline, a mind-weaver capable of bending immortal minds using lethal, dark shadow chants.
Now, I’ve crawled out of the grave with a fresh face and a cold, beautiful mask. My target? King Alexander Vampirizh, the ruthless tyrant who built his empire on human blood.
He thinks I’m just a sweet, helpless human to be possessed. He looks at me with consuming desire, unaware that every tender touch, every lingering glance, and every whisper I feed him is a thread tightening around his mind.
Let the King adore me. Let him drop his guard. Because the sweetest fangs aren't the ones in his mouth, they’re the silent words on my lips that will burn his kingdom to ash.
Chapter 1
The smell of rain in Manhattan always lies. It promised to wash the city clean, but all it ever did was slick the soot against the pavement and bring the reek of stagnant blood up from the subways.
Elizabeth Mcfloy kept her chin down, her threadbare coat pulled tightly over a collarbone that bore the fading purple bruises of yesterday’s mistake.
The mistake of standing too close to the elevator when Lord Cassian walked by. The mistake of breathing too loudly in a room where the aristocracy gathered.
In the year 2026, humanity didn’t run the world. They were just the grease in the gears of the Coven’s modern empire. Vampires didn't hide in ancient, crumbling castles anymore; they owned the tech conglomerates, the banks, the media, and the skyscraper spires that scraped the smoggy sky.
Humans were allowed to exist, provided they kept their eyes down, paid their blood taxes, and remembered their place at the bottom of the food chain.
And at the very bottom of that pile sat Elizabeth.
"Ellie, hurry up! They’re going to lock the lower concourse gates," a frantic whisper cut through the drizzle.
Mia grabbed Elizabeth’s hand, pulling her down the wet steps toward the abandoned subway entrance on 4th Street.
Elizabeth looked at Mia, her chest aching with a raw, agonizing gratitude that almost made her choke. Mia was her anchor.
For three grueling years, through every cruel prank by the Coven's thralls, every backhanded slap from blood-patrons, and every night spent starving on a cold apartment floor, Mia had been there.
They had shared cold cans of soup, cried quietly into the same thin blanket, and sworn on their lives that they would survive this city together.
A broken heart takes time to shatter, Elizabeth thought, her fingers tightening around her friend’s hand, but it bleeds immediately.
"Where are we going, Mia?" Elizabeth asked, her voice raspy, shivering as the damp cold sank into her bones. "The market closed an hour ago. If the enforcers catch us out past curfew—"
"I told you, I found a way out," Mia breathed. Her eyes were wide, manic, reflecting the dim neon lights of an off-duty streetlamp.
"A guy from the Upper Terrace... he said if we bring the ledger from the lower vault, he’ll give us forged transit passes. Real ones, Ellie. We can leave the city. No more Coven. No more blood-tithes."
Hope. It was a cruel, sickening emotion. It fluttered in Elizabeth’s chest like a trapped bird. "Are you sure?"
"I’d die for you, Ellie. You know that," Mia said softly, stopping at the threshold of the rusted iron door that led into the old catacombs. "Trust me."
Elizabeth swallowed the lump of fear in her throat and nodded. She trusted her. Mia was all she had left.
They stepped into the darkness. The iron door creaked shut behind them, the heavy lock clicking into place with a sound like a snapping bone.
The ambient noise of the city died instantly, replaced by a suffocating, heavy silence. The air down here didn't taste like rain. It tasted of copper, old dust, and the cloying, sickly sweet scent of crushed velvet and dried iron.
"Mia... it’s too quiet," Elizabeth whispered, terror suddenly prickling down her spine. "Where is the ledger?"
Mia stopped walking. She didn't turn around.
From the shadows of the subterranean hall, low, echoing laughter began to drift through the air. It wasn't the laughter of men. It was smooth, echoing, and entirely devoid of warmth.
Pairs of eyes began to ignite in the pitch-black gloom—crimson, gold, and cold violet.
Elizabeth’s breath hitched. Vampires. High-borns.
"Mia?" Elizabeth’s voice cracked. She reached out to touch her friend's shoulder, but Mia stepped forward, out of her reach, and turned to face her.
There was no fear in Mia’s face. No panic. Only a cold, calculating detachment that made Elizabeth’s stomach drop into a bottomless abyss.
"She’s clean," Mia said, her voice unnervingly loud in the quiet chamber. She was looking past Elizabeth, into the dark. "No drugs in her system. Pure human strain. Unblemished, just like you wanted."
A tall, breathtakingly handsome figure stepped into the dim light. Lord Julian. His silver hair fell over an immaculate velvet suit, his lips pulled back in a cruel, amused smirk. Behind him stood half a dozen thralls, holding silver blades and heavy, dark wooden bowls.
"Very good, little mouse," Julian purred, throwing a velvet pouch at Mia’s feet. It hit the stone with a heavy, metallic clink. "Your ascension paper. The Coven accepts your offering."
Elizabeth froze. Her mind refused to process the image. She looked from the bag of coin and papers on the floor to Mia’s face.
