Chapter 1
Desiree's POV
“I, Lysander James, reject you, Desiree Peters as my mate. I cut off all ties and I want nothing to do with you!”
My head spun.
My mate and the love of my life just rejected me. In front of everyone. I felt strings of shame as I stared at everyone's face and saw their quiet smirks.
He shamed me. Most especially in front of my bully, Chloe Dubois.
As if that was not enough, they called each other, “mate,” and he pulled her close to share a passionate kiss.
Students in the hall clapped and cheered.
Out of shame, I turned around and ran to the bathroom. My life was over.
The stall door shuddered. Someone from outside kept kicking. Laughter, sharp and shrill, pierced the thin metal door between me and them.
“Come on out, little mouse,” Chloe’s voice sang, filled with scorn. “We just want to see your face. I want to see if you’re crying over my new boyfriend.”
I pressed my palms against my ears, squeezing my eyes shut. This afternoon's experience burned on the back of my eyelids
Was this really happening?
Ugh!! I’d run. Of course I’d run. What else does a mouse do?
The kicking stopped. “Whatever. She’s not worth it,” Chloe said, her voice receding. “She has no wolf, no power. She's just useless. Thank the goddess Lysander finally woke up.”
Their footsteps echoed away, leaving only the drip of a leaky tap and the frantic hammer of my heart.
I waited five full minutes, counting each breath, before I pushed the stall door open.
My reflection in the smudged mirror was a mess: pale, tear-tracked, eyes wide with a humiliation so complete it felt like a physical weight.
I splashed water on my face, but it didn’t help.
I was sick and tired of my smallish nature.
In a school filled with shifters, psychics, and elementals– being utterly, completely ordinary was a curse. And Lysander protected me from bullying and scorn, he’d been my rock, until an hour ago.
I slipped into the hallway, my head down, hugging my books to my chest like armor.
I turned to see if Chloe was still there. Good. The hall was clear.
“Well, look who finally emerged.”
My blood went cold. Chloe leaned against a row of lockers, flanked by two friends. They’d waited for me to come out.
“Did you have a good cry in there?” Chloe pushed off the lockers, blocking my path. “We could hear you sniffling all the way out here. It sounded pathetic.”
“Just leave me alone, Chloe.”
“Why? It’s not like you can do anything about it.” Mira, Chloe’s friend, flicked a finger. A tiny, controlled breeze yanked at my hair. “You have nothing, no wolf lurking inside even though your parents are wolves. You’re just human. How did you even get into this school?”
“Probably charity,” the other girl sneered.
“Or, even better,” they mocked. “Her mother probably sucked and hopped on the principal's dick to secure admission for her child.”
I tried to step around them, but Chloe sidestepped, crowding me. “Lysander looks so happy with his real mate. You must feel so stupid. All those months he was just slumming it.”
Lysander just stood at the corner, watching. He watched them hurt me and say bad words to me!
He didn't care to stop them. And then, in a split second, he was gone!
I felt a slice through my heart as my world crumbled into sharp, glittering pieces. The last of my dignity evaporated.
Chloe saw it too, and her smile turned vicious. “Not even your ex-knight wants to get dirty for you. You’re truly alone, Desiree.”
A sob ripped its way out of my throat. I didn’t wait for more.
I began to run, refusing to stop till my lungs felt like they were on fire. I wiped my face, gulping air. I didn't want to use the bus. I wanted to quit school forever. I wanted to go home and hide my face.
The sky, which had been a sullen grey all day, was beginning to deepen into a bruised purple.
The wind picked up, hugging at my clothes and whipping my hair into a frenzy. Above, the clouds churned.
“Just my luck,” I muttered, breaking into a jog.
The storm exploded with unnatural speed and it rained everywhere.
‘Could today get any worse? Ugh!!’
I began to run and a monstrous gust of wind lifted me off my feet. I screamed, tumbling through the air.
I landed hard on my back, the breath knocked out of me.
Blinking rain from my eyes, I suddenly saw myself in front of our porch.
How…?
As if in answer, the sky directly above me ignited. A bolt of lightning, pure, blinding white, forked down from the heavens. It didn’t strike a tree. It didn’t hit the lightning rod. It arrowed straight on me!
Surprisingly, I didn't feel any pain. My abdomen only tingled, goosebumps hit my body and suddenly….I felt dizzy.
I saw white, then black…. then nothing!!!
I groaned awake. Every nerve felt scraped raw, humming with a strange, residual energy.
“Desi?” Elena, my sister was by my side.
“Oh, thank the goddess. You’re awake. Don’t try to move. The doctor said you might have a concussion. You were struck, or nearly struck by lightning. We found you on the porch.”
“The air,” I croaked, my throat dry. “It picked me up and threw me.”
“I know. Drink this.” Elena held a glass of water to my lips. As I drank, I became aware of a strange clarity.
The room was suddenly too sharp.
I could see the individual weave of the blanket, the tiny cracks in the plaster near the ceiling. A mosquito landed on my sister, sucking her blood and I could see it, clearly, as if my eyes were a microscope.
I could also miraculously hear clearly.
Not just Elena’s relieved breathing, but the frantic heartbeat of a sparrow outside the window.
I could even hear the mice squeaking in the shoebox three rooms away. What was happening? I began to fear for my life!! This was overwhelming.
“Elena, my ears feel weird.”
“Your ears?” Elena asked as she touched them. “They look fine, honey. You took a bad fall.”
But they didn’t feel fine.
They felt…painful.
My fingers met not the soft curve of my earlobe, only to meet a very solid and pointy tip.
I sat bolt upright, ignoring the wave of dizziness. “Mirror. I need a mirror.”
“Desi, wait–”
I scrambled out of bed, stumbling to Elena’s vanity. I gripped the edges, leaning in.
My face, pale and smudged with exhaustion, stared back. But it wasn’t my face, not quite.
My eyes held a bluish and bolder look to it. Almost gold color.
My skin had a sort of blue tint to it…..
And my ears, they swept up just slightly, ending in delicate, unmistakable points.
“Noooo!!! What?!”

His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride
Yet Alexander made his decision clear to the world: “Evelyn is the only woman I will ever marry.”
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
Oops, Wrong Girl to Bully
My back hit the desk. Pain exploded through my skull.
"Girls like you don't get to dream about guys like Kai." Bella's breath was hot on my face. "You don't get to write pathetic love letters."
She shoved me again. Harder.
"Maybe if you weren't such a desperate little—"
I fell. My head cracked against the corner.
Warmth trickled down my neck. Blood.
Their laughter turned to gasps.
The door slammed.
I tried to stand. Couldn't. The room was spinning, fading to black.
