THE SECOND LIFE OF ELARA VAUGHN
Ruth Clement · Ongoing · 150.9k Words
Introduction
Just moments before, she had watched in horror as Kurt, her fiancé, and Vera, her best friend, slaughtered her parents right in front of her eyes. They laughed at her agony, mocking the Queen of the business world as she bled out on the dirty warehouse floor. "I will make sure I crush you both in my next life!" she swore with her last breath.
But death was not the end.
"Wake up! Do you know how important this is?!"
Elara jerked awake, not in hell, but in a luxury car. She looked in the mirror and screamed—the face staring back wasn't hers. She was now Aria Beaumont, a despised country bumpkin. And she was on her way to be a substitute bride for a paralyzed, comatose man.
Who is the groom? Lucian Graves. Her former greatest rival.
She smirked, her green eyes flashing with a new, dangerous light. "Fine. I'll use the Graves' power to destroy those who killed me." She walked into the bridal chamber, ready to face a vegetable husband. But as her fingers brushed his eyelashes... Blue-green eyes suddenly flew open.
The comatose billionaire was awake. And he was looking at her with a hunger that terrified her.
Chapter 1
Chapter One
"Splash!"
Elara jerked awake, gasping weakly as the icy cold water hit her skin.
She shook her head trying to clear the groggy feeling that came from exhaustion, pain and regret.
Her eyes were blurry, but she could still make out her surroundings as she slowly came into focus.
Elara realized with a sinking feeling that she was still held captive in that godforsaken warehouse, tied to the same chair that she'd been in for the past three days.
She had not had water or food pass her lips for those three days, courtesy of the devils who were standing before her at the moment.
To her left, stood the tall form of Kurt Eugene.
Her fiance.
The Devil's advocate.
The one who had kidnapped her and tortured her for the past three days.
Elara's hands tightened into fists, wishing she could slam it down in his face and hear the satisfying crunch of it, but she could only feel the pain of the ropes binding her, tearing into her skin instead.
She stopped struggling and glared at him instead, itching to wipe his disgusting smirk off his face.
In his arms, clinging to him affectionately was her best friend of seven years, Vera Hale. Elara's eyes smarted with tears as she recalled her shock when she discovered Vera and Kurt were together.
Not only had they had her kidnapped, but they had successfully siphoned all the assets under the Vaughn Group in her name, and took control of the Empire.
Elara could not believe that the two people whom she trusted the most would do something like that to her.
Vera also had an identical smirk on her face, but she decided to take things further and walked towards Elara.
She reached out and grabbed a fistful of Elara's hair, yanking it backwards so the pain sent tears spilling out of Elara's eyes.
"Ahh!" She cried out involuntarily, then glared at Vera, "Let go of me, you traitorous bitch!"
Vera was unfazed by the insult as she chuckled devilishly, "Poor Elara." She crooned in mockery, "Who would have thought the Queen of the business world would be at my mercy now, begging for her life?"
Elara scoffed, her laughter coming out dey and raspy, "Me? Beg you? In your wildest dream, Vera Hale," she uttered through gritted teeth, "I will never stoop so low as to beg the likes of you. You can do nothing more than the dead rat that you are!"
As she spoke, she turned her head to glare at Kurt as well, making it clear that she was speaking to both of them.
This was true.
Elara was determined never to beg them for her life. She knew they wanted to strip her of every last dignity that she had, but she would not give them the satisfaction of that.
Vera's smile faltered and her face turned vicious,"Elara, you stupid bitch!" She was trembling so hard, it looked like she was going to explode, "The likes of me, huh?! I will show you what the likes of me can do!"
She had seen the disgust on Elara's face when she had spoken earlier, and Vera assumed she was bringing up her background.
Being and orphan and moved from one foster home to another, Vera was deeply insecure and jealous of Elara, who was a billionaore heiress.
Not only that, Elara had the best upbringing and had made a name and status for herself in business globally.
Vera wanted everything Elara had so she set out to get them, stealing Elara's fiance and her wealth from her, and all the while Elara trusted herself a blind fool.
She had thought Elara would be broken by now. She wanted to see the oh-so-mighty queen of the business world grovel at her feet.
But Elara still remained defiant, even after beaten and tortured for three days.
It was driving Vera nuts!
She twisted Elara's hair harder and raised her hand to hit her. Elara continued glaring at her defiantly, despite the pull on her scalp which made her want to scream from pain.
However, Vera paused with her hand in mid air, when Kurt suddenly held on to it.
"Pumpkin, you will hurt yourself," he said softly, his gaze dripping with so much affection as he drew Vera into his arms, "She's not worth it."
Vera immediately launched into his arms with exaggerated movements, trying to make Elara more jealous.
"Let's just kill her and get it over with!" She exclaimed, pouting in a cure manner while her huge eyes became wet with tears, "I can't stand her, babe."
The whole scene made Elara want to puke, and she rolled her eyes away.
The fact that Kurt referred to Vera with the same nickname he reserved for her, made her skin crawl. She clenched her fists, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over her eyes.
Kill her?
They've both got to be delusional.
Her parents were arriving from their international trip today. If they discovered she was missing, they would raise hell until she was found.
As a Billionaire heiress, actions would have been taken to look for her immediately her absence was noticed three days ago.
