The Fiancé Who Left Me to Burn
Agatha Christie · Completed · 7.8k Words
Introduction
In the middle of a raging forest fire, my fiancé Carter Hayes was piloting a fuel-leaking helicopter, forced to choose between me and my cousin Lily Sterling.
He chose me.
Lily was left behind in the inferno. She burned.
I thought surviving made me lucky — until my parents slapped me across the face at my wedding. "Why wasn't it YOU who died?"
Turns out, I was never the one they wanted to save.
Carter married me, then spent five years making me wish I'd died in that fire instead. He and my parents worked together, systematically stripping away my dignity, my career, and every reason I had to keep living.
Three years into my depression, I jumped from the top floor of the Hayes estate.
When I opened my eyes, I found myself back before the fire — before the helicopter took off, before Carter made his choice.
This time, I spoke first. "Take Lily."
If they all wanted me dead, then I'd give them exactly what they wanted.
Chapter 1
"We can only take one more person! Any heavier and we ALL go down!"
Violet's POV
"DAMN IT! Fuel line's blown!"
Carter Hayes's shout rang in my ears, and suddenly I understood — I'd been reborn.
The same scene. The same words. Even the wall of flames closing in around us — everything was identical to my previous life.
The helicopter was leaking fuel and overloaded. Only room for one more person.
Carter had to stay and pilot. That left one escape seat.
"Carter, PLEASE!" Lily grabbed his flight suit with both hands, her voice shrill with terror. "You CAN'T leave me here!"
Carter's eyes darted between me and Lily, sweat pouring down his face.
I could see the hesitation clearly.
It all came rushing back — he'd ultimately gritted his teeth and chosen me, his "official fiancée." But that choice had destroyed everyone.
"Violet, get in! NOW!" Carter finally made his decision and reached for my hand. "We're out of time!"
I took a deep breath and stepped back.
"I'll stay. Take Lily."
Carter froze, eyes wide.
Then I saw it — that flash of relief.
"Violet, are you sure—" His words tumbled out fast, afraid I'd change my mind.
"I'm sure." I cut him off and even forced a smile. "Go. You don't have much fuel left."
Carter immediately helped Lily into the helicopter.
"Violet, hang on!" Carter shouted back before closing the door. "I'll get Lily to the safe zone and send a rescue team right back for you! I SWEAR!"
He moved fast. Too fast.
The helicopter took off, its massive rotors drowning out everything else. I stood there watching it disappear into the smoke-filled sky.
I laughed bitterly.
How did I miss it in my past life? How had I not seen who he really wanted to save?
In my previous life, after we'd been rescued, we'd immediately contacted the search team.
But by the time they'd arrived, the area where Lily had been was already consumed by flames.
They'd only found a charred body.
At Lily's funeral, my parents — Lily's adoptive parents — had slapped me in front of everyone.
"Why wasn't it YOU?" my mother had screamed hysterically. "Lily lost her parents when she was just a child! You're her SISTER — you should have given her that seat!"
My father had said nothing. He'd just stared at me with the eyes of someone looking at a murderer — cold, merciless.
The most ironic part was that Carter had remained calm at the funeral. He'd even "protected" me, blocking my parents when they'd tried to attack me again.
Back then, watching the grief he was hiding, I'd thought he was just trying to hold it together.
I'd felt so guilty I'd wanted to cancel the engagement — after all, Lily and Carter had grown up together. I'd known what they meant to each other.
After Lily had lost her parents at ten and been adopted by my family, she and Carter from next door had been inseparable.
Same schools, same vacations, even the same college.
Everyone had thought they'd end up together. Including me.
Until the Hayes family had needed an alliance with the Sterling family, and he'd "had no choice" but to choose me, the legitimate heir.
"Violet, I WILL marry you." After the funeral, he'd held my hands, eyes firm as he'd refused my suggestion to call it off.
I'd actually felt relieved then, thinking maybe he had feelings for me too.
Now I understood — he'd married me just to have a legitimate reason to torture me for the rest of my life.
Even though Lily's death hadn't been my fault, he'd still hated me.
Hated me for making him lose the person he truly loved. Hated me for taking the place that should have been Lily's.
So for five years after our marriage, he'd used every method to destroy me.
Affairs. Silent treatment. Isolation. Humiliation... until I'd developed severe depression and jumped from the top floor of the Hayes estate.
The fire around me was spreading rapidly.
The canopy began to burn with crackling sounds, thick smoke rolling toward me.
I looked around, forcing myself to stay calm.
I knew exactly how this would end. By the time rescue teams arrived, this place would be scorched earth — just like they'd been too late to save Lily in my past life.
Carter wouldn't come back in time.
Maybe wouldn't come back at all.
After all, this time he'd already saved the person he wanted to save.
Why would he risk coming back for someone expendable like me?
I took a deep breath, my eyes sharpening.
This time, I'd given Lily the chance to live. We were even now.
But I wasn't going to just wait here to die.
I turned toward the other side of the flames and began searching for a way out.

Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."

A Lesson in Magic
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
I Slapped My Fiancé—Then Married His Billionaire Nemesis
Technically, Rhys Granger was my fiancé now—billionaire, devastatingly hot, and a walking Wall Street wet dream. My parents shoved me into the engagement after Catherine disappeared, and honestly? I didn’t mind. I’d crushed on Rhys for years. This was my chance, right? My turn to be the chosen one?
Wrong.
One night, he slapped me. Over a mug. A stupid, chipped, ugly mug my sister gave him years ago. That’s when it hit me—he didn’t love me. He didn’t even see me. I was just a warm-bodied placeholder for the woman he actually wanted. And apparently, I wasn’t even worth as much as a glorified coffee cup.
So I slapped him right back, dumped his ass, and prepared for disaster—my parents losing their minds, Rhys throwing a billionaire tantrum, his terrifying family plotting my untimely demise.
Obviously, I needed alcohol. A lot of alcohol.
Enter him.
Tall, dangerous, unfairly hot. The kind of man who makes you want to sin just by existing. I’d met him only once before, and that night, he just happened to be at the same bar as my drunk, self-pitying self. So I did the only logical thing: I dragged him into a hotel room and ripped off his clothes.
It was reckless. It was stupid. It was completely ill-advised.
But it was also: Best. Sex. Of. My. Life.
And, as it turned out, the best decision I’d ever made.
Because my one-night stand isn’t just some random guy. He’s richer than Rhys, more powerful than my entire family, and definitely more dangerous than I should be playing with.
And now, he’s not letting me go.
The Forbidden Throb
Mine changed in the time it took to open a door.
Behind it: my fiancé Nicholas with another woman.
Three months until our wedding. Three seconds to watch it all burn.
I should have run. Should have screamed. Should have done anything except stand there like a fool.
Instead, I heard the devil himself whisper in my ear:
"If you're willing, I could marry you."
Daniel. The brother I was warned about. The one who made Nicholas look like a choir boy.
He leaned against the wall, watching my world implode.
My pulse thundered. "What?"
"You heard me." His eyes burned into mine. "Marry me, Emma."
But as I stared into those magnetic eyes, I realized something terrifying:
I wanted to say yes to him.
Game on.
The Biker Alpha Who Became My Second Chance Mate
"You're like a sister to me."
Those were the actual words that broke the camel's back.
Not after what just happened. Not after the hot, breathless, soul-shaking night we spent tangled in each other's arms.
I knew from the beginning that Tristan Hayes was a line I shouldn't cross.
He wasn't just anyone, he was my brother's best friend. The man I spent years secretly wanting.
But that night... we were broken. We had just buried our parents. And the grief was too heavy, too real...so I begged him to touch me.
To make me forget. To fill the silence that death left behind.
And he did. He held me like I was something fragile.
Kissed me like I was the only thing he needed to breathe.
Then left me bleeding with six words that burned deeper than rejection ever could.
So, I ran. Away from everything that cost me pain.
Now, five years later, I'm back.
Fresh from rejecting the mate who abused me. Still carrying the scars of a pup I never got to hold.
And the man waiting for me at the airport isn't my brother.
It's Tristan.
And he's not the guy I left behind.
He's a biker.
An Alpha.
And when he looked at me, I knew there was no where else to run to.

Rumors swirled about this enigmatic man—whispers claimed he was hideously ugly and too ashamed to show his face, possibly harboring dark, twisted obsessions.
Without hesitation, the Baileys sacrificed me to protect their precious biological daughter, forcing me to take her place as a pawn in this cold, calculated arrangement.
Luckily, in those four years, the mysterious husband never asked to meet in person.
Now, in the final year of our arrangement, the husband I've never met is demanding we meet face to face.
But disaster struck the night before my return—drunk and disoriented, I stumbled into the wrong hotel room and ended up sleeping with the legendary financial mogul, Caspar Thornton.

The Biker's Fate
I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Dani," he pressed. "Do you get me?"
"No, Austin, I don't," I admitted as I pulled my robe closed again and sat up. "You confuse me."
He dragged his hands down his face. "Tell me what's on your mind."
I sighed. "You're everything my parents warned me against. You're secretive, but you're also honest. I feel wholly protected by you, but then you scare me more than anyone I've ever known. You're a bad boy, but when I dated a so-called good one, he turned out to be the devil, so, yeah, I don't get you because you're not what I expected. You drive me crazier than anyone I've ever met, but then you make me feel complete. I'm feeling things I don't quite know how to process and that makes me want to run. I don't want to give up something that might be really, really good, but I also don't want to be stupid and fall for a boy just because he's super pretty and makes me come."
