The Prince at the Fable Inn
Audrey Meave · Ongoing · 33.8k Words
Introduction
After inheriting her grandmother's beautiful villa and bed-and-breakfast in the sleepy town of Fable Hollow, she expected quiet mornings, peaceful gardens, and enough inspiration to break through her terrible writer's block.
What she didn't expect was for the inn to come alive at midnight.
Doors appeared where there had been walls. Strange guests arrived dressed like characters from fairy tales. Talking animals wandered through the halls. And beyond a hidden entrance was an entirely different world filled with magic, castles, witches, fairies, dragons, and royalty.
Then there was Prince Cassian.
Handsome, mysterious, annoyingly composed—and definitely not the sort of man Maisie had expected to find staying at her grandmother's inn.
He was supposed to stay for one night.
But somehow, the prince kept coming back.
Soon, Maisie found herself sharing tea with him, exploring enchanted gardens, attending royal balls, arguing with opinionated magical creatures, and discovering a huge, majestic palace library she'd only read about in books or watched in movies.
As her writer's block disappears, something else begins to change.
The prince who first arrived as a mysterious royal guest is slowly becoming her closest friend, her favorite distraction, and perhaps the hero of a love story she never planned to write.
But in a world where fairy tales are real, Maisie is about to discover that happily-ever-after might not be something found in a book.
Sometimes, it walks through your door.
Chapter 1
When I arrived at the Fable Inn I had inherited from my grandmother, Blossom welcomed me.
She was wearing a floral apron over a plum-colored dress. Her curly, honey-brown hair was pinned up in a messy bun.
“Maisie! Oh, my stars, look at you!”
Before I could set my bag down, Blossom Plum engulfed me in a hug so tight I could barely breathe. She smelled faintly of cinnamon and dried rose petals.
“Blossom,” I choked out, laughing as she finally released me and grabbed both of my shoulders, scanning my face with fierce, motherly scrutiny. “It’s good to see you.”
“Good to see me? Girl, you’ve been away for a long time!” she declared dramatically. “Look at you! You’re skin and bones! Your cheeks are pale, your eyes have dark circles, and I bet you haven’t eaten a real meal that didn’t come out of a cardboard box in six weeks!”
“Hey, I eat salad,” I defended weakly.
“Cardboard with green leaves on it,” she scoffed, dismissing my claim with a flick of her wrist.
She picked up my heavy duffel bag and easily hoisted it onto her shoulder.
“Come inside before the afternoon breeze catches you. Honey is in the kitchen working on a fresh batch of fruit tarts, and I’ve got the kettle on.”
I followed her up the grand stone steps and through the massive double doors.
The interior of Fable House was even more breathtaking than the outside. High ceilings supported by dark wooden beams stretched overhead, lit by iron lanterns that cast a warm, golden glow across the polished hardwood floors. A massive stone fireplace dominated the main foyer, currently crackling with a small, aromatic fire despite the mild weather.
“We’ve got four vacationers staying in the west wing this week,” Blossom said, leading me down a broad corridor lined with framed landscape paintings and antique tapestries. “A lovely couple from the coast and two siblings who were always in town or reading while they relaxed. They won’t bother you.”
“That sounds perfect,” I said, looking around in awe. “I really just need to write, Blossom.”
“Well, the owner’s wing is completely untouched,” Blossom said, stopping at a grand archway at the end of the hall.
She reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a heavy brass ring.
Suspended from the ring were four oversized, oddly shaped keys. They didn’t look like modern house keys. They were thick, intricately carved, and forged from dark, antique brass that felt surprisingly warm to the touch. One key had a bow shaped like a crescent moon, another resembled a coiled leaf, and the largest one was topped with a stylized star.
“Here you go, landlady,” Blossom said, pressing the heavy ring into my palm.
I looked down at the keys, running my thumb over the cold, detailed metal.