"Mia...?" The word was a bleeding whisper. "What... what is this?"
Mia wouldn't look her in the eye. She snatched the pouch from the floor, clutching it to her chest. "I’m sorry, Ellie. But it was either you or me. They wanted a virgin blood-sacrifice to open the shadow-gate for the King’s arrival tonight. They offered a place in the Coven’s outer court for whoever provided it."
No.
The world shattered into jagged, agonizing shards. The years of shared meals. The whispered dreams in the dark. The promises. It had all been an investment. A transaction.
"You... you used me?" Elizabeth stammered, taking a trembling step back, only for two massive thralls to step out from the darkness behind her, pinning her arms behind her back with crushing force. "Mia, please! I gave you half my food! I took the beatings for you!"
"And I kept you alive until you were worth something," Mia spat, her voice hardening, though a tiny tremor betrayed her. "Look at yourself, Elizabeth! You’re nothing! A pathetic, weak, useless human crawling in the dirt! At least this way, your worthless life actually buys me a future!"
Disappointment. It didn't burn; it froze. It turned Elizabeth’s blood to ice, carving out her chest until there was nothing left inside but a hollow, screaming void.
"Bind her," Lord Julian commanded smoothly, stepping forward with an ornate, obsidian-tipped dagger. "The King expects the shadow-gate to be bathed in fresh offering before midnight."
"Mia! MIA!" Elizabeth screamed, thrashing against the thralls, but her human strength was a joke. They dragged her toward the stone altar in the center of the room.
Mia turned her back and walked toward the exit, her head held high, stepping over the threshold into her new life.
"Look at me, you coward!" Elizabeth sobbed, terror and absolute, blinding fury tearing through her throat. "LOOK AT ME!"
Julian gripped Elizabeth’s hair, yanking her head back until her pale throat was fully exposed. The cold edge of the obsidian blade pressed against her skin.
"Save your breath, cattle," Julian whispered in her ear, his breath smelling of old wine and iron. "Your blood will pave the way for King Alexander’s court. Be proud. It’s the only important thing you’ll ever do."
"I curse you," Elizabeth choked out, tears slicing hot trails down her dirty cheeks, her heart hammering a frantic, dying rhythm against her ribs. "I curse all of you..."
"Humans don't have curses," Julian sneered. "They only have blood."
The blade dragged deep across her throat.
Pain—blinding, absolute, searing hot, exploded through her senses. Elizabeth gasped, but all that came was a wet, choking sound.
The world tilted violently. The cold stone floor rushed up to meet her as the thralls unceremoniously dropped her twitching body into the drain.
She lay there in the dark, her life pooling out around her, soaking into the ancient dirt. Above her, the laughter faded as the vampires walked away, bored by the mundane reality of human death.
Darkness crept in at the edges of her vision. Coldness spread from her neck down to her toes.
I'm dying, she thought. Abandoned. Beaten. Sacrificed.
Meanwhile, the air in the grand cavernous banquet hall above was thick with the scent of roasted meat, spiced wine, and the sickeningly sweet perfume of royal blood.
Miles beneath the gleaming skyscrapers, King Alexander Vampirizh sat upon his throne of carved obsidian, holding a silver chalice filled to the brim with Elizabeth’s fresh blood.
He swirled the deep crimson liquid, bringing it to his lips. When the first drop hit his tongue, Alexander’s crimson eyes widened. It wasn't just sweet—it was pure.
It tasted of raw innocence, untainted by fear-corrupting drugs, carrying a strange, hummed vibration that vibrated against his fangs. He licked his lips slowly, savoring the velvety heat, a dark, dangerous smile curving his mouth.
"Keep the human alive," Alexander commanded, his voice echoing like thunder across the marble floors. "Throw her down, but do not let her heart stop. I want this vessel harvested again."
Far below the banquet hall, in the pitch-black abyss beneath the ravine where discarded human husks were thrown, Elizabeth lay on the cold, jagged rock. Her body was a wreckage of broken bones and torn skin, her throat a wet, gaping ruin where Julian’s blade had slashed her.
Every breath was an agonizing drown in her own blood. As her pulse slowed to a faint, erratic flutter, the horrors of her past clawed their way out of the dark corners of her mind: The screaming.
She was young again, cowering beneath the floorboards of her childhood home while Alexander’s minions tore through the door.
She remembered the sound of her father’s ribs cracking as a clawed hand plunged into his chest, ripping his still-beating heart out to squeeze every warm drop into a glass.
She remembered her br0thers' terrified cries as they were b3aten into unrecognizable pulp, their blo0d harvested into silver pails. She remembered her mother’s gut-wrenching sob as they violat3d her on the dining table before draining her dry.
For years, Elizabeth had been kept in a dark, damp cell, a helpless human thrall forced to relive that bloody night in her nightmares.
And then came Mia. Mia, whom she had treated like a sister. Mia, who had promised her freedom, only to sell her like cattle for a piece of paper.
Broken. Abandoned. Betrayed.
