dorisozioma2 · Ongoing · 40.1k Words
Introduction
Kael Arden is no ordinary man. He is Alpha of the Shadowclaw Pack, bound by a curse that has destroyed every human woman who dared to love him. He swore never to claim a mate again, or to risk another innocent life. Until Clara’s touch heals what should have been fatal, and awakens a bond that should not exist.
Now Clara is hunted by rivals who see her as the key to Kael’s downfall, and despised by wolves who call her unworthy of their Alpha. Torn between her humanity and the fierce call of the wolf bond, she must choose: walk away from the man who could ruin her career and life, or fight beside him against enemies who would see them both destroyed.
But Kael has only one choice left. And this time, fate has given him something to lose.
Chapter 1
Shattered Vows
Clara's POV
The champagne bottle hits the wall with a satisfying crash, spraying glass and golden liquid across David's pristine hardwood floor. My engagement ring follows, bouncing off his shocked face before clattering somewhere in the darkness.
"Clara, wait…" David scrambles off the bed, naked and pathetic, while my former best friend Sarah pulls the sheets up to cover herself. The same sheets I helped him pick out last month when we were planning our future together.
"Wait for what?" My voice comes out raw and broken. "For you to explain how you ended up inside my best friend on the night we were supposed to celebrate our engagement?"
Sarah won't even look at me. Three years of friendship, gone. Just like that.
"It's not what you think…"
"It's exactly what I think." I grab my purse from the dresser, my hands shaking so badly I can barely hold it. "We're done, David. We're so fucking done."
The rain hits me the moment I step outside, soaking through my silk dress, the one I bought specifically for tonight, that cost half my monthly salary because I wanted to look perfect for our announcement dinner. The irony makes me want to scream.
My heels slip on the wet pavement as I run down the street, not caring where I'm going, just needing to get away from the sight of them together. The storm matches my mood perfectly… violent, unpredictable, destructive. Thunder crashes overhead, and I tilt my face up to the sky, letting the rain wash away my tears.
How could I have been so blind? All those late nights David claimed to be working, all those times Sarah was "too busy" to hang out. They were together. Probably laughing at stupid little Clara who believed in fairy tales and happy endings.
I trip over a crack in the sidewalk and stumble, catching myself against a streetlight. My dress is ruined, my makeup probably running down my face like some tragic movie scene. But I don't care anymore. Nothing matters anymore.
That's when I see him.
At first, I think it's just a pile of discarded clothes in the alley between two buildings. But as I get closer, lightning illuminates the scene, and I realize it's a man. He's lying on his side in a growing pool of what looks like blood, his dark hair plastered to his head by the rain.
"Oh my God." I rush toward him, my medical training kicking in despite my emotional state. "Sir? Can you hear me?"
He doesn't respond. I kneel beside him, not caring that the dirty alley water soaks through my dress. The amount of blood is staggering, no one should lose this much and still be breathing. But his chest rises and falls steadily, and when I check his pulse, it's strong and steady.
The wounds on his torso look like claw marks. Deep, vicious gouges that should have killed him, but they're not bleeding as heavily as they should be. Actually, they look like they're already starting to close at the edges, which is impossible.
I press my hands against the worst of the wounds, trying to stem the bleeding. "Stay with me," I whisper. "I'm going to help you."
His eyes snap open.
They're silver. Not gray or blue-gray, but actual silver, like mercury in moonlight. For a moment, I think I'm hallucinating from shock and stress. No one has eyes that color.
A low sound rumbles from his throat, not quite human, almost like a...
"Leave." His voice is rough, commanding, despite his condition. "Get away from me."
"You're bleeding to death," I say, applying more pressure to his wounds. "I'm a doctor. Let me help you."
"I said leave!" The growl that tears from his throat is definitely not human. It's primal, dangerous, the kind of sound that triggers every survival instinct I have.
But I don't move.
Maybe it's because I'm already broken tonight, past the point of caring about my own safety. Probably because those silver eyes hold the same pain I'm feeling. Or was it's something else entirely, something I can't explain, a pull toward him that defies logic.
"No," I say firmly. "I'm not leaving you here to die."
Our eyes lock, and something electric passes between us. The rain seems to slow around us, the world narrowing to just this moment, just the two of us in this dirty alley. His wounds are still bleeding, but less now, and I swear I can see them actually healing under my touch.
"You don't know what you're doing," he whispers, but the fight has gone out of his voice.
"I know exactly what I'm doing." I strip off my ruined jacket and press it against his chest. "I'm saving your life."
He laughs, a bitter sound. "You might be destroying your own."
"My life was already destroyed tonight." The words slip out before I can stop them, raw and honest. "At least this destruction might mean something."
He studies my face, those impossible eyes seeing more than I want them to. "What happened to you?"
"Does it matter?" I shake my head. "We need to get you to a hospital."
"No hospitals." His hand covers mine where it presses against his chest, and heat shoots through me at the contact. "No doctors."
"I am a doctor."
"Then you know I should be dead already."
He's right. With wounds like these, blood loss like this, he should have been gone before I found him. Yet here he is, talking to me, his color already better than when I first knelt beside him.
"What are you?" I whisper.
His grip on my hand tightens. "Someone you should run from."
But I don't run. Can't run. Whatever this is… this strange pull between us, this impossible healing happening under my touch… it's the first thing that's felt real all night.
"I'm Clara," I say instead.
He's quiet for so long I think he won't answer. Then, so quietly I almost miss it over the rain: "Kael."
Lightning flashes again, illuminating his face, and I see something in those silver eyes that mirrors what I'm feeling… recognition, like we've been looking for each other without knowing it.
"Clara," he repeats, and the way he says my name sends shivers through me that have nothing to do with the cold rain.
I don't know what I've stumbled into tonight, but I know there's no going back. Whatever David and Sarah destroyed in me, whatever Kael is about to awaken… it all started here, in this alley, with blood on my hands and silver eyes that see straight through to my soul.
The storm rages on around us, but something inside me has gone perfectly still.

Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
Falling for my boyfriend's Navy brother
"What is wrong with me?
Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.
He’s my boyfirend’s brother.
This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.

**
I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.
Especially not her.
Especially not someone like her.
She’s not my problem.
And I’ll make damn sure she never becomes one.
But when my eyes fell on her lips, I wanted her to be mine.
Alpha Nicholas's Little Mate
What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.
Please tell me you're joking, Lex.
But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.

The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.
