Introduction

"You think I don't want to leave? My wolf would find you." Damian's words are branded into my heart like a searing mark.

Ella Blackwood awakens to discover she's lost three years of memories, yet has become the mate of Damian, the most powerful werewolf Alpha. More shocking still—her ex-boyfriend Lucas, Damian's own brother, has been exiled from the pack.

As Ella readjusts to her luxurious new life, she discovers she's not only the head of the werewolf medical consortium but is also known as the "Miracle Doctor." However, pack elder Marcus schemes in the shadows, plotting to challenge her legitimacy at the annual summit. Even more complicated are her conflicted feelings toward Damian—this cold Alpha who prepares her hot chocolate, remembers her every preference, and even places the ancestral silver blade capable of killing any werewolf into her hands, saying: "If you discover I'm the villain, then kill me."

When Lucas secretly reappears, claiming Damian has been surveilling her from the beginning and may have even manipulated their fated bond, Ella plunges into a crisis of trust. The Blood Moon pack's threats intensify, family political struggles escalate, and she must perfectly perform as a loving mate at the summit.

At the lavish summit banquet, when the Blood Moon Alpha's sister deliberately splashes red wine toward her white gown, Ella grips her wine glass, prepared to retaliate. At that moment, Damian's hand covers hers, his eyes holding a depth she's never seen before: "Trust me."

Meanwhile, at the far end of the ballroom, Lucas's figure flashes by—he shouldn't be here. Tomorrow is their appointed meeting day—Blackwood Sanatorium, 3 PM.

Ella must choose: trust the husband beside her, or meet the ex-boyfriend who claims to hold the truth? But what she doesn't know is that regardless of her choice, someone waits in the darkness...

Chapter 1

Ella's Pov

I thought I already knew what it felt like to not belong. I was wrong.

Lucas was half a step ahead of me when we stepped into the elevator of the Dark Moon club, and the moment the doors closed, my legs went weak — not from fear, but from the kind of nervous dread that makes your palms sweat and your stomach twist into knots.

Tonight, my boyfriend was taking me to meet his pack.

When I first met Lucas, he seemed like any other man — charming, a little arrogant, the kind of smile that made you forget to keep your guard up.

We'd been together two years before he finally told me the truth: he was a werewolf. Not just any werewolf, but a member of the most powerful pack in this city — the Graystone Wolf Clan.

I had twenty-four hours to process that.

Twenty-four hours later, I was standing on the top floor of the most expensive hotel in the city, pretending I had every right to be there.

The moment the elevator doors opened, I knew I'd dressed wrong.

Frizzy brown hair. A floral dress pulled off a clearance rack.

Every woman in that room looked like she'd stepped off the cover of a fashion magazine — designer gowns, stilettos sharp enough to use as weapons, jewelry that caught the light and stabbed straight into my eyes.

I took a slow breath. Don't panic. You're fine. You're completely fine.

"A human?"

Two women drifted past me, their nostrils flaring, sniffing the air like they'd caught the scent of something that had no business being there.

The way they looked at me — like a stain on an expensive rug.

One of them covered her mouth and laughed. "Isn't that Lucas Blackwood's little... plaything?"

Lucas tightened his grip on my hand. "Ignore them."

Easy for him to say.

He led me toward a long table where a group of young people lounged in their seats, surrounded by whiskey and cigars, smoke curling slow and thick above their heads.

Lucas pulled out a chair for me, then straightened up, wearing that expression I'd already learned to recognize — tense and eager at the same time.

"Everyone, this is Ella. My girlfriend of two years."

Silence.

Not a single person greeted me. They just looked, that slow top-to-bottom scan, like they were assessing a piece of cheap furniture that had been dragged into a mansion.

Whispers rippled around the table. I couldn't make out the words, but I didn't need to — the tone said everything.

I sat down, folded my hands in my lap, and told myself to breathe.

Then a glass of red wine poured down my dress.

First came the cold. Then the color — dark red bleeding into white fabric, spreading like a wound.

I went rigid, staring down at myself, too stunned to move.

I hadn't expected them to be this brazen. I was here as Lucas's girlfriend. I was his guest.

"Oops." Marcus grinned, not a trace of remorse on his face. "Forgot how slow human reflexes are."

Lucas slammed his palm on the table and shoved to his feet. "Marcus, what the f—"

"Relax, it's just a joke." Marcus shrugged, completely unbothered. "Seriously though — does your brother know you brought a human to a Graystone gathering?"

Low laughter rolled around the table.

Another voice cut in: "Is she your mate? Playing around with a human is one thing, but your bloodline — there's no reason to bring a human into an internal pack meeting."

My fingernails dug into my thigh through the soaked fabric. Hold it together. They're his people. Don't get angry.

Lucas said through his teeth, "She's someone I love. Damien will understand."

Damien. Lucas had mentioned his brother to me a hundred times — sharp, decisive, commanding to the point of being frightening.

The kind of Alpha who could hold an entire pack together through sheer force of will.

A shadow fell across the doorway.

