Introduction

"You don’t even know who I am," Adrianna whispered.
Dante smirked. "I know enough. And I know I want you."
"You are going to get us killed."
"Then, let's die together."
She should have walked away then. But the moment she did, the world would tilt again, unraveling secrets buried in blood, science, and betrayal.

Adrianna thought moving to Italy would be a fresh start—a chance to connect with the family she never knew. But when she falls for Dante, the son of her family’s sworn enemy, their love ignites a war neither of them is ready for. Worse, her past is catching up to her. The failed experiment that saved her life is now tearing her apart, and the only man who can help is the same monster who destroyed her childhood.

With time running out and babies on the way, Adrianna must make an impossible choice—fight for the life growing inside her or surrender to the chaos threatening to consume her.

Enemies. Family. Love. And the kind of power that destroys everything in its path.

Chapter 1

I try moving but the crack I hear in my bones stop me. The kick I received on my ribs weren't pretty but I didn't think it was bad enough to hinder my movements. It wasn't like the others.

I debated killing them as I unwrapped the bandage around my stomach, but remembered that they were my parents, then again if they didn't want me why did they bring me to this world to kill me?

"Fuck!" My body protested when I reached for the sweatshirt on my bed and put it on.

I don't have a phone to check the time so I carefully walk down the stairs to the living room. The old clock on the wall said 5 am, meaning I have just 30 minutes to make their food and clean the mess they created the day before. I wouldn't want to add to the beating I just received last night.

I quickly make toast for them. I also sneak two toasts into the back pocket. I rush to my room to eat them and prepare for hell.. Sorry, school.

I enter the little bathroom and look at my self in the mirror. A part of me is slightly revolted at the sight.

My left eye which is purple is shining brightly despite the lack of light in the bathroom. My right eye is a dull green colour. I wash up and wear a jean under my sweat shirt.

I heard grumbles from my dad downstairs and took that as my cue to leave through the window.

I grab my backpack and put my two toasts into it.

As soon as I open my small window, he starts banging on my door. It's now or never.

I fall on the grass badly and scrape my knee. Curving my hand around my ribs, I limp out of the yard.

I jump out of window and run down the street to catch the bus.

It is at times like this that I wish I have a headset to block out the noise. As I enter the bus, everywhere goes quiet except for the snickers as I walk further into the bus looking for a seat.

I keep up my tough front if not I will end up getting bullied by entitled brats.

I finally see an empty seat at the back and seat down, not caring at the person right beside me.

They all start shifting away from me and I give them a smile..

"Thank you for the extra space guys". I give them my most creepy smile. Their terrified look gives me intense joy.

I'll be damned if I let myself get trampled on in school too. Thankfully, this is my last year then I'll leave and go to another state.

I applied to University of Houston and I'm currently awaiting a reply. Hopefully, they get back to me soon.

Two minutes into the bus ride, I start feeling cold. After rubbing my arms, which does not really have an effect, I remember that I have a hoodie in my bag.

I open the bag and take out my hoodie. Throwing it on, I wrap hands around myself willing this nightmare of a day to be over already.

Soon enough, the bus comes to a halt and everyone starts trooping out. I wait for everyone else to leave before coming down.

"Freak"

"She's really weird"

"Are you seeing her eyes?"

"bitch!"

I put up my hoodie and raise my head high, daring anyone to look me in the eyes as I walk into the school. Almost immediately, the path I was about to walk on was cleared. Yes guys! The queen is here.

Pfft! As if I care. I adjust the strap of my bag properly on my shoulder and walk to my locker.

Just as I am about to shut it, my favourite blue-eyed specie puts her hand inside.

I turn around to see my best friend, Lily Lane, who is the opposite of her name. Well, the word to describe Lily is persistent. Let's just say that if she was not consistently annoying, we would have never been best friends today.

I still remember how we met till this day.

It was first day of middle school and I had walked into class nervous as hell.

When the teacher introduced me in front of the class, all the kids had looked so terrified that they even made me so scared that I thought there was a monster behind me. I didn't know I was the monster.

So kid was willing to share a desk with me and just when I was about to cry, Lily has tapped on my shoulder and asked me to share with her.

For the next two months, we grew a routine of her, endlessly talking and me, forced to listen. She didn't hear my voice for more than two months.

I was eventually forced to speak one day. Lily had already become the best part of my day. I was being abused at home without mercy and Lily was the only one that made me feel seen. She would always bring snacks for me.

She told me that she was adopted but her adoptive parents have always adored her. I always wondered why my biological parents treated me like trash.

I never told Lily about the abuse. Still haven't. I know how broken she will be but she can't do anything about it and I know it will crush her.

We were in our second year of middle school when she heard my voice for the first time. Some girls had tripped me and as usual, she was the one who stood up for me.

They had pushed her to the ground and for the first time in my life, I felt that now familiar emotion. Anger.

It's safe to say that the kids spent a week in the hospital from bruises. No one could believe it was a kid who had done that to them but when they saw my eyes, the hate intensified.

Considering I went to the same middle school as most of the people in this school, they brought the hate and rumours here.

As soon as I shut my locker, she hooks her arm through mine. She shows me a mischievous smile that only means choas and I reciprocate with one of mine.

Let the day begin...

Some days later, they sent me to the operating room.

Dad said, "Yvonne will finally be saved. We're so proud of you."

Mom said, "After the surgery, we'll make it up to you."

Gilbert looked tenderly at Yvonne and said, "When you're better, where should we travel?"

"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."

When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.

My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.

Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."

But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.

Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
