THE ALPHA'S CHAMPION
Goodness Ogu · Ongoing · 55.7k Words
Introduction
During a championship fight, her opponent transforms into a werewolf in front of thousands of spectators. Naya defeats him with one impossible punch, exposing a supernatural ability hidden inside her blood.
The werewolf world quickly discovers that Naya is the last descendant of the Aureline warrior women, an ancient bloodline capable of killing Alpha Kings and breaking supernatural bonds.
Thirty-four-year-old Caelan Veyr, the powerful Alpha Sovereign of Veyr, offers Naya protection if she enters the Bloodmoon Tournament as his kingdom’s champion. When she refuses, he reveals a more dangerous truth: Naya is his fated mate.
Under Veyrian law, a mate must submit to the ruling Alpha.
Naya has spent her entire life refusing to submit to anyone.
As she enters the tournament, Naya discovers that the competition is actually a centuries-old blood ritual designed to preserve Alpha power. She must face rival champions, political enemies, a rebel faction, and the secrets surrounding her family’s supposed death.
But the greatest threat may be the truth about her mother, who is still alive and expects Naya to complete a mission passed down through generations:
Make Caelan love her.
Then kill him before he becomes king.
Chapter 1
Naya Carter was three seconds away from winning the biggest fight of her career.
The crowd had become one enormous sound.
Forty thousand people filled Madison Square Garden, shouting her name, stomping against the metal seats, and pounding the barricades surrounding the cage. Their voices rolled over Naya like thunder, but she had learned years ago how to shut out everything except the person standing in front of her.
Jarek Voss was bleeding from his eyebrow.
He should have been on the floor.
Naya had landed a clean elbow against his temple less than a minute ago. Most fighters would have staggered. Some would have dropped. Jarek had only blinked, wiped the blood from his eye, and charged again.
He was too fast for a man his size.
Too strong, too.
Naya slipped beneath his hook and drove her fist into his ribs. The impact should have folded him. Instead, Jarek grunted and took another step forward.
His left hand went straight to his wrist.
Not his ribs. Not his face.
His wrist.
Naya backed away, studying him through the sweat sliding into her eyes.
The black mark on the inside of his wrist had been there since the first round. At first, she had thought it was a tattoo. Now the skin around it looked burned, puckered at the edges. The symbol resembled three crooked lines twisted around a dark center.
Her trainer’s voice came back to her.
Notice everything.
Mara had said it so often that Naya could hear her even over the crowd.
The foot that turns before a kick. The shoulder that rises before a punch. The hand that protects something more important than the body.
Jarek’s hand covered the mark again.
Naya’s mouth tasted of blood. Her own, probably. She had taken a hard strike to the cheek in the second round, but it had not slowed her. Nothing had.
The championship belt waited somewhere beyond the cage. The contract bonus would change her life. No more sleeping in a cramped apartment with a broken heater. No more wondering whether the next injury would end everything. No more pretending she was one good fight away from security when security had never once belonged to her.
Three seconds remained on the clock.
Jarek came at her.
Naya planted her feet and moved to the side. His fist grazed her hair. She answered with a knee to his stomach, then a sharp elbow across his jaw.
His head snapped back.
The bell rang.
The crowd exploded.
Naya lowered her hands, but Jarek did not.
He stood in front of her, chest rising and falling too quickly. His expression had changed. The desperation in his eyes no longer looked like the hunger of a fighter who wanted to win.
It looked like fear.
Jarek glanced toward the arena entrance.
Then toward the ceiling.
Then back at Naya.
“Run when the lights go out,” he whispered.
Naya frowned.
“What?”
The arena lights flickered.
For half a second, darkness swallowed the cage.
When the lights returned, Jarek was screaming.
His body folded in on itself.
A crack traveled through his spine. Then another. His shoulders jerked violently, and his arms twisted at angles no human body could survive. The referee stumbled backward, shouting for security.
Naya froze.
She had seen broken bones. She had seen men torn open by kicks and women fight through dislocated shoulders. She had never seen a body change.
Jarek’s jaw stretched until it split at the corners.
The sound of tearing flesh vanished beneath the crowd’s first scream.
His shirt burst across his back. Gray hair pushed through the skin. His fingers lengthened, nails thickening into black claws. Something snapped beneath his ribs, and the bones beneath the skin rearranged themselves with brutal speed.
People began rushing toward the exits.
The cage shook as security guards flooded the floor below. Someone shouted that it was an attack. Another voice screamed for everyone to get down.
Jarek fell to all fours.
No.
Not Jarek.
A huge gray wolf stood where the man had been.
Its shoulders rose nearly to Naya’s chest. Its eyes were pale and fixed on her with a terrible intelligence. Blood dripped from its mouth, but the creature did not look injured.
It looked trapped.
The referee ran.
The wolf turned its head toward him.
Naya stepped between them without thinking.
The creature’s gaze returned to her.
For one strange second, the noise around them faded. The wolf stared at her as if it knew her. Not recognized her from the fight. Knew her.
Then the cage door burst open.
Security guards raised their weapons.
“Down!” one of them yelled.
The first shot cracked through the arena.
The bullet struck the wolf’s shoulder. It tore through fur and flesh, but the wound closed before the creature finished turning.
The second bullet struck its side.
The wolf barely noticed.
Panic consumed the arena.
People climbed over seats. Others fell beneath the stampede. The giant screens above the cage showed the creature from every angle, broadcasting its transformation to the entire world.
The wolf lunged.
Naya saw the movement before it happened.
Its weight shifted backward. The right shoulder dipped. The hind legs gathered beneath its body.
Mara’s voice cut through her mind.
Notice everything.
