Introduction

"I want you to marry me."
My eyes immediately widened as soon as I heard that from him.
"After three months, we'll file a divorce and pretend nothing happened. Deal?"
"Deal."
I am MoonLeigh Fuentes, a simple poor girl who never cared about anything but to be successful in life and give my family a good life.
My life has changed since the day that I met this cold-hearted CEO named Leon Dompteur. He is none other than my boss, and I married him for the money.

Chapter 1

  PROLOGUE:

"I need you to pretend as my girlfriend and eventually, my wife."

My eyes immediately widened as soon as I heard my boss, who was sitting on a swivel chair while looking straight into my eyes, say that. There was not even a tinge of joking in the tone of his voice, nor on his expression.

"W-What?" I asked, to make sure I really heard that right.

He leaned his back on his swivel chair and crossed his arms as he spoke. "I'm willing to pay you any amount. You name it."

  I gulped. "P-Pay me?"

"Yes. You can name your price and I will give it to you as soon as you sign the contract of this agreement."

He suddenly stood up and walked towards me. "I know how much you need money right now, Miss Fuentes. Your mother is in debt, right? And your younger sister is also studying, and aside from that, it's been three months since the last time you paid for your rent."

How did he know all of that?

  Is he a spy?!

"Miss Fuentes, I know the money that you get from this company is not enough to provide your family's daily needs. That is why I'm offering you an easy-money deal." he casually said as if it was not a big deal.

"I-I just need to pretend as your girlfriend, right?" I asked him.

He nodded before finally walking back to his swivel chair again. "And eventually you will be my wife because next week we'll get married already."

"H-How long do I have to pretend?"

"Three months. After three months, we'll file a divorce. As simple as that."

"W-What if... what if they find out about this agreement? I mean, it's really surprising to know that a rich CEO like you would marry a poor woman like me, right?" I told him with my brows furrowed.

He heaved a deep sigh before responding. "They won't know unless you make it obvious. I will pay you a huge amount of money, so you need to make sure you'll be able to make them believe."

  "B-But if---

  "What?"

"W-What if... What if I ended up falling for you?" I looked straight into his eyes as I said that.

Duh, I'm not a perfect person not to fall for a man I'd be with most of the day. Considering that he is actually handsome and rich.

"Then that's not my problem anymore. You just need to also make sure that you will never ever fall in love with me. You know me, Miss Fuentes. Love would be the last thing on my mind. And all I want is for you to do your job once you agree to this."

Oh well, who would even fall for a cold, snobbish man who doesn't even know how to smile? Actually, most of the employees here in the company can't even look straight into his eyes because of fear.

I nodded. "I'm just kidding. Come on, don't take that seriously, sir. Of course, I won't fall in love with you. I'm just a poor girl and you are a rich man. We're not suitable for each other. And other than that, I hope this wouldn't offend you, sir, but you are not actually my type."

"So, what's your answer?" he asked me again.

I took a very deep breath before I spoke. "But we should have an agreement. Let's make some rules."

"That means it's a yes, right? You agree now?"

  "Yes."

A smirk appeared on his face as he spoke again. "What rules are you talking about?"

"First, we can't sleep in the same room, and second, we won't tell about this to my family."

  "Alright, is that all?"

  "There's more!"

He looked at me with wrinkled brows. Impatiently waiting for me to finally say it. He's been playing with his ballpen using his fingers while looking at me. He kept on tapping it on his desk as if he wants to hurry things up.

  "What is it?"

  "U-Uh... we shouldn't... we shouldn't.... I mean, no... uh..."

"Miss Fuentes, I don't have much time. Just tell me what is it already."

I quickly averted my gaze from him. I could feel my whole face turning red as I finally had the courage to say it . "N-No sex!"

The surrounding was enveloped with silence when I said that. No one was speaking between the two of us until he suddenly started laughing. "A-Are you crazy? What actually crossed your mind to think that you'll have to have sex with me just because we'll get married? That will never happen, Miss Fuentes. Never."

"I-I'm just making sure..." I mumbled.

"Alright then, you should sign it here." he said as he placed a paper in front of me. He gave me a pen and I grabbed that immediately from him.

  This is it.

I am going to do something that would help our family.

With my heart beating so fast, I moved the pen and signed the agreement. I could even feel my hands shaking as I did that as if I was going to sell my soul to the devil.

"Thank you, Miss Fuentes. Now, we both finally agreed." He said as he took the paper from me again and signed it himself.

After that, I finally decided to leave that place and went home. On my way, I was thinking if I did the right thing. Oh well, as if I could still say no to that, I already signed the agreement.

I am MoonLeigh Fuentes, and because of poverty, I agreed to marry my cold-hearted boss and eventually become his wife without even thinking if I would regret that choice in the end. Without knowing that it would change my life forever.

My parents raised me for twenty-four years. Then they found out I wasn't their biological daughter.

Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.

When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.

My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"

"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."

They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.

I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.

Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.

He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.

Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.

A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.

When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.

When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.

My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.

Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."

But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.

Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.

"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"

George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