“These look... ancient. Are these really for the private wing?”
“Every lock in this house has its own personality, Maisie,” Blossom said with a knowing, slightly cryptic smile. “Your grandmother always kept those specific keys close. The moon key opens your private sitting room, the leaf opens your garden conservatory, and the star key opens the main master suite.”
“What about the fourth key?” I asked, pointing to a slender key with no handle markings at all—just a plain, smooth rod of brass with complex notches at the tip.
Blossom’s smile twitched slightly, her eyes flickering with something I couldn’t quite read before she smoothly waved her hand.
“Oh, that’s just an old spare for the storage closets in the deep hallway. Don’t worry about that one unless you’re looking for extra blankets.”
She patted my arm affectionately, turning toward the kitchen corridor.
“Get yourself settled in your wing, Maisie. Freshen up, unpack your bags, and come down to the dining room at six. Honey is roasting a chicken with lavender and garlic, and I won’t accept any excuses about ‘work deadlines’ keeping you from the table.”
“I wouldn’t dream of missing it,” I promised.
Blossom gave me one last long, fond look, her expression softening into something deeply nostalgic.
“She’d be so happy you’re here, you know. Eveline always said this house belonged to you, long before you ever wrote a single word.”
Before I could ask what she meant by that, Blossom turned on her heel and glided down the hallway, humming a cheerful, unfamiliar tune that seemed to linger in the air long after she disappeared around the corner.
Left alone in the grand hallway, I looked down at the heavy brass ring in my hand.
The weight of the keys felt solid, real, and strangely grounding.
I turned toward the private wing of Fable House, inserted the moon-shaped key into the heavy mahogany door, and turned it. The lock gave a deep, satisfying clack, and the door swung open without a single creak.
I dragged my heavy duffel bag inside and let out a long breath.
If the public areas of Fable House were impressive, the owner’s wing was borderline ridiculous.
The main bedroom was massive, framed by high ceilings made of dark, hand-carved wooden beams. Right in the center sat a huge four-poster bed made of polished oak, draped in sheer, cream-colored linen curtains that could be pulled entirely closed around the mattress.
It looked like something straight out of a period drama—or a high-end fairytale adaptation.
Soft afternoon sunlight poured through floor-to-ceiling French doors that opened onto a private stone terrace.
I walked over to the terrace doors and pushed them open. The cool countryside breeze hit me immediately, carrying the sweet, crisp scent of wild jasmine and damp earth.
Below, a private garden unfolded in vibrant, meticulously kept layers. Rosebushes heavy with deep crimson blooms clustered around a winding gravel path, interspersed with lavender bushes, flowering shrubs, and a small orchard of peach and plum trees laden with ripening fruit.
Returning inside, I decided to tackle my luggage.
I dragged my duffel over to a set of double doors leading to the walk-in wardrobe. Built-in cedar shelves, illuminated by warm recessed lighting, lined the walls alongside full-length mirrors and custom brass hanging rods.
I unpacked my modest collection of faded jeans, oversized knit sweaters, and worn T-shirts, feeling slightly absurd as my ordinary clothes occupied roughly four percent of the massive space.
The bathroom floor was laid with cool white marble, centered around a deep, freestanding clawfoot tub big enough to double as a small swimming pool. Shiny brass fixtures gleamed beneath a crystal chandelier hanging from the vaulted ceiling.
I walked over to the clawfoot tub and turned the heavy brass faucets. Hot water gushed out, steaming instantly as I tossed in a handful of lavender bath salts I found sitting in a glass jar on the vanity.
I shut off the water, slipped into the deep, steaming bath, and sank down until the hot water reached my collarbones.
The tension that had been locked into my shoulders for the past three months in the city began to melt away, dissolved by the lavender steam and the quiet calm of the countryside.

