After the Divorce, My Husband and Son Begged Me on Their Knees
Irene Vale · Ongoing · 206.3k Words
Introduction
The son she raised from birth? Her husband's kid with his ex. And somehow, both of them knew the whole time and said nothing.
It gets worse. She overheard her husband's actual plan: wait for the ex to come back, then push her out of the company "nicely" and hand her five million as a goodbye gift.
Five million? She single-handedly kept that company alive, pouring in her own money and connections to clean up his messes. And that's all she's worth?
She was done. She wanted everything back that was hers.
The ungrateful kid? She's over it. The husband chasing his first love? Good riddance.
But the moment she walked away for real, both of them came running back.
"Baby, please. Just give me one more chance."
She didn't even look up.
Chapter 1
"Mrs. Quinn, the test results are in. Mr. Quinn and your adopted son do share a biological parent-child relationship."
Outside the testing center, the staff member delivered the news word by word.
Elena Chase clutched the report she'd read countless times, her fingertips trembling uncontrollably.
It was the height of summer, yet her hands and feet were ice cold, her entire body frozen through.
This paternity test had been purely accidental.
A few days ago at their son Lucas Quinn's birthday party, all the guests commented that he looked exactly like Roman Quinn—like they were cut from the same cloth.
Elena hadn't taken it to heart, until her best friend came to her, saying a friend who worked at a testing center had seen their family photo and was convinced the father and son were definitely biologically related.
Elena had always thought it was ridiculous.
Roman had once been injured and diagnosed with infertility, That was why they had adopted a month-old baby five years ago—how could there be any blood relation?
On impulse, she'd followed to her friend's suggestion and sent in the father and son's toothbrushes for testing.
The result was a crushing blow.
If her friend hadn't insisted, she might have remained in the dark forever.
The son she'd raised with her own hands, treated as her own flesh and blood, was actually Roman's child with another woman!
Elena closed her eyes, her mind in chaos.
She had to get back to the company immediately and demand to know why Roman had lied to her, even orchestrating this scheme for five whole years!
Elena drove straight to headquarters.
As soon as she entered the Evergreen Group building, employees along the way greeted her with nods.
Some called her Mrs. Quinn, others Director Elena.
Elena was already in charge of the investment department. The receptionist, thinking she was there for an inspection and seeing her grave expression as she entered the private elevator with documents in hand, didn't dare announce her arrival.
She walked quickly to the CEO's office and was about to push the door when a familiar male voice came from inside.
"Son, more people have been commenting lately on how much you and Lucas look alike. Aren't you afraid Elena will get suspicious?"
Elena's hand froze in mid-air as she reached for the door.
It was Roman's mother, Grace.
Then came a low, cold laugh.
"Mom, it's been five years. People have always said Lucas looks like me, and Elena's never suspected a thing."
Elena stood frozen in place. Through the crack in the door, she could vaguely see the mother and son sitting in the lounge area talking.
Grace held her teacup, looking worried. "Even if she's naive, you're about to hire Chloe as secretary, and Elena has significant authority in the company. Are you sure she won't notice something's off?"
"Chloe will just be the company secretary when she joins. I won't immediately have any relationship with her. Who told her to abandon the child and run off abroad for her career back then? It forced me to grab some random woman to be the kid's mom!"
Roman's tone was laced with resentment.
Yet beneath that resentment, Elena caught something else, affection.
Chloe.
The company was called Evergreen Group.
Elena's face went deathly pale as she instantly understood everything.
So she was just a tool, weighed and measured for convenience. Roman had always loved someone else.
Grace sighed. "So after Chloe returns, what will you do about Elena?"
Roman was silent for a moment, his fingers rubbing the rim of his cup.
"I'll have Elena step down. After she completes her resignation procedures in a month, we'll finalize the divorce. we've been married for years—I'll give her five million as compensation."
Five million.
Elena's heart plummeted, her chest so tight she could barely breathe.
