Betrayed by My Ex in the Apocalypse, I Joined the Mad Witch
Rose · Completed · 6.2k Words
Introduction
"To quell the rumors, give him the commander's authority as well! Consider it proof of your tolerance, and that way everyone will accept our family of three!"
Looking at my fiancée, who was heavily pregnant and had a saintly glow on her face, I felt a wave of nausea wash over me.
Five years of entrusting each other with life and death have resulted in this scene.
Alright, I'll grant your wish.
Without arguing or making a scene, I readily signed the power transfer agreement, removed my epaulets, and walked without looking back into the underground forbidden zone that everyone feared.
There, a crazy witch with a morbid possessiveness toward me is imprisoned.
Sylvia thought that after I relinquished power, I would only be able to kneel in the mud like a stray dog and watch them be affectionate.
But she had no idea that I was the one who had the safety net for her throughout the entire city!
After losing my protection, the system completely crashed within a few days.
That freeloader completely dropped his pretense, not only beating her half to death with domestic violence, but also attempting to invade her private space.
When she crawled to the gate of the restricted area covered in blood, crying and begging me for forgiveness and to save her life.
I was being held in the arms of that aloof witch, watching the pretty boy who had come looking for me:
"The experiment actually spoke, darling..."
Chapter 1
"Bang!"
The heavy, airtight door was suddenly pushed open, and the noise in the underground city command center came to an abrupt halt.
I stood in front of the holographic sand table, my finger still hovering over the defense deployment map.
When I saw the figure at the door, my heart skipped a beat.
It's Silvia.
A year ago, she deserted her post while on a scavenging mission and has been missing ever since.
During that year, I faced pressure from higher-ups and sent search and rescue teams to the surface, even personally leading the search for countless days and nights.
They have gained nothing so far.
And just yesterday , she came back.
He was also accompanied by a tall, thin young man with curly hair—Link .
Silvia's originally tight-fitting combat uniform now showed a noticeable bulge in her abdomen.
She is pregnant.
I looked at the woman in front of me, the one who had fought alongside me and even swore an oath to spend the rest of her life with me in the face of life and death.
I haven't seen her since yesterday...
Sylvia's eyes reddened as she strode up to me.
Why won't you come to see me!
"Just because I'm pregnant with his child!"
Her sharp voice echoed in the command room, filled with deep grievance and accusation .
"Sheridan, were all those promises you made to forgive me for the rest of your life just lies? Why can't you be more magnanimous and accept us as we are now!"
I was caught off guard and even found it utterly absurd.
"Accept...you?"
My gaze passed over her and landed on Link, who was standing behind her with a faint smile on his lips.
"When it was on the surface..."
Sylvia clutched her stomach, chin raised. "We depended on each other for survival in the radiation zone! It was an extreme environment, Sheridan, you have no idea what that despair was like! "
" Now that I'm back, instead of hugging me, you're looking at me with such cold eyes? You've disappointed me so much!"
Looking at her familiar yet unfamiliar face, a sharp pain in my heart, accompanied by extreme exhaustion, welled up inside me.
A year of waiting was met with utter betrayal.
But looking at her slightly protruding belly, I finally managed to suppress the anger surging in my heart.
Resources are scarce in the underground city, and newborns are a rare hope. I really don't want to subject a pregnant woman to a military court trial at this time.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to look away. "I 've reinstated you to your previous command position . Now , you should have your own tasks to complete. Go out ."
I need enough space and distance to calm myself down .
I voluntarily moved out of the rationed shack where we had lived together for five years.
But I seem to have underestimated Silvia's "persistence".
She took my concessions and distance as a form of " throwing a tantrum ".
Starting the next day, she would appear in my office every day at noon, carrying a steaming hot meal.
"Sheridan, I've kept your ration."
At noon today, she placed a stainless steel plate heavily on my desk, her tone carrying a sense of condescension .
"I know you're still blaming me, but I'm trying my best to make it up to you. Eat up, and stop acting like a child."
My gaze fell on the plate. It was a thick soup, with a thick layer of black powder floating on top.
It's pepper.
My stomach instinctively spasmed.
Seven years ago, when we first met, I nearly died on the spot after accidentally ingesting spices , which triggered a severe anaphylactic shock.
"I don't eat pepper." I looked up, my eyes calm and expressionless .
“I have a severe allergy to it; it will cause me to go into shock if I eat it. It’s been seven years , didn’t you know that?”
Sylvia was taken aback.
But then her face flushed red, not from shame, but from anger.
"You can just eat the side dishes!"
She suddenly raised her voice, her eyes instantly filling with tears, as if she had suffered a great injustice .
"Sheridan, you're just nitpicking! I'm pregnant and I still bring you food every day. How low do you want me to go before you'll stop? You're still blaming me for being pregnant with Link's child!"
I didn't say anything, I just watched her quietly.
The office door wasn't closed properly, and through the crack, I could see Link standing in the hallway outside.
I think I still miss the girl who bandaged me up in the ruins.
I am also willing to give her a chance to return to order .
But I really can't stand it.
I kind of miss that madman...

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