"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
"Put her down," I try to command, panic threading through my thoughts. "You’ll hurt her."
"She’s ours," the beast insists, possessive and fierce. "Our snowflake."

Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.
He’s my boyfirend’s brother.
This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.

Entitled.

Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.

It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.

Where I End and She Begins
But when a body lies at Amelia’s feet, and her hands are covered in blood that isn’t hers, one question echoes louder than the rest:
How did it come to this?
As the school year unfolds, cracks begin to show — in friendships, in family, and in Amelia’s own mind. The lines between loyalty and control blur. Between truth and perception. Between who she is… and who she thinks she needs to be.
Because some friendships don’t just shape you.
They consume you.
And when the illusion shatters, there’s always something left behind.

"You're staring again," he whispered, his back hitting the wall.
"You're still here," I replied calmly, stepping close enough to feel his erratic pulse.

Pregnant by My Husband's Rival Alpha
Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. But when that same stranger's doctor appeared at my door, when twenty million dollars exchanged hands over a fake perfume bearing my secret identity, and when Damon's gray eyes locked onto mine with recognition I couldn't afford, I realized my carefully hidden life as the legendary perfumer Vera was colliding with a pregnancy that could cost me everything.
Could I protect my babies from the husband plotting my death, hide my true identity from the Alpha who's been hunting me for years, and reclaim the freedom I'd buried along with my dreams—even if it means standing alone against the wolves who see me as nothing more than a womb to be used and discarded?
Mafia Don Begs Me Back
Damian coldly gripped her jaw. "Vivian's condition has worsened. The surgery is set for one month from now. Don't worry — I'll find you the best burial plot, and I'll make sure your family is well provided for. You need to understand: if it weren't for your heart, you never could have become my wife, never could have become Mrs. Montgomery. You've enjoyed years of a lavish life. Now it's time to give something back."
Even the son she had raised with her own hands screamed at her: "Why won't you just die? If you die, your heart can go to Vivian! I want Vivian to be my mom!"
Elara fell apart. But she was not completely broken.
She slipped the divorce agreement into a stack of contracts that needed Damian's signature. He didn't read closely. He signed. Now, she was free.
Elara accepted the offer — Top Jewelry Appraiser, a seven-figure annual salary. She gave herself one month to say goodbye to the five years she had lost. She withdrew from Damian's life and Caleb's life, little by little, until nothing of her remained.
Until that night, when Damian watched helplessly as a bullet tore through her shoulder and she plunged into the freezing waters of the Atlantic.
"No! Elara! You are not allowed to die!"
In that moment, Damian finally understood — somewhere across those five years, he had already fallen in love with Elara. And a certain truth he had always believed in reversed itself after Elara walked away.
He had been wrong. Catastrophically wrong. Wrong from the very beginning. This proud, noble, and ruthless mafia don was consumed by remorse, and vowed to spend the rest of his life in atonement — to win back Elara, who had lost every last shred of faith in him.
"Elara, I'm begging you. Come back. Come back to me and Caleb."
"Mommy, I'm sorry. Please don't abandon me."
When Elara — now an international figure, admired and adored by countless people — comes face to face once again with the man she once loved with all her heart, and the son who once wished her dead, what choice will she make?
The Last of US
I’m not sure that was what I expected him to say, but I had been waiting to hear it. I smiled playfully, looking at him. “Yes, my king,” I said.
Moments, his lips were on mine. The kiss was soft and gentle at first, his hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me close to him; I let my arms find their way around his neck. I felt his tongue gently run along my lower lip and couldn’t help the soft moan that escaped my mouth at its touch. Von only took that as permission and slipped his tongue into my mouth; I let my tongue explore his mouth as he did the same to mine. Eventually, the kiss grew deeper, and before I knew it, I was straddling his lap in one quick motion. His hands found their way to my hair, tangled in it as he tugged it lightly in his grip. I couldn’t help moaning against his lips; a growl of pleasure came from deep in his throat.
My name is Arianna Maree Paxton however I Hate that name my parents gave me that name, after my , great-great grandmother. So I go by Ari. you see my parents are hardly that they hate me in every way possible. I am only here to be their slave and plaything, otherwise they probably would of killed me a long time ago. My family belong to a pride of snow leopards well now were more of a group then a pride most of us have died out. I have a feeling my species will be coming to a end soon and the worst part of it is that we will die with such a shameful legacy left behind one that I want no part of.
Were simply a small part of the shifter community, most every other shifter, magical beings live in harmony with humans and other beings. However, they do have their own rules they each follow but for the most part the respect each other, it doesn’t mean they share anything by any means. Each has their own schools, hospitals, and way of living but terrroity and lives are generally respected. However, I feel that is mostly in part to fear of the Royal family.
However my species is dying out because they have lost their way , when you force your leopard to do horrid things it will eventually leave you , which was what was happing all around me , when that happens you can no longer find a mate , and usually you lose your mind. Without mates we can no longer reproduce hence the feeling of the end coming soon. Or at least I thought that was the reason I have that feeling but I kind of feel like something bigger is on the way.
