Biological Apocalypse: Brothers' Blood Feud
R0b0t · Completed · 8.3k Words
Introduction
In my previous life, out of consideration for brotherhood, I handed over the shares and experimental notes left by my father.
In return, he was sent to a live dissection table by his own younger brother and died in endless pain.
Reborn, I coldly watched as Mark exchanged five million in cash for that pile of "worthless paper".
He thought that by stealing virus samples and injecting genetic serum, he could dominate the apocalypse.
Little did they know, the real secret lay hidden in their father's watch—
Activating it requires "the most important thing".
In this life, I will no longer be soft-hearted.
I will make the traitors pay for their crimes in blood.
Chapter 1
"I'll transfer the company shares to you. All I need are Dad's lab notes."
I snapped back to reality; there were no lunatics in hazmat suits in front of me.
I don't have those scars from live dissections on my body.
I instinctively touched my right arm; it was still there.
"Brother, what are you spacing out for? Didn't you hear me talking to you?"
A familiar voice pulled me back to reality.
I looked up and met my brother Mark's anxious face.
He was reborn as well.
This realization instantly calmed me down.
I gripped my palms tightly to keep myself from lunging at him and tearing him to pieces.
Seeing that I didn't speak, Mark raised his voice impatiently: "I said I want those notes! I'll give you the company shares!"
In my past life, I valued brotherhood and gave him my shares without hesitation.
But to my surprise, what I got in return was a demon!
This time, I won't be soft-hearted anymore.
I suppressed the hatred in my heart and said calmly, "Fine, take it."
Mark's face was practically beaming with joy, but he also cautiously eyed me:
"Brother, why are you being so agreeable today? Didn't you value those research materials a lot?"
"Value it? A pile of incomprehensible scraps of paper, can it really be worth five million dollars worth of shares?"
Mark's expression visibly relaxed.
He tentatively asked, "Bro, do you think the CDC is a bit tense lately? I saw on the news that there might be a biological crisis. Are we all going to get infected by the virus?"
He was testing whether I had also been reborn.
I immediately frowned, feigning disgust: "Mark, have you been watching too many biohazard movies? What virus infection? If you're so boring, you might as well go to work at the company."
"Also, you don't actually think that Dad's old notebooks contain any super serum, do you?"
Mark's face froze instantly, and he stammered, "How could that be! Brother, what nonsense are you talking about! I'm just reminded of Dad when I see these things. Give me the notes right away so we can proceed with the share transfer."
He impatiently reached out to snatch the folder from my hand.
I suddenly raised my hand and blocked him.
"Brother? What do you mean?"
Mark's eyes flashed fiercely for a moment, but only for a fleeting instant.
"What's the rush?" I slowly stood up.
"The shares haven't been transferred to me yet. What if you take the notes and run away? Who am I supposed to turn to? Even between brothers, accounts should be kept clear. I don't want to end up with nothing."
A strong sense of disdain and contempt flashed in Mark's eyes.
"Do you think I'm like you, caring about those worthless shares and that money? They're utterly useless in a pinch!"
I ignored him and said calmly, "Aren't you in a hurry for the notes? Then just give me five million in cash. Once the money is in your account, the notes are yours."
Mark was stunned.
He probably didn't expect that I wouldn't even take five million shares, only five million in cash.
In his opinion, this was utterly foolish.
In the apocalypse, money is just a piece of waste paper.
"Okay! Five million it is!" He immediately agreed, afraid that I would change my mind.
"Words are no proof." I took out my phone and started recording.
"What if you don't pay me back, or you pay me but then say I didn't give you the notes? You'll have to give me a written guarantee."
"Noah! Don't go too far!" He was so angry that he jumped up and down.
"Oh? Never mind then." I made a move to put the folder away.
"Anyway, I've been looking through these documents for several days, and I've grown attached to them. Suddenly, I don't want to give them to you anymore."
"No!" Mark grabbed me.
"I'll write it! I'll write it, okay?!"
He quickly wrote down the guarantee, signed it, and pressed his fingerprint on it.
A few days later, I received a transfer notification for five million yuan in my bank account.
Mark snatched the folder I handed him and eagerly began flipping through it.
He looked at the densely packed experimental data, unable to contain his ecstatic joy.
Seeing me looking at him with a half-smile, he stopped expressing his feelings and put on a pitiful look.
"Money is just an external thing to me. Seeing these things reminds me of Dad's research. Don't overthink it, brother."
I waved my hand to indicate that I only cared about money.
Seeing that I really had no interest in the notes, he finally smiled with relief.
I know that a selfish and greedy person like him wouldn't spend money to hoard supplies; he's about to go to the biological lab to buy them for free.
In this lifetime, I have no time to worry about him.
I actually hope he can live a little longer in the apocalypse.
After all, every extra day he lives means another day of suffering.
He should experience everything I suffered in my past life, in its entirety.
This idiot has no idea that the reason why gene serum can give people the ability to predict the future is entirely because it requires specific viral antibodies as activators.
What will he use to activate the serum?!

The chef’s face morphed into existential crisis.

Instead, my fingers curled into his shirt, clutching the fabric as though it was my only anchor. Something in him snapped—something he had been holding back for too long. His mouth found mine in a kiss that wasn't tender, but hungry, desperate.
I gasped into him, his hand sliding up to cup my jaw, holding me as if afraid I might vanish.
"You drive me insane," he breathed against my mouth, his lips trailing to my throat. "I can't lose you, Ella. Not you."
My head fell back, a soft sound escaping me as his fingers memorized my waist. My anger melted beneath his desperation.
"James..." I whispered, more plea than protest.
His hand caught mine, fingers threading together tightly. "I'll bring him back. I swear it. Just... don't turn away from me. Please."
The word please—low, ragged, almost broken—undid me more than anything else could have.
