Introduction
As Maya struggles to resist her growing attraction to Damian, she becomes entangled in his dangerous world, where other packs and betrayal threaten to ruin him and his power. Damian’s cold and commanding exterior begins to crack, revealing a haunted man. He only wishes to protect her and is desperate to do so.
When Maya learns that Damian initially brought her into his life to fulfill a prophecy that could save his family and pack, she feels betrayed and leaves him because she questions everything about their connection.
But as Damian’s enemies close in and his authority as alpha is tested, Maya realizes her feelings for him run deeper than she thought. She returns to help him face both the rebellion within his own pack and a final, supernatural threat that might just be what ends them all.
In the end, Maya and Damian must accept the bond, trust each other, and fight together to secure their love and their newfound family. Their journey is one of passion, power, and redemption, proving that even in their world of shadows, love can win.
Chapter 1
The heavy oak door slams shut behind me as I enter the office, echoing in the silence of the room like a death knell. I move over to a chair in front of my father’s desk, sitting down in the worn fabric as my fingers nervously grip the edge so tightly that the wood digs into my palms. He stands before me, just on the other side of the desk, his face pale and drawn, but the shame in his eyes is what makes my stomach ache.
“Maya,” he says, keeping his voice low as it trembles with raw emotion. “I just want you to know that I had no choice in the matter. This is not what I wanted for you, but I couldn’t get out of it.”
The fire crackles in the nearby hearth, but its warmth never reaches me. I feel cold to the bond and shiver in response. It’s the kind of chill that comes with uncertainty and I know deep down that whatever he is about to say is going to change my life.
“What are you talking about? What is against your will?” I ask, though I feel dread in my stomach.
His eyes don’t meet mine. Instead, he paces around his side of the desk, the soles of his scuffed shoes making a noise against the old faded rug beneath us. The thing is probably older than me.
“There are some debts in the family, Maya, and they have grown beyond what I can manage. I have tried every other way to pay them off. I have done everything I know to do, but nothing works. The banks, businesses, and even going to your uncle for help have done nothing to stop the debts. No one will give me what we need to survive, but you can.”
I blink in confusion, my mind scrambling to make sense of his words. Debts? What debts? He has never mentioned them before that I can remember. Sometimes he talks about money, but most of the time he brushes it off with a pained smile and assures me that things are fine. But now, I know the truth.
The talks of money are about a debt that he owes and now they are pressing down on both of us.
“How bad is it?” I ask in a whisper, hoping there is a way to turn this around. “How bad, father? What do you mean, I can do something about it?”
He stops pacing as he passes right behind me for the first time, and I turn, only to catch him slumping his shoulders. “It’s bad enough that they are going to take the house and everything within it. We should be out on the streets by now, in all honesty.”
“So, you fixed it or you have a plan they accepted?” I ask, my voice sounding more hopeful. “Right?”
My father’s lips part as he sucks in a breath, but no words come out. Instead, his hands ball into fists at his sides. His gaze suddenly falls to the floor.
“Dad,” I said, my voice tense with curiosity. “You fixed this, right?”
I swallow hard when he doesn’t say anything.
The manor has been in our family for generations, along with the bookshop next door. It isn’t much, but it has been ours and it’s home.
Dad flinches, and at that moment, I know the answer is something I never want to hear.
“Someone made an offer,” he says, his words barely a whisper. “A man offered to pay off our debts in exchange for you.”
The last part is said so low that I don’t quite make it out.
“In exchange for what?”
His gaze lifts and meets mine. The guilt reflected in them is enough to make me feel weak.
“In exchange for you,” he says more clearly.
“Me?” I ask as my entire world tilts. The edges of my vision go blurry. I grip the armchair tighter as my knuckles turn white and his words sink in. “You’re joking with me. You can’t be serious.”
He immediately scrambles for words. “I don’t want to do it, Maya. But I don’t have a choice. They were going to ruin us and take everything that is ours,” he says as he takes a step forward. His hands outstretched toward me as if to plead with me to understand. “Damian Blackwood is wealthy and powerful. He promised to take care of you.”
Damian Blackwood.
The name sends a chill down my spine. I heard of him before, but mostly they were whispers in hushed tones around town. He is a billionaire with a reputation as ruthless as he is mysterious. Some said that he is involved in things far darker than the business he publicly runs. Others claim he isn’t even human, which I find very far-fetched.
But those are just rumors, aren’t they?
“So, you sold me?” I ask, the words tasting bitter on my tongue. “You sold your eldest daughter to pay off your debts that you caused. Why would you do that? Are you insane?”
Tears glisten in his eyes. “It isn’t like that. He’s not some monster that you have heard about around town. He said you’d get everything you wanted and dreamed of. It’s security and wealth. I won’t have to worry about you.”
“Freedom?” I ask, interrupting him. “Does your deal come with freedom or did you forget that I like my freedom? I’m not even getting a choice in this, am I?”
He falters in his steps as silence overcomes him. My stomach twists in knots. I am sick as it churns. This can’t be happening. It has to be some kind of nightmare that I’d eventually wake up from.
But as I sit here, I know I’m awake and this isn’t a dream.
“When?” I ask after a long moment of silence.
“What?”
“When does he expect me to arrive?”
Dad hesitates, and I can see the guilt raging alongside the rest of the emotions within him. “He’s expecting you tonight. I think he’s sending someone to pick you up.”
I laugh in disbelief. “So, that’s it?” You are just going to hand me over like some kind of commodity with only a few hours' notice?”
“Maybe, please understand I had to.”
“Don’t,” I say, interrupting him again as I rise to my feet. I am trembling, but I clench my fists at my side and force myself to stand tall. “Don’t act like you did this for anyone but yourself. This was for you and only you. Your mistakes and your debts. Now I have to pay for them.”
He recoils away from me as if I had struck him, but I can’t bring myself to show that I care. My chest heaves as if the weight of his betrayal presses down on me like he is doing it himself.
“I’m sorry,” he whispers. “I don’t know what else to do.
I brush past him as my mind races. There has to be a way out of this, but I’m not sure how to get out of it.
Damian Blackwood has already won, and my father has seen to it.

I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
