Introduction

Emily Davis, a new actress, is forced into a contractual relationship with Damien Miller because he threatens to release a video that could destroy her career. She has to take the place of Damien's wife so that the billionaire can take revenge on Victoria's family, who he believes are responsible for his wife's accident.
Playing a person is easy, because that's Emily's specialty.
But what happens when Emily falls in love with Damien because of the way he treats her? Can Emily end her contract relationship with Damien without getting her heart broken? What if Damien likes her too?

Chapter 1

“I’m leaving,” Emily said trying to remain calm. She felt her eyes heating up again.

“Thank you for everything.” Emily bit her lip to hold back the words that wanted to come out. She wanted the feeling to stay in her heart.

“I like you.” The two words came out with tears rolling down Emily’s cheeks. In the end she couldn’t keep those feelings in. Damien was surprised to hear that. All this time he thought Emily didn’t like him because she was acting casual after they almost had intercourse.

“Goodbye.” Emily said. She didn’t get any sign that he would reply her feeling. The girl turned around and walked towards the elevator. She imagined that Damien would prevent her from leaving like in the movie. However, that was only in Emily’s mind because Damien didn’t move even an inch from his spot. Their contract was finished with Lucia taking a liking to the guy.

“What an ignorant child!” A middle-aged woman yelled at a young woman in the lobby of a five-star hotel.

“You forgot about your family after making it as an actress. I can’t believe I raised an unfilial child like you!” Belinda Davis, the girl’s mother said these hurtful words. It had been three years since Emily Davis left their home. She cut off communication and disappeared.

Mrs. Davis was shocked when her neighbor said Emily was on television. Of course that made Belinda upset. Her daughter had gotten a role in movie, but she hadn’t told her anything. Belinda would have been embarrassed for her neighbors if she hadn’t lied that Emily had told them.

Emily was dumbfounded by her mother’s sudden arrival. How did Belinda know she was here? No matter what Emily thought, it was impossible for Belinda to know about her. Their family does not subscribe to movie streaming services. Emily already thought that she would never see her former family again. That’s right, former family. Emily had had enough of the family that always used her.

“You live in this luxurious hotel, while we live in a miserable house,” Belinda was still eager to let her anger out.

“Do you know I owe the neighbor money so your sister could go to school? We’re starving too, Emily!” Belinda Davis deliberately raised her voice to let Emily’s fans know the nature of the new actress they called gentle as an angel. What angel, Emily looks more like a demoness. That child must have sold herself to become an actress. The public has been fooled by her innocent face.

“Mother,” Emily tried to calm down. Her mother’s actions alone had attracted people’s attention, if she replied to her mother’s words, it would only make Belinda even more driven to swear at her. Emily’s eyes moved to the right and then left, she found that someone was filming them. Emily grimaced inwardly. Her career just starting, the girl didn't want to make trouble.

“We can talk outside.” Emily took Belinda’s hand, but the middle-aged woman shook it away.

“You won’t show me where you live?” Belinda glared at her. Had it not been for a fan spreading the video of Emily checking into the hotel, Belinda would not have gotten here. She would not have known Emily was living in luxury.

“I don’t live here,” Emily said quietly. She had to get her mother to a quiet place immediately. That man had recorded enough of her and Belinda.

“I’m working. There was a product that wanted to use me as a model. We did a photo shoot here,” Emily explained to her mother.

“Working, huh?” Belinda looked at Emily appraisingly.

“Then give me your salary,” the woman raised her hands. It was always like this. Emily looked at her mother flatly. The girl no longer had the slightest expectation from Belinda. She hadn’t done that in a long time. Until the end of time, Emily would never hear a word of praise come out of her mother’s mouth. For Belinda, praise was a forbidden word for her to say to Emily.

“I have no money.” The next second Emily closed her eyes as she felt the pain in her cheek. The receptionist who was checking guests in noticed them as well as the guest in front of her. Now they had the attention of everyone in the lobby.

“Instead of offering to eat, you tricked me?” Belinda gave Emily an angry look.

“You are so heartless!” Belinda pulled Emily’s hair hard.

“You’re wearing fancy clothes now. Do you think I believe you?” The girl closed her eyes tightly. She must not cry. She had shed enough tears because of her mother.

“Your father doesn’t work anymore! Did you know?” Belinda pulled out her signature weapon. Usually Emily would melt down if Belinda mentioned her father.

“He’s sick and here you are having fun!” The commotion continued. No one tried to break them. The hotel guests just watched. Emily and Belinda’s fight was like a morning soap opera.

