Introduction

"And now, he's certain your life is over because he kicked you out. They're probably already placing bets on how long it will take for you to bow and beg at their feet to take you back. But..." He said coldly.

"But..." I breathed.

"Imagine suddenly returning with a husband so wealthy he makes them look like paupers. Not only is he filthy rich, but he's hopelessly in love with you, spoiling you rotten. Imagine their shock, their anger, and your satisfaction that you have exceeded their expectations. Won't that be fulfilling?"

"And... who would that husband be?" I whispered.

"Me." He grinned as he caressed my cheek. "Let's get married, my dear Iris."

••~•

After being humiliated and disowned on her wedding day, Iris is suddenly approached by Gordon Graff, the enigmatic and highly controversial billionaire and also her ex's uncle, who asks for her hand in marriage.

His goal: make her family and ex pay for everything they've done to her.

But what happens when the line between pretence and true love begins to blur, and dangerous secrets begin to unfold?

Will the man who has promised to protect her be her doom? And will she be a casualty in his dangerous game of revenge?

Chapter 1

"I object to this wedding!" Blair, my younger sister, yelled, slamming the large doors of the church open, and thunder echoed behind her.

"What are you doing here? I thought you said you were sick?" I asked as she strutted to Thomas, my groom, and wrapped her arms around his neck. A sharp gasp escaped my lips as she gave him a passionate kiss.

"What are you doing? We're at the wedding," Thomas whispered, shrugging her off and stepping away.

"You don't have to marry her anymore. I just got back from the hospital, and I've got good news. We're having a baby." She grinned, pulling out a folded paper from her purse and waving it in the air.

Pregnant!

"You're pregnant!" He gasped.

"Yes! You're going to be a father!" She squealed.

"Fuck! I'm going to be a father! I'm going to be a father!" He laughed, grabbing her hip, and he kissed her.

Pregnant...

A father...

My groom was going to be a father to my sister's baby?!

"T-thomas? What... what's going on? Why... why is she telling you you're the father of her baby? This... this is a joke, right?" I stuttered, squeezing my bouquet.

It had to be a joke.

"Because he is," Blair retorted, rolling her eyes, and my stomach dropped.

"You... you've been cheating on me? For how long?" I whispered, my amber eyes stinging with tears.

"Since it's all out now, there's no need to hide the truth anymore. Blair and I have been dating for two years." Thomas smiled and kissed her temple.

"But... but that's how long we've been engaged! How... how could you do that to me? I thought you loved me?"

"Who could ever love you?" he scoffed. "Blair is my true love. You're the annoying sister I unfortunately had to get married to because the doctor said Blair would have a hard time conceiving, and I need an heir to my family business."

"But lucky for me, you're no longer needed since I'm pregnant," Blair smirked, flipping her brown hair. "Honestly, you should be grateful that things turned out like this, because he planned on divorcing you once you had two kids, taking them away and marrying me."

No. No!

"Mother, Father? Is this true? Did you guys really plan that?" I cried, turning to my parents.

"Yes, and? I don't get why you're being so dramatic when you know your marriage was purely business from the beginning." My mother, Monica, scoffed.

"I know, but I love him." I wept as I grabbed Thomas' hand. "I love you, Th—"

He shoved me away, and I stumbled back.

"Get it into your dumb skull: I don't love you. I never did. I love Blair." He growled.

"B-but today is our wedding—"

"Wrong. It's now Thomas's and my wedding." Blair grinned.

"What are you talking about? It's still mine," I insisted.

"Blair is right. Since she's pregnant for Thomas, there's no need for him to marry Iris. They could get married instead. " Ashley, Thomas’ mother, said to my parents.

"You—"

"That's a brilliant idea, my dear. There's no need to cancel this to start preparing another one. We already have everything set. We just need to change the brides." Paul, Thomas’ father, nodded.

"I agree. Iris, take your sister to the back and give her your dress so she can get married." Mother urged, and my eyes grew wide.

Were they... serious? This couldn't be real.

"F-father," I sobbed, rushing to his side. "Please say something. You can't let them do—"

"Stop your whining and go give Blair the dress." He scoffed, and cold hit my core.

This... this was real.

"Of course, you'll take her side," I whispered, bowing my head.

It was always like this.

"Let's go already. I want to be Mrs Graff," Blair whined, grabbing my arm.

It... it had to stop.

"No!" I murmured, but she tugged me harder.

"Come on. I—"

"I said no!" I snapped, and she stumbled back.

"What are you doing?" she scowled.

"I'm not giving you this dress. I'm not watching you get married." I shook my head.

"Stop acting like a brat," she retorted.

"Says the one that is pregnant by her sister's fiancé and demanding to marry him like a... a slut!" I yelled.

Smack

A hard, firm hand struck me across the face before the last word fell out, and I tumbled to the floor.

"Fa... father?" I whispered, my eyes staring into his burning ones as I touched my aching cheek.

"Don't you fucking dare insult my daughter!" He barked, glowering at me. "You either do as you're told or get out and cease being part of this family."

As in… disown?

My vision swam and my chest tightened.

"You... you don't mea—"

"I do. You're a shame to me. I would be glad to finally get rid of you." He sneered.

A shame...

I dragged myself to my feet and hiked up my dress.

"F-fine. I'm no longer your daughter!" I cried and ran out of the church into the cold rain.

So, after years of trying to live up to an impossible expectation, I was still a shame...

That was all I was.

A shame.

Honkkkk

My eyes widened as a truck sped towards me. I ran forward but tripped on my dress, falling to the wet road.

No!

I squeezed my eyes shut, waiting for the inevitable impact, but someone yanked me out of the road.

"I know things must be terrible, but trust me, dying isn't the best way out." A rich baritone voice chuckled, and I opened my eyes.

My breath hitched at the handsome man pressing me against his chest and holding an umbrella over us. His slicked-back hair and eyes were darker than midnight, and his features put Greek gods to shame.

And he looked familiar.

"Are you lost, little bride? Do you need help returning to your groom?" He asked, his lips curled to a smirk, and I flinched.

"Thanks for saving me, but I don't need your help," I murmured, shrugging him off and turned to leave.

"Really? Not even after what Thomas, your family and his did to you?" he asked, and I froze.

How did he know? The marriage was strictly a private affair: no media, no news, no guests.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I lied.

"Did your heartbreak suddenly make you forget your fiancé and family? You're so easy to break." He chuckled.

"So easy to break!" I snapped, turning around, and I glared at him. "It's ex-fiancé and I no longer have a family! I don't know who you are and how you were privy to such a private event, but stop. I can't be humiliated twice today. You... you should be ashamed of yourself for picking on a woman who's in distress!"

"There's a little fire in you. Good. You're going to need it," he nodded and grabbed my hand. "Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Gordon Graff; it's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, Ms Iris Adams."

My heart sank as he kissed the back of my hand.

The Gordon Graff!

I flinched, stumbling away from him.

One Night. One Mistake. One Lifetime of Consequences.

I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.

My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.

But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.

In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.

"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.

"Who the fuck is Jason?"

My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.

I ran away for my life!

But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!

They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.

Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”

There is no other choice for me but to chose this cage. My body also betrays me, craving the beast who ruined me.
