Chapter 1
Elena’s pov
“Bow to your new Alpha, the first female ruler in the history of Alphas, the New Alpha of Pride rock pack, Matilda Barnes!”
All the blood in my face instantly drained as I pondered over my father’s words over and over again until my vision blurred and I just stood with a blank expression amidst the cheering crowd.
Matilda?
Not Elena.
He had mentioned a Barnes daughter, yes, but it was not me but my half-sister.
As I stood frozen in shock trying to process and comprehend the magnitude of what I had just heard, a hand grasping my shoulder shocked me out of my reverie.
The scent of my mate infiltrated my nostrils, and upon instantly recognizing David was right beside me, my heavy heart lightened a bit and I forced a smile despite the tears that were in my eyes.
David, my mate, stood proudly tall and handsome, gaining him subtle glaring looks of admiration from most women present at the coronation, but I had pride in knowing that he was mine and mine alone. He was my man, my mate.
“David…” I call out in a choked up choice, angry at the helplessness in my voice, yet not to afraid to let the tears slide down my cheeks. What more could I lose? It wasn’t like anyone else was paying attention to us. Everyone had their eyes fixated on the new Alpha who was currently being made to swear the ruler oath. No one paid heed to me. The Alpha daughter with an Omega blood pumping in her veins. The weak daughter with no wolf. The ostracized daughter.
But I was the oldest daughter. And I deserved that spot. The spot which my little half-sister was just occupying. I deserved it. I’ve had something that was rightfully mine taken away from me.
“What’s going on Elena? How could Matilda be up there and not you,” His voice carried a hint or impatience and uncertainty. “I thought you said you were going to talk to him.”
“Of course I did,” I smiled bitterly. “But the choice was his in the end. I was stupid to ever even have hopes of him picking me. Everything I’ve done has been in vain. I worked my ass off, trained and even went as far as assisting him to his various meeting and helping him out in the office. I wanted to make up for the fact that I didn’t have my wolf, David.”
I furiously wiped my tears as I continued again. “Matilda never did shit. Always fucking around with those assholes and partying. I never enjoyed my childhood or teen years while she had the liberty of doing whatever she want. All she has is a wolf. Matilda doesn’t even have brain. After everything I did, why would my own father do this to me?”
My heart felt as heavy as I cried. People had begun noticing, throwing me mean and seething glares and remarks. David protectively had me in his arms as he escorted me out the arena. Not even my father raised his face to acknowledge me.
Even when he had called Matilda, he never even bothered looking at me. Did he not even care how I felt?
Stupid Elena, I berated myself with a throaty chuckle as I was led out with a cloak over my face. Of course he doesn’t care about you, He ceased to love you the moment your mother died after your birth.
My father had always blamed me for the death of his first love and mate, hating me over something I had no control over.
But in actual truth, the real reason my mother had died was due to a heartbreak. One of the midwives had told me that during the time of my birth, he was not even around. My mother, during labor had gotten word that he was with his mistress. She probably couldn’t take the heartbreak coupled with the painful labor and had died.
That mistress turned out to be Patricia, my evil step mother, and Matilda was the unfortunate outcome from their Affair.
The moment they entered into his life, I ceased to exist as his child.
As we passed the corridors down to my room, I could feel a numb growing pain at the back of my throat. I count even speak, only tears rolling down my cheeks.
David was quiet as he led me into the pack house, we came across some of the maid who were probably coming from the arena hall. The had smug smirks on their faces looking at me, some whispering amongst themselves with seething glares as they walked past me.
As David settled me into the bed, I grabbed his hand. I finally met his eyes and my heart broke at the disappointment in them that he had been trying so hard to hide.
“Let’s run away, David.”
“Run away?” He looked me as though I was joking, but on seeing the serious glint in my eyes directed towards him, he slowly shook his head with gritted teeth. “You thought this through already didn’t you?”
“Look,” I inched close to the edge of the bed to hold his hands in mine so we could stare into each other’s eyes. “We can move to a neighboring pack and just live together. We can leave this pack behind David. There’s no reason for us being here anymore. Don’t you see how much they disregard me? I will rather die that have to serve my half-sister.”