A luxury car pulled up right at the entrance of the hotel. Branded loafers treaded on the asphalt as soon as the car door was opened. The man who got out of the car immediately received a bow from the hotel employees. However, it was different with the employees inside the hotel. The bellboy standing near the entrance cursed inwardly as he saw the owner of the hotel walk over. The bellboy turned his attention to the drama unfolding in the lobby. The drama was exciting, but it had to stop now. He bowed respectfully as the door opened automatically.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Miller.” The bellboy greeted. His heart skipped a beat as soon as his eyes saw Damien Grissham Miller, the man who gave him the job, stopped not far from him. Mr. Miller must be furious to have such cheap drama going on in his hotel. The bellboy thought.

“Why did you let that happen here?” Damien said in a low tone and looked sharply at the bellboy. What were the security doing outside? They just stood by and let the fight happen in his hotel. Damien didn’t pay them for that.

“We’ll take care of it, Sir.” The bellboy immediately called security to handle the drama in the lobby.

Damien sighed as security rushed into the hotel and tried to separate the middle-aged woman who was arguing with a woman much younger than her.

“Which room is the meeting in?” Damien asked his assistant, Austin Wright. His eyes did not leave the girl who was now leaving for the park in hurry.

“Meeting room one, Sir.” Austin replied. He looked at Damien who had been scanning the lobby with his eagle eyes. The man found one person looking at his cell phone with a satisfied face. Damien walked quickly towards the man wearing the black hat. He took his cell phone before the man put his phone in his pants pocket. Damien looked at the video the man had recorded for a while and then put it into his pocket.

“Take care of this guy,” Damien asked Austin who was already beside him.

“Make sure anyone who saw this incident keeps their mouth shut.” Damien didn’t want his hotel’s name to be tarnished because of the two women’s fight.

“Yes, Sir.” Austin replied. He looked confused as his boss took off his suit. What did Damien want to do? The man hated looking untidy. Damien handed Austin his suit which he immediately accepted despite feeling strange at his boss’s behavior.

“Where’s my coffee?” asked Damien as he raised his right hand and Austin reflexively handed his boss’s coffee.

“I’ll go straight to meeting room one later. You take care of this incident. Make sure the people who saw what happened in the lobby keep their mouths shut.” Damien left after giving that order to his personal assistant. Austin Wright watched Damien leave with his eyebrows knitted together. Where was his boss going? How strange. The meeting with the General Managers of Miller Enterprise’s subsidiary hotels would start in twenty minutes.

Emily wiped her tears roughly. She hated her life at a time like this. The girl didn’t ask for anything grandiose. Emily just wanted a family that would always support her, not be leeches that kept sucking her blood until it ran out. Why didn’t they stop bothering Emily? The girl felt that she had never caused her parents any trouble. She had been earning money since middle school. She didn’t pay tuition because she got a scholarship. Why couldn’t they leave Emily alone? Let alone Belinda Davis, why was that woman always trying to ruin her achievements?

The girl covered her face with both hands. She remembered the people who witnessed the embarrassing events in her life. Emily’s

body trembled at the thought of the person who recorded the incident in the lobby. Just now she was feeling happy because she was starting to be recognized, and then there was an incident like this. Now the video must have spread. Emily sobbed. Her career had just started, but she already had negative news. Emily wanted her career to be colored with achievements. From a bystander’s perspective, she would be considered a child who abandoned her family.

“Don’t hold back,” the heavy voice made Emily open the hand covering her face. She looked up, finding a man looking at her with a flat expression.

When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.

Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."

But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.

Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

A Lesson in Magic

One day I'm dealing with cranky toddlers and parents who work too much to actually parent, the next my life is turned upside down and I'm working in a bar for supernaturals. I might not know how to mix drinks, but strangely enough the skills needed to deal with misbehaving children seem to work well enough on vampires, werewolves and even witches. The good news is this job is interesting and hey, my boss might be a demon but I'm pretty sure that under all the grumpy expressions he is a total softie. The bad news is that humans aren't supposed to know about all this magic stuff and so now I'm magically bound to this bar until I can convince them that I won't go telling everyone. Or I die, whichever comes first. Sadly dying is seeming more and more likely because someone is after me. I don't know who or why but they are dangerous and they have magic. So I'll domy best to survive, and if that means spending some extra time with my scary but gorgeous boss then so be it. I'll convince him to trust me if it's the last thing I do.
