Introduction

He chose my sister over me. Now he's begging for a second chance.
Five years of being Alpha Kane Radcliffe's wife, I got nothing but betrayal.
He forced me to go to jail for my sister. And my twin sons threatened me they'd never call me Mom again. They all chose Aurelia, not me.
So I finally walked away.
Three years later, I'm not the same woman he discarded.
I'm Cici Lane. The Dance Queen the world can't stop watching.
Until Kane walks into my welcome party with Aurelia on his arm and my sons at his side.
The look on his face is priceless when my daughter calls me Mommy.
Now my ex-husband is sniffing around like he has a right to me. My sons are staring at me like they've seen a ghost. And Aurelia? She's about to learn what happens when you push the wrong woman too far.
They threw me away once.
This time, they'll have to beg.

Chapter 1

"Aurelia hit someone with her car," Alpha Kane Radcliffe said coldly. "We've already compensated the victim. But the police need a driver's name for their records. You will tell them you were behind the wheel."

Cynthia stared at him, the words refusing to make sense in her mind.

This was supposed to be the night of their fifth wedding anniversary. She had spent the entire afternoon preparing his favorite dishes, lighting candles, even putting on the dress he had complimented once, years ago, when he still bothered to notice her. Instead, she had been yanked from her own dining room by a single phone call—Come to the station. Now.—and had driven here with her heart lodged in her throat.

She had imagined wreckage. Blood. Her husband and her twin sons lying broken on cold asphalt.

But no. They were standing here, alive and unharmed.

And the emergency was this: her husband wanted her to take the fall for her stepsister.

"I… why would I do that?" Cynthia stammered. Her chest tightened with a suffocating ache.

"Isn't the answer obvious?" Kane's jaw went hard—the familiar tell of a man whose patience was already ash. "Aurelia's dance career is at its peak. Next week, she has the most important performance of her life. If not for your shameful interference five years ago, she would have succeeded long ago. This is your chance to atone."

Cynthia felt as though lightning had struck her from a clear sky.

She had always known Kane resented this marriage. But she had never imagined he could be so cruel as to ask her for this.

"Her career?" Cynthia's voice cracked. Her hands trembled uncontrollably at her sides. "What about me? What about my career? My reputation? I'm your Luna!"

“Luna? You really dare to call yourself that.” Kane let out a cold, sharp laugh. "Everyone already knows how you schemed your way into my bed. Don't stand there playing the victim. As for your career? I've been supporting the family all these years. What career do you have?"

Cynthia's nails dug deep into her palms.

She had heard these words before—from the very first day she married Kane. The whispers had never stopped. Everyone said she had stolen her sister's man. Called her a schemer, a homewrecker. But hearing those cruel accusations fall from her husband's own lips? That shattered her heart into a million pieces, each one cutting deeper than the last.

Aurelia, who had been watching from the sidelines with cool detachment, glided over and wrapped her arms around Kane's waist. She nestled against him as if they were the true mates—as if Cynthia were the interloper in her own marriage.

Aurelia's voice dripped with practiced fragility. "Never mind, Kane. After all… we all know Cynthia would never agree to help me—"

"She doesn't have a choice!" Kane cut in sharply. "She owes you so much. How could she live with herself if she—"

Cynthia snapped.

"Owes her what?" She shoved Kane hard in the chest, her voice rising with years of pent-up fury. "I gave her my only audition slot—and she still blew it. I stood by silently while you and everyone else poured every resource into her career, never once complaining. I let her parade around town with my husband draped on her arm, smiling for the cameras like she was the Luna. How many more of my bones must I break before you decide I've paid my debt?"

Her eyes burned, but she refused to let a single tear fall.

"You both claim that night five years ago was all my fault. So let me ask you, Alpha Kane—" her voice dripped with bitter irony as she used his title like a curse, "Did I get pregnant all by myself? Did I drag an Alpha like you to the courthouse and force you to marry me? You keep insisting I seduced you, but we both know the truth. You kissed me first. Are you really that forgetful, or just too much of a coward to—"

Before she could utter another word, Kane's hand struck her face.

The slap cracked through the air like a whip. All these years—through every cold silence, every public humiliation, every night he took her body like she was nothing—he had never once laid a hand on her like this. Cynthia's head snapped to the side, her cheek blazing with fire. And somewhere deep inside her chest, something else shattered—into pieces so small she wasn't sure she would ever find them all.

