Chapter 1
First impressions aren’t always accurate, but sometimes, they leave a mark that’s impossible to erase.
The smell of freshly brewed coffee and cinnamon rolls greeted me as I pushed open the door to Starlight Cafe. It was the only place in the city where I could write without the hum of my perpetually broken radiator or the distracting sounds of my neighbor’s questionable music choices. I was supposed to be finishing an article for the local paper, but inspiration had other plans.
I glanced at the clock on the wall. Five minutes late for my shift, again. Liam, my best friend and partner in crime, waved at me from behind the counter.
“Don’t worry,” he said as I tied on my apron. “Marge hasn’t noticed yet.”
Relief washed over me. Marge, the café’s grumpy owner, wasn’t exactly forgiving when it came to tardiness. “You know she’s going to make me stay late if she catches me, right?” I hissed, tightening my ponytail.
Liam grinned. “Relax, Ava. I’ll cover for you. Again. You owe me, by the way.” “I’ll bake you cookies,” I offered, slipping behind the counter.
“Make it brownies, and we’re even.”
Before I could respond, the door swung open behind me, and a wave of energy, tension, and expensive cologne swept in. I turned to find a man standing there, tall and devastatingly handsome, with a presence that sucked the air out of the room. His dark hair was slicked back, and his tailored suit probably cost more than my annual rent.
He didn’t belong here.
“Double espresso. No sugar. Make it quick,” he said, not bothering to look at me as he fished out his phone.
My blood boiled instantly. The sheer audacity. “Good morning to you too,” I muttered under my breath, but apparently not quietly enough.
He glanced up, his piercing blue eyes locking onto mine. “Excuse me?”
I forced a smile. “I said, good morning. You know it's polite to greet people when you walk into a room.”
His eyebrows lifted in disbelief, as though no one had dared speak to him that way in years. “And it’s polite to serve customers without commentary,” he shot back.
Touche.
I bit back a retort and turned to make his espresso. As I set the cup down in front of him, my hand brushed his. A jolt of electricity zipped through me, and I quickly pulled away, hoping he hadn’t noticed.
“Here you go,” I said, trying to sound indifferent.
He sipped his coffee, nodded once, and dropped a crisp hundred-dollar bill on the counter. “Keep the change.”
Before I could respond, a customer bumped into me from behind, and the coffee pot I was holding tipped
forward. In slow motion, I watched in horror as a cascade of hot coffee spilled across the counter—and onto the man’s pristine white shirt.
“Oh my God,” I gasped.
He froze, his jaw tightening as he looked down at the spreading stain.
“I am so sorry!” I grabbed a napkin and started dabbing at his shirt, only to realize I was making it worse. “Stop,” he said, his voice low and controlled.
“I didn’t mean to—”
“I said stop!” He stepped back, glaring at me like I was the sole cause of his misery. “Do you have any idea how much this shirt costs?”
I blinked at him, momentarily dumbfounded. “More than your attitude, I’m guessing.”
His expression darkened, and for a moment, I thought he might actually yell. But instead, he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “You’ve just made my morning infinitely worse. Congratulations.”
With that, he turned on his heel and stormed out, leaving the hundred-dollar bill behind.
Liam appeared at my side, whistling under his breath. “Well, that was something. You have a knack for ticking off the elite.”
“Who does he think he is?” I fumed.
“That, my dear Ava, was Ethan Blackwell.”
The name hit me like a slap. Ethan Blackwell—the billionaire tech mogul and the subject of half the gossip columns in the city. The man whose face I’d seen plastered across magazine covers with headlines like “The Billionaire Bachelor” and “Man of Steel (and Money).”
I groaned, realizing I’d just spilled coffee on one of the most powerful men in the world. “Great,” I muttered. “Just great.”
The rest of the day dragged on, but my run-in with Ethan Blackwell haunted me. His piercing gaze, his cutting words, the way he made me feel small and infuriatingly intrigued at the same time—it all lingered like a bad dream.
By the time my shift ended, I was exhausted and ready to collapse on my couch. The autumn chill bit at my skin as I walked the few blocks to my apartment, my hands shoved deep into my jacket pockets.
I tried to shake off the encounter. Men like Ethan Blackwell didn’t exist in my world. They didn’t frequent tiny cafes and they certainly didn’t cross paths with people like me twice.
At least, that’s what I thought.
As I rounded the corner to my building, I stopped dead in my tracks.
A sleek black car was parked at the curb, its tinted windows glinting under the streetlights. And leaning against it, arms crossed and expression unreadable, was Ethan Blackwell himself.
“What the hell are you doing here?” I demanded, my voice sharper than I intended.
He pushed off the car and walked toward me, his every movement deliberate and unnervingly graceful. “We need to talk,” he said, his voice steady but laced with tension.
I folded my arms, refusing to back down. “About what? How I ruined your overpriced shirt?” “About a job,” he said, catching me completely off guard.
“A job?”
“Yes,” he said, his lips curving into a faint, almost smug smile. “And whether you like it or not, you’re going to take it.”
Why is a billionaire so desperate to offer Ava a job? What secrets does he hold, and what’s at stake for both of them?

The CEO's Unspoken Love
Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.
"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.
My breathing accelerated, small sounds escaping my throat as he explored my body. His touches were both punishment and pleasure, drawing shudders from me that I thought he felt reverberating through his own body.
My nightgown had ridden up, his hands discovering more of mine with each caress. We were both lost in sensation, rational thought receding with each passing second...

“There are no limits between us,” he chuckled, the mirth sparkling in his gorgeous eyes. “And all of this stems from the night you gave me both pain and pleasure. I’m simply returning the favor.”
He took two steps forward, and I stepped back. “But…” The memory of what I had done filled me with fear, and I knew I had to get out of there. “I…”
“No, Firecat.” He placed an index finger on my lips. “This will take your mind off that son of a bitch.” His strong hands pulled me by the waist until I felt his hard manhood.
The Contract Wife: Marriage Of Malice
He didn't finish. He didn't need to.
I didn't tell him to stop.
Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.

I’d appreciate all your support, thank you so much!

On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