Damien Blackwood.

The entire room went dead silent — I'm not exaggerating. Every single person held their breath, like prey that had just sensed a predator.

He was taller than any werewolf I'd seen tonight.

Black tailored suit, no tie, the top two buttons of his shirt undone. His face was all sharp angles and high cheekbones, but what actually stopped me cold were his eyes.

Gray. Ice-cold. Like the surface of a frozen lake.

His gaze swept the room, passing over everyone, until it landed on me — and I felt pinned in place, like a spotlight had found me with nowhere to run.

Lucas's face lit up. "Damien! This is the girlfriend I've been telling you about—"

Damien raised one hand. Lucas went quiet immediately. Just like that.

"Lucas." His voice wasn't loud, but every word landed like a blade dragged slowly across skin. "I lent you Dark Moon for a gathering, not to run a human shelter."

Heat flooded my face. It felt like being slapped in front of a room full of strangers — because that's essentially what it was.

Lucas stood up. "Brother, I just wanted to officially introduce her to the pack—"

"Introduce?" A short, cold laugh. "A human with no wolf soul — introduce her to what? Our bloodline? Our legacy? The wealth and reputation this family has built over centuries?"

He paused, those gray eyes locking onto me.

"Listen. I don't know what you're after, and I don't care what tricks you used to get your hooks into my brother, but you've picked the wrong target. I am the Graystone Alpha. Everything goes through me."

"A human with no wolf soul has no place in my pack."

Each word landed like a slap. My face burned. My eyes stung. But I forced the tears back down, hard — I would die before I cried in front of these people.

I wanted to defend myself. I wasn't some calculating gold-digger. I hadn't even known what Lucas was until yesterday.

But Marcus twisted the knife from across the room: "Damien's right. She doesn't even measure up to the lowest Omega. No wolf soul, no standing — no idea how she managed to get her claws into Lucas."

I turned to look at Lucas.

I needed him to say something. Anything. Push back, explain, even just a single "don't talk about her like that" — that would have been enough.

We'd been together two years. He knew exactly who I was.

He stared at the floor and said nothing. My heart dropped straight into ice water.

Damien gave me one last look, and as he turned away, he dropped his final word: "Lucas. Have her gone by tomorrow night."

"That won't be necessary."

The words came out before my brain caught up.

I stood up. I didn't know why my voice was so steady — my insides had already shattered.

I lifted my chin and looked straight at the man towering over me.

To hell with it. To hell with centuries of legacy. To hell with this whole room full of arrogant bastards who couldn't manage basic decency.

"Let me be clear, Alpha." My voice didn't shake. I was almost impressed with myself.

"First — your brother pursued me. I didn't scheme my way in."

"Second — up until yesterday, I knew nothing about his background."

"Third — believe it or not, I have zero interest in the Blackwood family's money or reputation."

I didn't wait for a response. I turned and walked.

Lucas caught up with me at the elevator, grabbing my arm. "Ella, wait — let me take you home."

"Take me home?" I pulled free. "Back to your apartment, so I can keep being your secret? Keep getting called your plaything by your pack?"

"That's not — I'll talk to my brother again—"

"Talk about what?" I met his eyes. "About how you stood there and didn't say a single word while I was being humiliated?"

His mouth opened. Nothing came out.

The elevator doors closed. I saw him reach out to stop them — too late. I didn't press the open button.

Outside, the city was hollow. One in the morning, under the overpass, nothing but scattered headlights and cold wind.

I pulled out my phone and called a car. Fifteen minutes away.

Fifteen minutes was enough. Enough to walk a little, enough to shake every image from tonight out of my head.

Lucas and I had never been from the same world. Everything between us had been a dream. It was time to wake up.

I headed south along the sidewalk, a median strip to my right, the occasional car passing on my left.

The night wind pushed down my collar and raised goosebumps along my skin.

I was typing a message to Vivian — my best friend, my emergency refuge.

My fingers hadn't finished the sentence when I heard the engine.

Not a normal engine sound. It was the deep, modified growl of something that had been built to be louder — like a beast waking up.

I looked up.

Blinding headlights, coming from behind, moving fast.

A black Maserati. No plates. Four empty lanes, and it was moving at a speed that made no sense.

And it was coming straight at me.

Drunk driver? Something else?

It didn't matter anymore. There was no time.

The impact came before the pain did — I heard the crack of bone before I felt it.

Agony tore from my waist up through my chest, and then the world spun, my body launched into the air, tumbling through cold darkness before slamming down onto the wet asphalt.

Blood — my blood — warm, everywhere, pooling against my cheek, my vision drowning in red.

Am I dying?

Footsteps. Far away. Getting closer.

In the last moment before the darkness took me, I saw a tall black silhouette burst through the doors of the building across the street.

Lucas?

He seemed to be shouting something. I couldn't hear it anymore.

Then everything was swallowed by black.

I was sure I was dead.

Until I opened my eyes again.

My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.

But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.

In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.

"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.

I ran away for my life!
