Slut-Shame Me? You Messed with the Wrong Woman
Fuzzy Melissa · Completed · 7.3k Words
Introduction
In my last life, when those fabricated hotel records went viral on the company Slack, I scrambled to explain. I cried. I begged.
What I got was a suspension, a blacklist, and a foster mother who died on a hospital bed because I could no longer pay for her meds.
The person who started it all? Walked right over my corpse into a partnership.
Then I opened my eyes—and I was back. Three days before the promotion list dropped.
I stared at the pixelated "explicit screenshot" on my screen, and I didn't cry. Didn't rage.
I just smiled and hit screen record.
This time, I'm not proving I'm clean.
I'm proving they're guilty.
Chapter 1
"Sloane, where there's smoke, there's fire. If you're really clean, why is it only burning you?"
Ding.
The Slack notification cut through the silent office like a scalpel.
I stared at my triple monitors, vision sharpening from blur to crystal. The AC raised goosebumps on my forearms—undeniably real.
No free-fall from the Brooklyn Bridge. No ice-black water filling my lungs.
I was back. Three days before Apex Capital announced its new partner class.
On my center screen, the company-wide Slack channel was lighting up like a switchboard in hell.
A pinned anonymous post sat at the top with three high-res images attached.
[BREAKING: Apex's rags-to-riches Cinderella, Sloane has apparently been fucking her way to the top with a senior partner. Hotel records and explicit chat screenshots attached. So that's how you make partner at Apex—on your back?]
The channel detonated. Five hundred replies in under ten seconds.
[Jesus. She always dressed so buttoned-up. Guess the real show happened after hours?]
[No wonder a nobody with zero connections landed all those marquee clients. Now we know the price of admission.]
[She's an embarrassment to the brand. How does someone like that belong here?]
I stared at the filth scrolling across my screen, fingers hovering over the keyboard.
My heart hammered—not from fear, but from something hotter. The kind of molten fury that only comes from clawing your way back from the grave.
Last time, at this exact moment, I'd been shaking so hard I could barely type.
I went rabid in that chat—explaining it wasn't me, insisting I'd been in Boston on a client trip, pointing out that the syntax in those screenshots didn't match my writing style.
Nobody listened.
People only believe the truth they want—and what they wanted was simple: a woman who climbed from nothing must have spread her legs to get there.
My defense became proof of guilt.
I lost the promotion. The firm fired me for "severe reputational harm." My foster mother died because I couldn't cover her treatment. And I stepped off the Brooklyn Bridge.
"Sloane, are you okay?"
A honeyed voice from the next workstation.
Camilla approached carrying a latte, stilettos clicking against marble. Concern painted across her face—but the excitement behind her eyes? She couldn't quite hide that.
At Apex, someone else's scandal was the ultimate spectator sport.
"The stuff in the channel…" She leaned in, manicured hand on my desk. "Don't let it get to you.
"I know you're not that kind of person—even though those screenshots look incredibly real. Do you want me to go to HR with you? Vouch for you?"
I lifted my head. Held her gaze, steady and flat.
There's always someone who wears compassion like a costume, just to get a front-row seat to your drowning.
"Explain what, exactly?" My voice came out flat and frigid.
Camilla blinked. She clearly hadn't expected anything other than tears and panic.
"Explain that… that you didn't do any of this? Sloane, if you don't get ahead of this right now, people are going to take your silence as confirmation—"
I was already turning away, pulling up my screen-capture suite.
"Timestamp—locked." Barely a murmur, fingers flying. "Originating IP—captured. Every account that amplified or reposted—exported."
A lifetime of blood lessons had taught me one truth: never prove your innocence to people who've already decided to kill you.
The moment you start defending yourself, you've lost.
I wasn't playing defense this time. I was flipping the goddamn table.
Once every piece of evidence was archived and hashed, I switched back to Slack. Under my real name, I typed a single message into the five-thousand-person feed and hit Enter.
[@Anonymous poster — Regarding the defamatory content targeting me in this channel, I will say this once.
-
I will not explain my private life. I will not prove a negative.
-
I demand the poster immediately produce: unedited hotel surveillance footage, original booking invoices free of manipulation, and a forensic physical extraction of the device containing the alleged chat logs.
-
Date. Location. Transaction records. Payment receipts. You have three minutes.
Fail to produce a legally admissible evidence chain within that window, and I will file a criminal complaint with NYPD and simultaneously initiate civil litigation against every account involved in the creation or dissemination of this material.
Clock starts now.]
The instant I posted, the channel went dead silent. Ten full seconds of nothing.
Five thousand people, frozen mid-keystroke.
Zero tears, zero justification—nothing but raw legal threat delivered with the precision of a guillotine blade.
Camilla was still beside my desk, color drained from her face.
"Are you serious right now? You're going to blow this up—what will the senior partners think?"
"Blow it up?"
I swiveled to face her with a thin, mocking smile. "I'm not afraid of a bigger fire. I'm only afraid it won't burn bright enough to flush out the rat."
The seconds ticked by. Not a single new screenshot appeared.
The trolls who'd been piling on were now frantically unsending messages, gray "deleted" placeholders multiplying like redactions in a classified file.
Three minutes. Done.
Right in front of Camilla, I picked up my phone and dialed Maeve Carver.
She was the most feared plaintiff's attorney in the five boroughs—the press called her "the Shark" and meant it as understatement.
In my last life, she'd tried to drag me out of my spiral, and I'd been too broken to accept her help.
Not this time.
The line connected on the first ring.
Before Maeve could say hello, I was already talking:
"It's Sloane Pierce. I've preserved and hashed every piece of defamation evidence from Apex's internal network. I need you to draft a complaint—and trace an anonymized IP and its fund flow. Dark web routing. Right now."
A beat of silence. Then Maeve's voice—sharp with delight:
"There she is. Push everything to my server. I'll help you rip them apart."
I hung up and grabbed my coat in one fluid motion.
Camilla flinched—a full half-step backward, latte sloshing over the rim and spattering her ivory blouse.
She didn't even notice. The mask she wore every day had cracked clean through.
"Where are you going?" Her voice pitched higher than intended. "Sloane, if you take this to the police, the partners will be livid—"
"NYPD Cyber Crime Division." I stepped close and dropped my voice to a whisper.
"Do me a favor, Camilla. Pass along a message." I pulled back just enough to lock eyes. "Defamation damages. Ten million dollars."
I held her gaze, enunciating every syllable.
"Whoever's behind that post? Tell them to start selling everything they own."

"What about Regina's blood transfusions?"

Looking at the pitiful, tearful girl before her, Arabella smiled.
No more soft-heartedness.
No more groveling.
Instead, she "kindly" arranged for Regina to move into the servants' quarters, to earn her own living through honest labor.
Faced with her brothers who sided with her, she no longer bothered to please them.
And towards her former fiancé, Theodore, whom she had once fawned over, she remained cold, distant, and indifferent.
Moreover, in this life, they would discover that her identity was far more than just the eldest daughter of the Oberon family.
