Chapter 1

“All Hail the Alpha!”

The happiness in the rose of the crowd was impossible to ignore. The guests present all screamed in celebration of this special occasion. They were about to witness their alpha and the love of his life come together in matrimony.

One year ago, they had celebrated him as the heir of the pack, he would only be crowned the alpha of the pack after he found his mate. This was a prerequisite for being an alpha.

And now, he was ready to marry and crown his mate as the Luna. He had searched for her for years. Now, he had finally found her. And he was certain about never wanting to lose her.

“You look so beautiful and impossible to resist, my Luna,” Alpha Chase said, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

Roetta smiled. “And you look dangerously handsome, my Alpha.” She playfully pinched his cheek.

Chase pouted. “That’s all I get? A pinch?”

She giggled. “Well, it suits you.”

“I’m not some kid you bribe with candy,” he whined. “At least give me a kiss on the lips.”

Roetta laughed. “Honey, I don’t want to mess up my makeup.”

Chase raised an eyebrow. “So, your makeup’s more important than your mate?”

She stayed silent, smirking as she glanced at him sideways and gave a teasing wink.

“Don’t you dare say yes,” he warned, and she burst out laughing.

“You asked a question, I was just thinking about the answer,” she said between laughs.

“You can’t love makeup more than me, Roetta,” he said, pulling her into a warm hug.

She kissed him quickly on the lips. “There.”

He pouted again. “That was way too short.”

“Stop being naughty, darling. I know exactly what you’re thinking.” She tapped his nose and turned to leave, but he pulled her back and kissed her deeply.

Roetta gave in without hesitation. So much for saving her makeup. Her hands wrapped around his neck as she kissed him back, pouring all her love into that moment. Chase pulled her close by the waist, teasing her lips with his until she responded just as boldly.

When they finally pulled apart, breathless, Roetta covered her face, cheeks burning.

“What? Is my mate getting shy now?” Chase teased.

“Don’t talk to me,” she mumbled and ran off, her face flushed.

Chase laughed. Roetta always found a way to make him smile. Then he realized—they were supposed to enter the hall together.

“Wait for me!” he called, running after her. He caught up just as she was about to step down the stairs.

“Were you planning to go without me, sweetheart?” he teased.

“Of course not. If I were, you wouldn’t have caught up to me,” she replied with a smile.

They laced their fingers together, ready to be introduced to the pack and elders.

Lestus, his beta approached and bowed.

Chase turned to him. His gaze turning cold. “How’s the security?”

“Alpha,” Lestus said respectfully, “we’ve placed guards at all borders. The palace and entrances are surrounded. Everything is secured.”

“Good,” Chase nodded. “I don’t want any mistakes today. Enemies strike during big events. Guard this place like your life depends on it.”

“It will be done, Alpha.” Lestus bowed again.

Chase gave Roetta’s hand a firm squeeze. They exchanged a glance.

“Nervous?” he asked gently.

“As long as I’m with you, I’m fine,” she said, smiling up at him.

“You ready?”

She nodded. Lestus signaled to the guards, and they took their positions.

“Presenting our honorable Alpha and Luna!” the elderly Beta called.

The crowd rose to their feet, eyes turning toward the couple. Their applause rang through the air, vibrating off the walls of the mansion.

Chase held Roetta’s hand as they descended the staircase slowly and gracefully. Applause still sounding like thunder from across the hall.

They walked together to the thrones in the center. As they approached, the clapping continued. They bowed to the pack elders and Chase’s parents before taking their seats. The rest of the room followed, sitting down in silence.

Chase looked around, pleased. The decorations had taken weeks to prepare, but it was all worth it—for Roetta. Her smile when she saw the setup made it all perfect. And he hadn’t even revealed the surprise meal the maids had cooked just for her.

He glanced to his right and caught his parents beaming at him, proud and joyful.

Soon, the coronation rituals began. In most packs, the heir doesn’t become Alpha until the current one dies. But not in Rakmoon. Here, the new Alpha is crowned once he finds his mate—together, they’re presented as the next leaders.

After the rites, Chase was officially declared Alpha of the Rakmoon Pack, and Roetta, his Luna.

The hall shook with cheers. Chase looked at Roetta, his heart full. He was proud of himself—but even more proud of her.

The couple stood and began greeting their guests.

“Roetta, you look stunning tonight,” Chase’s mother said warmly.

“Thank you, Mother. I owe it all to you,” Roetta replied with a respectful bow.

“I’m so happy you were chosen for my son. Congratulations to you both,” his father added.

“Thank you,” they said together.

Chase smiled. “You can see I have the most beautiful Luna in history, right?”

“Yes, you do. She’s one in a million,” his mother replied.

“She’s one in a billion, actually. No—more than a billion,” Chase said, beaming at Roetta.

He was undeniably happy.

“You’re right, son,” his father agreed.

“You’re flattering me too much,” Roetta said, blushing.

“I flatter you because it’s the truth,” he replied.

“Ah, the youth these days,” his mother teased with a playful scoff, making them all laugh.

“I’m sure you and Dad were just as bad with Grandpa and Grandma,” Chase grinned. “We’re just carrying on the tradition.”

They all laughed again.

“Alpha Chase!”

Chase turned and saw Zeran, his longtime friend, walking toward them. They embraced tightly.

“You actually came? I thought you’d be too busy,” Chase said, surprised.

“I wouldn’t miss your coronation for anything,” Zeran replied. He turned to Roetta. “And congratulations to our Luna.” He shook her hand warmly.

“Thank you,” she smiled.

“You’re really an Alpha now. I’m so happy for you,” Zeran said.

“Thanks, man.”

Zeran grinned. “Why don’t you take your Luna to the dance floor?”

“I was thinking the same thing,” Chase said, turning to Roetta. “May I have this dance, my lady?”

Roetta smiled. “Of course.”

She reached out to take his hand—

But before she could, two arrows came out of nowhere and struck her chest.

The room froze.

No one saw where the arrows had come from. It happened so fast.

Chase’s eyes went wide in horror. “Roetta!” he screamed, catching her as she fell into his arms.

"I'm afraid that's impossible."

Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