The wolf launched itself at her.
Naya caught its foreleg with both hands.
The impact drove her backward. Her heels scraped against the canvas, and pain shot through her shoulders. The creature was heavier than any opponent she had faced, but its momentum gave her something to use.
She twisted.
The wolf sailed past her centerline.
Naya pivoted with it, planted one foot, and drove her fist into its throat.
The strike landed with a deep, ugly sound.
The wolf flew sideways.
It hit the cage hard enough to bend the metal. The entire structure groaned. The creature slid to the mat, claws scratching uselessly against the canvas.
For several seconds, nobody moved.
Then the wolf began to change again.
Its body shuddered. Gray fur withdrew. Bones cracked back into place. The claws split into fingers. The enormous creature collapsed into the broken, bleeding body of Jarek Voss.
Naya stood over him, her fist still raised.
Jarek’s eyes found hers.
They were human now.
Terrified.
He tried to breathe, but something wet filled his throat.
Naya crouched beside him.
“Stay with me,” she said.
Jarek’s gaze moved past her toward the cameras hanging above the cage.
“They saw,” he whispered.
“Who?”
His fingers closed around her wrist with surprising strength.
“Your mother lied.”
Naya stared at him.
She had not heard that name spoken aloud in years.
Her mother.
The woman Maris said had died before the fire.
“What did you say?”
Jarek’s grip weakened.
“Don’t let them…” He coughed, and blood spilled across his lips. “Take your blood.”
His hand fell away.
The referee was shouting for medical personnel. Security guards surrounded the cage with weapons aimed in every direction. The crowd had gone strangely quiet, as if forty thousand people had forgotten how to make a sound.
Jarek did not move again.
Naya remained beside him until two paramedics climbed into the cage and pulled her back.
She barely heard the announcement declaring her the winner.
Her name echoed through the arena.
The announcer called it the most shocking knockout in championship history. The commentators shouted over each other, arguing about special effects, illegal substances, hidden technology, anything that could explain what the cameras had captured.
Naya heard none of it clearly.
Her attention stayed on the blood drying across her knuckles.
It was darker than ordinary blood.
Not red.
Almost black.
A medic tried to wrap her hand. Naya pulled away.
“I’m fine.”
“You just punched through a cage.”
“I’m fine.”
The medic looked at her as if he wanted to argue, then thought better of it.
They led her through a service corridor beneath the arena. People crowded behind barricades, shouting questions.
“Did you know he was a monster?”
“Was this part of the fight?”
“What happened to his body?”
“Are you connected to the attack?”
Naya kept walking.
Her legs felt steady. Her mind did not.
Maris would know what to do.
Maris always knew what to do.
Naya reached for her phone, but before she could unlock it, two men in black suits stepped in front of her.
“No interviews,” one of them said.
“I’m not giving an interview.”
“You need medical evaluation.”
“I have a medical team.”
“They’re not equipped for this.”
Naya stopped.
The man on the left had no visible weapon, but his posture suggested he did not need one. The man on the right wore a silver ring shaped like a wolf’s head.
Naya looked at it.
He noticed.
His hand closed over the ring.
Something cold moved through the corridor.
Not fear.
Recognition without memory.
Naya took one step back.
The suited men moved with her.
By the time she reached for the nearest wall, a sharp sting pierced the side of her neck.
The corridor tilted.
Naya swung at the man who had injected her, but her fist slowed halfway there. Her muscles turned heavy. The lights above her stretched into white lines.
She heard someone say, “Careful. The Sovereign wants her conscious.”
Then darkness folded over her.
When Naya opened her eyes, she was in a private medical room.
The walls were white. The air smelled of disinfectant and metal. A scanner stood beside the bed, its narrow screen glowing with unreadable symbols.
Her wrists were not restrained.
That was almost worse.
Naya sat up slowly.
A glass wall separated the room from a dark corridor outside. On the other side stood a tall man with black hair, broad shoulders, and a face that gave nothing away.
He looked too composed for someone who had just witnessed a supernatural creature tear through an arena.
Behind his reflection, Naya saw something impossible.
A wolf with silver eyes stood over his shoulder.
She blinked.
The wolf remained.
The man stepped closer to the glass.
“You have just killed a member of my court,” he said.
Naya swung her legs over the side of the bed.
“I defended myself.”
“You exposed us.”
“Then you should have kept your people out of my fight.”
His gaze traveled over her face, then to her injured knuckles.
“You do not understand what you have done.”
“Try me.”
The man’s eyes turned gold.
Naya rose from the bed.
Every instinct she had told her to create distance, but the room was too small and the door was locked. She lifted her fists anyway.
For the first time, the man’s expression changed.
Not fear.
Interest.
“And now,” he said, “every Alpha in the world knows you exist.”
The scanner beside Naya began screaming.
A red light flashed across its screen.
The man turned sharply toward it.
Naya looked down at the wires attached to her chest. The machine displayed a line of symbols, then erased them. Another line appeared.
The sound grew louder.
A technician rushed into the corridor and stared at the screen through the glass.
“No,” he said.
The man with the golden eyes stepped toward the door.
“What is it?”
The technician swallowed.
“We can’t identify her blood.”
Naya’s pulse began to race.
The scanner shrieked again.
Then the technician whispered, “It’s not registering as human.”

My Perverse: You're mine, you son of a bitch
Vincenzo Valentini is a man who sees the world as a business counter and human beings as merchandise.
The owner of an empire built upon corpses and submission, he is the reflection of pure perversity.
When fate places Andrew Thompson, the son of his greatest rival, into his hands, the plan was simple: use him, break him, and discard him like a toy that has lost its appeal.