“And you seem to be forgetting that I am the Beta’s son.” He let go of my hands, and I felt a chill run down my arms as I hug myself, hurt in m eyes as I stared at him. “I can’t just disregard my duties behind. Just sleep Elena. You’re not in your right senses now.”
He didn’t leave room for any words and soon tucked me in. He left without another word, leaving me alone to ponder only thoughts. I wanted to run away, but with David not on board with the plan, could I leave him behind. He had yet to mark me, so we weren.t officially mates yet, but I couldn’t live without David.
I love him so much
I awakened to the sound of shoes scraping noisily on the floor. I heard two heavy breaths outside my door just before another door was shut in the distance.
My room was very dark, indicating that I had slept for a while, the ceremony was probably over, but what was that noise I heard.
David’s room was quite close to mine.
“David?” I took careful steps outside, eyes squinting through the darkness as I made my way to where the noises seemed to increase. I could hear the familiar sound of a woman moaning and my blood froze when I realized the sound was coming from David’s room.
“No… It can’t be…” I shook my heart, ignoring the throbbing pain in my stomach as I approached the room. The scent of my cheating mate hung heavily on the air. My legs weakened and my chest heaved in pain. I grasped blinding at the walls for support as he tears flowed down my cheeks.
“No. Not you David. Please no…” I muttered under my breath just before I pushed the door open. The moment the two people on the bed turned towards me, my legs gave way and I dropped limp to the ground, my hands over my mouth.
Heartbreaking sobs left my lips and travelled across the room no matter how muffled they were. My legs felt numb and my stomach churned baldy. But no pain surmounted to the one I felt in my heart. It was like I had been stabbed with a dagger severally.
“Why does she look like that? You didn’t tell her?” Matilda, barely clad and hidden by the sheets sneered at me with my mate inside her.
David’s fucking dick was inside of my half-sister.
And he wasn’t even pulling out. No. My David didn’t even look like he fucking cared if I died on the spot. He looked more annoyed than remorseful right now.
“I must be dreaming.” I shut my eyes, not wanting to see the horrifying sight before me. “Please David, tell me I’m dreaming. Tell me this is not real…”
“Get lost Elena. What rights do you have baring into my room at the late hours of the night?” He finally pulled away, not even cladding himself before he approached me and roughly pulled me up from the floor. “Leave! Are you deaf?”
“She probably came with the intention of eloping with you again.” Matilda chuckled, clearly enjoying herself at my demise. Our eyes met and a sinister gaze was directed towards me.
My eyes met his hardened ones. Those eyes which had looked at me with unrequited love and admiration held nothing but hate and respite as he looked down on me, his grip on my arm tight.
“You told her?”
“You have always been dumber that you looked Elena, but tonight, you proved to be the dumbest person I’ve ever had to encounter. Did you really think I was going to run away, leaving my whole life behind just to be with a wolfless weak bitch like you,” He chuckled and Matilda laughed along with him.
My face heated in embarrassment. His words felt like knifes piercing my hearts and tears rolled down my cheeks in waves.
“I thought we were mates David. I loved you.”
“You were of no use to me. You couldn’t even get the crown. That’s just how useless you are, and I can’t be with someone as useless as you. It was obvious from the start who was going to be Alpha. Although I still didn’t want to stake my chances, it has been a waste of time.”
My horrified eyes stared from him to Matilda and back again, and it was then I Realized.
This wasn’t their first time.
In fact they had been doing this behind my back while I had made a total fool of myself believing someone in this whole world actually cared about me.
“David please… what do you want me to do with all these pent u love. I love you so much.” My heart bleed and my eyes were filled with tears. “David Please. Please don’t toss what we have across the window just for…”
“What a joke!” He chuckled just before he tossed me outside his door. I groaned in pain as my back slammed to the wall just before I dropped to the door. A surge of pain and regret travelled though my whole body as I struggled to stand. “Go fuck yourself, Elena.”
“I, David Cunningham, son of Beta Royce reject you as my mate, Elena Barnes.”

One thing I know: now is the time.
