Introduction
Infiltrating the life of paranoid CEO Arthur Vance for my final, lucrative heist should be easy. But before I can steal his files, a stranger arrives using my birth name, systematically erasing my existence and framing me for murder.
My stalker, Julian, is a ruthless fixer who knows every secret I’ve buried. He thinks I’m his pawn. I refuse to be his prey. In a deadly game of lies, hunter and hunted must unite—or burn together.
Chapter 1
Clara POV
Rule number one of long-term survival: never inhabit a skin you can’t shed in under ninety seconds.
For the last eight months, my skin had been Elena Vance—a polished, razor-sharp corporate strategist with an elite Swiss background, impeccably tailored silk wardrobe, and zero personal history prior to five years ago. To Arthur Vance, I was the brilliant, indispensable mind helping him finalize a multi-billion-dollar bio-tech routing protocol.
To the rest of the world, I didn't exist. Clara Sterling had been dead and buried for a decade.
High above the central atrium of the Grand Connaught Hotel, the air in the private suite’s bathroom smelled faintly of jasmine and damp marble. I reached beneath the hem of my midnight-blue silk skirt, peeling back a strip of medical tape on my inner thigh to retrieve a razor-thin, encrypted satellite comm-link.
I turned the heavy gold faucets full blast. Water cascaded into the porcelain basin, creating a steady, low rumble designed to drown out the acoustic room mics Arthur had hidden inside the ventilation grating.
My fingers flew across the comm-link’s glass interface. I bypassed Arthur’s localized signal jammers, tapped into the hotel’s internal network, and brought up the live, high-definition security feeds monitoring the ground-floor lounge.
Everything was running on schedule. Arthur was currently across the hall in the VIP holding room, rehearsing his keynote speech for tonight’s international summit. His security detail was stationed at every elevator bank. In less than two hours, I would access the local server terminals, execute the data extraction, wipe the Elena Vance persona clean from every global registry, and disappear to a beach in Costa Rica with forty million dollars in untraceable bearer bonds.
A clean heist. A perfect exit.
I cycled through the lounge cameras, routinely checking the perimeter.
Camera four swept across the amber-lit private booths near the back mahogany bar. I tapped the screen, freezing the frame on a corner table.
Sitting beneath the warm glow of a recessed lamp was a man in an immaculate charcoal suit. He wasn't looking at a phone, nor was he scanning the room with the clumsy, hyper-vigilant authority of Arthur’s corporate guards. He sat perfectly relaxed, casually twirling a sleek silver fountain pen between his long fingers as he took a slow sip of neat whiskey.
Cold. Composed. Lethally out of place.
He didn't fit any profile on Arthur’s guest list. He didn't look like a buyer, a diplomat, or a journalist.
He looked like an executioner waiting for a signal.
My chest tightened, a quiet instinct honed by ten years on the run whispering that something in the air had just shifted. I adjusted the digital zoom, magnifying his face. Sharp jaw, striking gray eyes, and a faint, faded scar running along his left temple.
As if feeling the weight of my gaze through miles of fiber-optic cable, the man slowly lifted his head.
He looked directly into the lens of Camera Four.
He didn't flinch. He didn't look away. A slow, razor-sharp smirk spread across his features. Keeping his gray eyes locked onto the glass lens, he lifted his whiskey glass in a quiet, deliberate toast.
He knows I'm watching.
Before I could kill the feed, my comm-link vibrated violent red in my palm. The interface flickered, red lines of code cascading across the screen as my security protocols collapsed like a house of cards.

The water in the basin kept running, but the temperature in the room dropped to absolute zero.
My real name—a name I hadn't spoken, written, or seen on a screen in ten years—was flashing across my encrypted device in bright, blood-red light.
