Introduction

Adrik and I took over one of the couches on the plane. We hadn’t slept very much the night before, but neither one of us could fully take the blame. I think I woke him up just as many times as he woke me up.

Only now we were both nervous for me to meet Adrik’s father. He was nervous because his father could be a very gruff man and he was worried he would say something that would offend me. I was worried that his father would find some reason to not like me. We were both acting like children worrying over nothing, but neither one of us could stop.


Sephie, named for the Queen of the Underworld, Persephone, she's quickly finding out how she's destined to fulfill her namesake's role. Adrik is the King of the Underworld, the boss of all bosses in the city he runs.

She was a seemingly normal girl, with a normal job until it all changed one night when he walked through the front door and her life changed abruptly. Now, she finds herself on the wrong side of powerful men, but under the protection of the most powerful among them.

Chapter 1

Prologue

Sephie’s life changed forever the night she first laid eyes on the mysterious, and anonymous, mafia boss – Lord King Boss? Still feels right – Lord King Boss, Adrik, that essentially kidnapped her in order to keep her safe from one of the other boss’s sons, Anthony. At the direction of his father, along with the other bosses in the city, he got carried away in distracting the Lord King Boss from handing down punishments for the bosses becoming too greedy in his absence.

Now surrounded by five of the largest bodyguards ever, Sephie soon endears herself to each of them. While Adrik knew he loved her the second he saw her in the restaurant that night, a few of his bodyguards take a little more work to convince. They soon discover that her light shines so brightly that they can’t help but be drawn to her.

As her neighbor, Ms. Jackson, told Adrik, “she’ll show you the best parts of you, if you let her.”

Sephie helps each of them deal with past traumas, all while helping them to level up in this life. They soon discover that Sephie has a knack for finding those parts of each of them that need attention and she shines a light directly on the darkest parts of them, showing them those dark parts deserve to be loved. They help her see that not everyone deserves a chance to be in your life. Relationships are a give and take, not strictly take. With each small lesson, they grow, they heal, their connections deepen.

As they uncover an intricate plot to overthrow Adrik and take over the city, they also discover that they’re not exactly what anyone would call a normal human. Each bodyguard, along with Sephie and Adrik discover that there’s something special about them. They each have gifts that will serve them well in what’s to come. Each gift complements the group and makes them stronger as a whole.

With a healthy dose of humor, the guys help Sephie step into her own just as much as she helps each of them. Her love for Adrik grows stronger each day and her connection to the guys is strengthened each time they survive situations that would cripple most people.

Their one ally, Trino, is in danger of being overthrown when Sephie and Misha see the plot being enacted against him. They get him to leave Colombia in time to save his life, as well as to see his dying mother one last time. Now, Adrik has enlisted the help of his estranged father to get Trino to safety…