She could hardly stand. Clutching her chest, she staggered toward the restroom.
Only when water splashed on her face did Elena regain some sensation.
She'd once thought she was the happiest person in the world.
A graduate of a prestigious school, suddenly proposed to by the man she had secretly loved for two years, followed by a grand wedding.
The Chases and the Quinns were well-matched families, their families’ approval sealed what seemed like a flawless union..
After marriage, Roman was diagnosed with infertility. Though she regretted not being able to have children with him, she accepted it calmly and supported Roman in adopting a child from an orphanage.
Coincidentally, the director said a baby boy had just been abandoned at the door.
Rather than an older child who'd remember his past, they chose an infant, hoping to build a closer bond.
Roman had named him..
Lucas.
Elena remembered laughing at the time, asking why he'd choose a name meaning "longing for light" when the child was right there beside them.
Roman had only said he hoped their son would seek the light and have a bright future.
Now, looking back, whether it was their son's name or the company's name, both reflected Roman's unforgettable devotion to another woman.
And this company.
After marriage, Roman had started this media and culture company so he could eventually inherit Quinn Group naturally, conducting all business through here.
Elena had also set aside her work at Chase Corporation and poured her savings and connections into supporting him.
Over the years, when projects failed and funding dried up, it was she, the investment director, who filled the gaps.
Half the projects that had doubled the company's market value were ones she'd negotiated.
She fought battles in the business world and worked hard at home, striving to be a good partner, good wife, and good mother.
And now, with Roman's first love returning, she'd become an obstacle!
She was the precious daughter of the Chases—did she need this breakup money?
Evergreen Group's success today was largely because of her. She'd contributed money and effort, and in the end, all this hard work was just Roman's way of winning back his first love!
Elena was in such pain she couldn't breathe. She crouched down, trembling uncontrollably.
For a moment, she found herself utterly ridiculous.
After a long while, her legs numb, she forced herself to stand, then thought of her son Lucas.
The adults were disgusting, but the child was innocent.
Even though Lucas was Chloe's biological son, after five years together day and night, she'd long considered him her own flesh and blood.
Lucas would never accept that woman who abandoned him suddenly jumping out to steal his mother's position, would he?
Elena composed herself, then went home.
As soon as she entered, she saw the nanny helping Lucas try on new suits.
Both sets were ones she'd personally ordered from a haute couture shop.
Lucas stood before the mirror, tugging at bow ties and comparing them, looking conflicted.
"Ugh... which one makes me look more handsome?"
A trace of warmth finally appeared in Elena's dead eyes.
Pretending nothing had happened, she was about to step forward and recommend the navy blue one when Lucas grabbed the other white one.
"I'll wear this one! Dad said she loves white swans best."
Elena's steps halted.
The nanny, unaware of the situation, said ingratiatingly, "Whatever you wear, Mrs. Quinn will surely love it."
Lucas pouted, lowering his voice. "I'm not talking about the one at home! I need to look really handsome to help Dad make her regret abandoning us back then, so she'll beg to come back and be my real mom!"
Elena was thunderstruck, the faint light in her eyes completely extinguished.
Her hand, suspended in mid-air, dropped.
So even a five-year-old child knew his real mother was coming back.
Father and son working together, all to win Chloe's smile, hoping she'd return for a family reunion.
So what was she?
To Lucas, could her five years of devotion be replaced in a second?
To Roman, was her wholehearted help, her contributions in the business world, worth only a divorce certificate and five million?
Dream on!
She would never be trash to be used and discarded.
Before the divorce, she would take back everything that belonged to her, then disappear completely.
In the Chases family, she was the treasured daughter, yet she'd been blind enough to come here and play nanny, play stepping stone for five whole years!
Elena's lips curved in a cold smile. She returned to her room and immediately called the Chases family lawyer.
"Draft me a divorce agreement. Right now."

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
