I Taught Him the Price of Betrayal
Piper Hayes · Completed · 6.8k Words
Introduction
This year, I'm pregnant again. Finally.
But on our daughter's death anniversary, he doesn't show. Five hours. Nothing.
I find him at our casino with some girl draped all over him. The same girl I pulled out of a trafficking ring two years ago.
She's laughing loud enough for everyone to hear. "His wife won't stop crying about that dead kid. God, he's so over it."
He kisses her. Right in front of me.
Three days later, he tears up our daughter's grave. His mistress wants a swimming pool.
The shovel comes down. My unborn baby goes with it.
Years ago, Dominic taught me the rules of our world. How we handle traitors.
Time for a reminder.
Chapter 1
Astrid's POV
At twenty-nine, Dominic Brooks becomes the king of this city's underworld.
The last family that tried to challenge him got wiped out last night.
He's standing at the top of the pyramid now.
This is also the year I get pregnant with his child again.
The one we spent three years waiting for—a blessing that came late.
But today, I've been waiting for five hours.
It's three years since Lily died.
Our daughter. She died when his enemies came after us.
Every year until now, no matter how much blood was on Dominic's hands, he showed up at the cemetery on time.
But today, he's not picking up.
I'm not the type to sit at home crying.
I call one of my men.
"Mrs. Brooks."
"Find Dominic. Tell me where he is."
Ten minutes later, I get my answer.
He's at our biggest casino, celebrating his rise to the top with some girl.
I arrive at the casino and push through the crowd. That's when I hear a girl screaming at someone.
"You useless pieces of shit! Can't even pour a glass of champagne right. What the hell does Dominic keep you around for?"
Who has the nerve?
I see a young girl.
She's wearing an expensive dress I've never seen before. A brand new diamond necklace around her neck.
My men are standing there with their heads down. No one's stopping her.
One of the managers is apologizing, his voice pathetically servile.
The girl's on a roll now. She throws casino chips at the manager's face.
Then her eyes land on me. She looks smug.
"Oh, and that so-called Mrs. Brooks of yours." She laughs, contemptuous. "I heard she was at home crying again today. Over some dead kid. Dominic's sick of it!"
I see her face clearly now.
Evelyn Carson.
Two years ago. A trafficker's truck. A dozen kidnapped girls crammed inside.
She was the youngest one. Still in college. About to get shipped off to a brothel.
I pulled her out. Gave her a decent job.
Now she's standing in my casino, spitting on my daughter's memory with the freedom I gave her.
Before I can say anything, someone shoves my shoulder hard. I stumble.
Dominic walks past me like I'm just some stranger in his way.
He goes straight to the girl and pulls her into his arms.
"Alright, alright, baby, calm down." His voice is gentle. "Whatever you want. I'll give you anything."
Evelyn leans against his chest, looking at me with that smug expression.
Dominic kisses her forehead before he looks up.
When he sees my face, he freezes for a second.
Then he puts on that familiar, careless smile.
"What are you doing here?" He sounds like he's talking to an unwanted guest. "Go home. I'll be back after I handle things here."
This man is wearing a custom suit worth a hundred grand. The watch on his wrist is the one I gave him.
We used to hold each other in a broken apartment in the slums.
He used to tell me that as long as I was there, he wasn't afraid of anything.
Now he won't even look at me.
"Do you know what day it is?" I ask.
Dominic frowns, like he's considering something trivial.
"Of course I know," he says. "But she's being difficult. I need to deal with her first."
He pats Evelyn's back, his voice soft. "Go wait in the room. I'll be right there."
Like it doesn't even matter.
I'm staring at this absurd scene.
My mind goes back to years ago. Dominic on his knees in front of me, putting a gun in my hand.
"I swear to God," he said. "I'll never betray you."
"If I ever do, use this gun to kill me."
That gun is still in my safe.
The bullets are still there too.
I laugh coldly. Then I grab the whiskey bottle from the casino table and smash it against Dominic's head.
Blood runs down from his temple.
Evelyn screams.
Dominic doesn't even try to dodge. He just instinctively shields her.
"You want to hit someone, hit me," he says, and there's actual irritation in his voice. "She's delicate. She can't handle this kind of thing."
"Go home. Don't make this uglier than it needs to be."
"This is ugly?" I sneer. "Years ago, I got beaten half to death protecting you. Nearly died in that warehouse. That was ugly."
Dominic just covers Evelyn's ears.
"She's pure. Innocent," he says, and there's disdain in his tone. "Not like you, Astrid. You grew up in this violent world."
"Stop talking about this stuff. You're scaring her."

Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.

Triplet Alpha: My Fated Mates
"No." "I'm fine."
"Fuck," he breathes. "You're—"
"Don't." My voice cracks. "Please don't say it."
"Aroused." He says it anyway. "You're aroused."
"I'm not—"
"Your scent." His nostrils flare. "Kara, you smell like—"
"Stop." I cover my face with my hands. "Just—stop."
Then his hand on my wrist, pulling my hands away.
"There's nothing wrong with wanting us," he says softly. "It's natural. You're our mate. We're yours."
"I know." My voice is barely a whisper.
I spent ten years as a ghost in the Sterling mansion—a debt slave to the triplet Alphas who made my life hell. They called me "Carrot," shoved me into frozen rivers, and left me to die in the snow when I was eleven.
On my eighteenth birthday, everything changed. My first shift released a scent of white musk and first snow—and three former tormentors stood outside my door, claiming I was their fated mate. All three of them.
Overnight, the debt vanished. Asher's commands turned to vows, Blake's fists became trembling apologies, and Cole swore they'd been waiting for me all along. They declared me their Luna and promised to spend their lives atoning.
My wolf howls to accept them. But one question haunts me:
Would that eleven-year-old girl, freezing and certain she would die, forgive the choice I'm about to make?
The CEO Above My Desk
“I know she does.”
“And what if she doesn’t want this kind of protection?”
“She will,” I say, my voice lowering slightly. “Because she needs a man who can give her the world.”
“And if the world burns?”
My hand tightens subtly at Violet’s waist.
“Then I’ll build her a new one,” I reply. “Even if I have to burn the old one down myself.”
I don’t work for Rowan Ashcroft.
I work beneath him.
From my desk, I decide who gets access to the most ruthless CEO in the city, and who never makes it past the lobby. I manage his time, his silence, his enemies. I keep his world running while my own quietly collapses under unpaid bills, a mother locked in rehab, and a brother who vanished without a goodbye.
Rowan Ashcroft is power wrapped in a tailored suit.
Cold. Untouchable. Merciless.
He doesn’t flirt. He doesn’t smile. He doesn’t see people, only usefulness.
And for a long time, I was just useful.
Until he started watching.
A shift in his attention is subtle at first. A pause too long. A look that lingers. Orders that pull me closer instead of pushing me away. The man who stands above my desk begins to control more than my schedule, and I realize too late that being noticed by Rowan Ashcroft is far more dangerous than being ignored.
Because men like him don’t crave affection.
They crave possession.
This was supposed to be a job.
Not a test of my limits.
Not a slow, deliberate descent into his authority.
But if Rowan Ashcroft decides I belong under his desk, then so be it.
Survival has a price, and the bills don’t care how I pay them.