But the two persons who were supposed to raise the alarm, her fiance and bestfriend were the perpertrators, so there was no chance of that.
Elara only had to wait for her parents to come save her, and when they did, these two fools are going to get back whatever they did to her.
A hundred fold!
She looked away from them defiantly, aware that they were trying to get a rise out of her.
But her feelings for Kurt had died the day he hit her cruelly over the head and had her tied up.
The only thing she felt for him now was burning hatred.
"Take your sickening act from my sight," she said coldly, her head raised regally, "And stop deluding yourself thinking you can kill me? You think you will get away with such act? You think my parents won't have you both skinned alive?!"
Kurt and Vera did not even flinch at her threats. Instead, they exchanged knowing looks then laughed in mockery.
Elara ignored them, "The Vaughn family is not to be messed with so easily," she uttered, "Even if you let me go now, you will get what's coming to you in full!"
"The Vaughn family, eh." Kurt finally replied, his voice a lazy drawl. He walked towards Elara and gripped her chin tightly, forcing her to look at him, "Well, why don't we have them join us? Since you so badly want to see them."
He pushed her head away from him, and before Elara could realize what was going on, her parents were brought in by some thugs.
The men flung them to the floor hard, and they laid there, bloodied and unmoving.

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
New to the world of shifters, Draven is human on the run. A beautiful girl who no one could protect. Domonic is the cold Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack. A brotherhood of twelve wolves that live by twelve rules. Rules which they vowed could NEVER be broken.

But she doesn’t know about the child she’s carrying or that the moment she left, Domonic decided rules were made to be broken - and now will he ever find her again? Will she forgive him?
Alpha Twins' Mate's broken Human
A Lesson in Magic
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
The Forbidden Throb
Mine changed in the time it took to open a door.
Behind it: my fiancé Nicholas with another woman.
Three months until our wedding. Three seconds to watch it all burn.
I should have run. Should have screamed. Should have done anything except stand there like a fool.
Instead, I heard the devil himself whisper in my ear:
"If you're willing, I could marry you."
Daniel. The brother I was warned about. The one who made Nicholas look like a choir boy.
He leaned against the wall, watching my world implode.
My pulse thundered. "What?"
"You heard me." His eyes burned into mine. "Marry me, Emma."
But as I stared into those magnetic eyes, I realized something terrifying:
I wanted to say yes to him.
Game on.
The Biker Alpha Who Became My Second Chance Mate
"You're like a sister to me."
Those were the actual words that broke the camel's back.
Not after what just happened. Not after the hot, breathless, soul-shaking night we spent tangled in each other's arms.
I knew from the beginning that Tristan Hayes was a line I shouldn't cross.
He wasn't just anyone, he was my brother's best friend. The man I spent years secretly wanting.
But that night... we were broken. We had just buried our parents. And the grief was too heavy, too real...so I begged him to touch me.
To make me forget. To fill the silence that death left behind.
And he did. He held me like I was something fragile.
Kissed me like I was the only thing he needed to breathe.
Then left me bleeding with six words that burned deeper than rejection ever could.
So, I ran. Away from everything that cost me pain.
Now, five years later, I'm back.
Fresh from rejecting the mate who abused me. Still carrying the scars of a pup I never got to hold.
And the man waiting for me at the airport isn't my brother.
It's Tristan.
And he's not the guy I left behind.
He's a biker.
An Alpha.
And when he looked at me, I knew there was no where else to run to.
Accidentally Crossing the Tycoon
Four years ago, the Bailey family faced a devastating financial crisis.
Just when bankruptcy seemed inevitable, a mysterious benefactor emerged, offering salvation with one condition: a contract marriage.
Rumors swirled about this enigmatic man—whispers claimed he was hideously ugly and too ashamed to show his face, possibly harboring dark, twisted obsessions.
Without hesitation, the Baileys sacrificed me to protect their precious biological daughter, forcing me to take her place as a pawn in this cold, calculated arrangement.
Luckily, in those four years, the mysterious husband never asked to meet in person.
Now, in the final year of our arrangement, the husband I've never met is demanding we meet face to face.
But disaster struck the night before my return—drunk and disoriented, I stumbled into the wrong hotel room and ended up sleeping with the legendary financial mogul, Caspar Thornton.
What the hell am I supposed to do now?
The Biker's Fate
I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Dani," he pressed. "Do you get me?"
"No, Austin, I don't," I admitted as I pulled my robe closed again and sat up. "You confuse me."
He dragged his hands down his face. "Tell me what's on your mind."
I sighed. "You're everything my parents warned me against. You're secretive, but you're also honest. I feel wholly protected by you, but then you scare me more than anyone I've ever known. You're a bad boy, but when I dated a so-called good one, he turned out to be the devil, so, yeah, I don't get you because you're not what I expected. You drive me crazier than anyone I've ever met, but then you make me feel complete. I'm feeling things I don't quite know how to process and that makes me want to run. I don't want to give up something that might be really, really good, but I also don't want to be stupid and fall for a boy just because he's super pretty and makes me come."
Danielle Harris is the daughter of an overprotective police chief and has led a sheltered life. As a kindergarten teacher, she's as far removed from the world of Harleys and bikers as you could get, but when she's rescued by the sexy and dangerous Austin Carver, her life is changed forever.
