Introduction
My sister, the "real" daughter of my wealthy adoptive family, found the necklace. She stole my secret, claimed she was the woman from that night, and proudly paraded around as his new girlfriend.
She had already taken my parents and my fiancé. Now, she wanted to crush me at work, ordering me to step aside while she played the future Mrs. Ford.
"Don't even think about stealing him, Wendy. You're just a fake," she sneered.
She thought she had won. But she didn't know that William had already seen the unique birthmark on my shoulder.
Later that night, as my sister planned her grand engagement, the terrifying CEO pinned me against his office door. His cold eyes melted into fiery obsession as his husky voice brushed my ear.
"How much longer are you going to let her play my girlfriend, my little runaway?"
Chapter 1
"Slow down, I can't take it anymore."
Her delicate fingertips dug into the man's broad back, leaving red marks.
Wendy Moore's voice was hoarse from screaming before he finally let her go.
She gently pushed William's arm off her waist and got out of bed on shaky legs.
Picking up her clothes, she quickly got dressed. A small birthmark on her shoulder disappeared beneath her clothing. She hurried to the door and glanced back at the man—his face was flushed, his eyes hazy.
Wendy opened the door and left.
After being drugged last night, she'd stumbled into his room. He seemed pretty drunk, too. Like fire meeting gasoline, everything just happened. During sex, she recognized him as the legendary, ruthless head of the Ford Group.
He stayed away from women, was decisive and cold-blooded. Women who tried to seduce him either disappeared or ended up in terrible situations.
She hoped he wouldn't remember her!
Rushing home, Wendy suddenly felt something missing from her neck. She looked down.
Oh no, where's the necklace?
"You weren't home last night?"
She looked up to see her sister Shirley Moore doing yoga in the living room, staring at her in surprise.
"I ran into my college roommate at the reception, we talked late, so I just crashed at her place." Wendy's eyes darted away.
"By the way." She touched her neck. "Shirley, I lost the necklace. I'm sorry."
Shirley smiled. "It was cheap, don't worry about it. You've got the expo today, better get ready. I revised your proposal again last night and left it on your desk. Remember to check it."
"Thanks, Shirley." Wendy breathed a sigh of relief and headed upstairs. When she turned eighteen, her family discovered she wasn't their biological child.
But she was lucky—while her parents compensated Shirley, they didn't shortchange her either. The two sisters were always treated equally.
Their relationship was good. Shirley had a sharp business mind and would help her with work. When she went to receptions, Shirley would even lend her jewelry.
"Wendy."
Halfway up the stairs, Shirley suddenly called out.
"Shirley?" Wendy stopped and turned around.
"If we ever fell for the same guy, would you compete with me?"
"What?" Wendy froze. "What are you thinking? I only go for hot but empty-headed guys. Trust me, that's definitely not your type. But if that day ever came, I definitely wouldn't compete with you! So many things should've been yours but ended up with me..."
A flash of darkness crossed Shirley's eyes, quickly replaced by a smile. "Being switched at birth wasn't your fault. Go rest, I was just making conversation."
"I'll head to my room then, Shirley." Wendy hurried to her bedroom. Only after closing the door did she dare relax.
About this sister, though she treated her well, she always had a strange feeling. Sometimes the way Shirley looked at her made her uneasy. But they'd only been living together for two years; maybe they just needed more time to adjust.
Whatever, she wouldn't think about it. Time to work on that proposal.
Two hours later, Wendy arrived at the expo with her revised proposal.
The expo was crowded. She was representing a newly established tech company under the Moore Group, scheduled to speak fourth.
Her turn came quickly. She was well-prepared, so the presentation went smoothly. As she walked off stage amid applause, she caught a familiar figure in her peripheral vision. Looking closer, she froze and nearly twisted her ankle.
It was William!
"Why is he here! Please don't recognize me!" Wendy quickly looked away and hurried off stage back to her seat.
She kept her head down, occasionally glancing toward William. Seeing he wasn't looking her way, she finally relaxed.
"Looks like he didn't recognize me." She patted her chest.
"Ms. Moore."
A gentle voice spoke beside her.
Wendy turned to see a man in a suit.
"Mr. Ford requests your presence in the lounge to discuss business. Is that convenient?"
Mr. Ford?
It couldn't be...
Wendy looked toward William. He glanced her way, then stood and left.
"Ms. Moore, please." The man gestured.
Wendy was shocked. It really was William.
The man led the way while she followed nervously.
Inside the lounge, William wore a dark suit that made him look even more aloof. His deep eyes seemed sharper in the light.
Unlike last night's burning aggression in the darkness, he now radiated an icy, unapproachable aura.
Wendy greeted him nervously. "Hello, Mr. Ford."
"The low-power sensor module in your proposal—what's the lowest you can get the cost down to?" William asked coolly.
Wendy paused for a second, seeing the freshly printed document in William's hand. She realized he'd called her here purely because he was interested in her project, not about last night.
She calmed down. "Well, our costs..." She spoke confidently. Well-prepared, she quickly hit her stride, her eyes unconsciously showing confidence and enthusiasm.
When she finished, William still wore that cold expression.
This made Wendy nervous. Had she said something wrong?
"I feel like I've seen you somewhere before." William stared at her and suddenly spoke.
Wendy gasped, trying to keep her expression steady. "Really?"
"Last year's charity gala." William continued. "You're John Moore's daughter?"
"Yes." Wendy's voice started shaking.
"Mr. Ford and I have met at receptions a few times before. I'm surprised you remember me." She quickly followed his lead.
William gazed at her silently.
Wendy swallowed.
"Bring your project and join the Ford Group." William finally spoke.
"What?"
"Give me your answer within a week." William finished and glanced at his assistant, who immediately handed Wendy a business card.
"Okay, thank you, Mr. Ford." Wendy reached for the card. Her delicate hand contrasted sharply with the black card, a crescent-shaped red mark clearly visible on her hand.
It was from last night when she kept clawing at William. Unable to take it, he'd grabbed her hand and bit it as punishment.
Seeing the bite mark, Wendy jerked her hand back like she'd been shocked. The card fell to the floor.
"Sorry..."
She quickly crouched to pick up the card while tugging at her sleeve.
"I'll get back to you as soon as possible."
William said calmly, "I hope we can work together well."
With that, he stood, adjusted his suit jacket, and left.
Watching him go, Wendy finally breathed a sigh of relief. He didn't seem to notice the bite mark on her hand.
Meanwhile, William walked out of the exhibition hall. He pulled out a necklace from his pocket, paused, and turned to his assistant. "Did you find out?"
"I did. The necklace belongs to John's older daughter, Shirley, Wendy's sister."
"Is that so?" William narrowed his eyes and walked away.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