But before she could even draw a breath—

"Mom."

A small voice came from behind her.

She turned, her vision swimming with unshed tears. Her twin sons stood a few feet away. They had seen everything.

And yet, no small arms rushed to wrap around her legs. No cry of "Don't bully mom!" No outrage on her behalf.

Her elder son, Justin—who looked so much like Kane—glanced at his father, then back at her. The expression on his face was colder than the slap.

"Why do you always make Daddy so angry?" he asked quietly.

Her younger son, Harry, said nothing. He simply looked away and slipped behind his father, seeking shelter from her very presence as if she were something shameful to hide from.

Cynthia stood there, her hand slowly rising to her burning cheek. And in that moment, surrounded by her family, she had never felt more utterly, devastatingly alone.

For a long moment, no one moved.

Then Kane's jaw unclenched—just slightly—as if the presence of their children had forced him to swallow back the rest of his rage. But his eyes remained cold, flat, merciless. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a folded document.

The confession.

He shoved it into Cynthia's hands. "Sign it," he said through gritted teeth. "And stop making a scene."

Cynthia's fingers trembled as she unfolded the paper. Her breath caught—not from shock, but from something far worse. The name was already filled in. Her name. Written in clean, deliberate strokes. He had planned this long before she ever walked through the station doors.

He hadn't called her here to ask.

He had called her here to tell her.

Something inside her snapped.

With both hands, she tore the confession straight down the middle. Then again. And again. Until the pieces fluttered to the floor like broken wings.

"I will not," she said, her voice low and shaking with fury, "spend one more minute of my life cleaning up your mistress's messes. Find someone else to burn for her, Kane. I'm done."

Aurelia's eyes widened—then softened instantly into something wet and wounded. She turned to the twins, pulling them close with a theatrical gasp.

"It's all right, boys. Auntie Aurelia will be fine. Even if I have to go away for a very, very long time…" Her voice cracked on cue. "I'll always love you."

Justin's face crumpled. But it was Harry who stepped forward, his small hands balled into fists, his eyes blazing with a defense that had never once been aimed at Cynthia.

"If you let them take Auntie Aurelia away," Harry said, his voice trembling but fierce, "we will never call you Mom again. Never."

The words hit Cynthia like a blade between the ribs.

She looked at her son—her son, the one she had carried for nine months, the one she had rocked through fevers and nightmares and first-day-of-school tears—and saw a stranger glaring back at her. A stranger who had already chosen his side.

That was the moment the last thread inside her finally snapped.

Not with a scream. Not with tears. She made a decision.

Slowly, Cynthia reached up and pulled the wedding band from her finger. The gold band that had never once felt like a promise—only a cage. She held it for a moment, letting its weight settle in her palm. Then she opened her hand and let it fall.

The ring hit the floor with a soft, final clink.

"Then have her," Cynthia said quietly. Her voice didn't shake anymore. It didn't need to.

"I'll file for divorce first thing in the morning. If the boys want Aurelia so badly, then let them have her. Let her be their mother. Let her warm your bed and play house with the family."

She lifted her gaze to Kane—cold, clear, and finished.

"You've already taken everything else. I won't give you my freedom, too."

Kane's lip curled into a sneer. "You think you can walk away from me?" He crossed his arms, utterly unmoved. "I've seen this before, Cynthia. You'll crawl back inside a week. You always do."

"You have nothing. No money. No career. No family who wants you. Where exactly do you think you're going to go?"

Cynthia didn't answer. She just walked away.

She pulled out her phone, turned away from the man who had spent five years breaking her, and dialed a number she hadn't called in years.

"Elena?" Her voice was steady now. Stone. "I need a favor. The traffic cameras on Fifth and Main—from two hours ago. Yes, that footage. Send it to the police station. And find me the best divorce lawyer in the city."

She hung up, walked straight to the front desk, and handed the officer a written statement—her statement—declaring that she had not been behind the wheel, that the driver was Aurelia Ramsdale, and that the full truth would be delivered via security footage within the hour.

Then she turned and walked out of the police station.

Kane had always mistaken her silence for weakness. He had looked at her quiet endurance and seen a woman who would never fight back.

Since tonight, she would let him learn just how wrong he was.
