But choices are difficult, and secrets run even deeper. As she becomes increasingly entangled in a web of betrayal and danger, Victoria must decide whether to follow the path of redemption or succumb to the desire for revenge...

Chapter 1

The church was immersed in solemn silence as Victoria Sinclair, radiant in her wedding dress, slowly walked down the aisle. Her heart raced with each step, and the emotion overflowed in her gaze. At the end of the journey stood Damien Ashford, the man she had dreamed of marrying since childhood.

When Victoria reached the altar, Damien reached out, holding her hand tenderly. Their eyes met, and a warm smile illuminated their faces. It was the moment they had waited for so long, and nothing else mattered but the two of them.

Before the priest, they joined in holy matrimony. The officiant's words seemed distant as if the world around them had faded away. All Victoria could feel was Damien's comforting presence and the promise of a future together.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Finally, the long-awaited moment arrived. The priest uttered the words that would allow Damien to kiss his wife for the first time. With unmatched tenderness, he leaned in towards her, their lips meeting in a gentle and promising kiss.

The passionate kiss expressed the joy they both felt in their hearts. They were finally united as husband and wife, ready to face any adversity life might bring.

As they got lost in the moment, the guests began to applaud, filling the church with enthusiasm. Among them was Amelia Turner, Victoria's best friend, and maid of honor. She approached with a radiant smile, brimming with happiness for the couple.

"Victoria, you look incredible! Congratulations, my dear!" exclaimed Amelia, excitedly. She then lightly tapped the groom's arm and continued, "Damien, you're so lucky to have this wonderful woman by your side. Take good care of her, alright?"

"Thank you, Amelia. I truly am the luckiest man in the world," Damien said, smiling at Victoria.

"I'm the luckiest woman in the world," Victoria affirmed, looking at her husband with love. "I never thought this day would come, but I'm so glad it was you."

"Ahem," Amelia coughed, grabbing the couple's attention. "You're welcome, lovebirds."

"Thank you, Amelia. If it weren't for you insisting that we go to that lunch, I would have never reconnected with Damien, and none of this would have happened," Victoria expressed her gratitude. She extended her hand toward her friend. "It means so much to have you here with me on this special day. You're like a sister to me."

"You're welcome, sis," replied Amelia.

The Plaza Ballroom in New York shimmered with the elegance and refinement of Victoria Sinclair and Damien Ashford's wedding. Guests mingled amid laughter and lively conversations, while the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and happiness. Victoria and Damien, radiant, moved among the attendees, receiving greetings and congratulations.

Amid the crowd, Ethan Blackwood appeared as a rival of Damien in the investment circles. A mischievous smile played on his lips as he approached the couple. His eyes met the bride's, and Victoria felt a shiver run down her spine. She was well aware of the animosity between her husband and Ethan, and the rival's presence on her special day was a provocation she had not expected.

"Ashford, my old friend," Ethan said with an ironic tone. "Luck smiled upon you, didn't it? You managed to marry the billionaire heiress of the Sinclairs."

Damien furrowed his brow, his eyes sparking with anger. He approached Ethan, swallowing the contempt he felt.

"You have no right to speak like that, Blackwood," he retorted, his voice tense. "My marriage to Victoria has nothing to do with business. It is a union based on love and respect."

"Love and respect. Those two words coming out of your mouth, Ashford, that's new," Ethan remarked.

"You know, you should get over your jealousy," Damien whispered. "She chose me... She married me."

"Surely this union makes it easier to hide the scams in Towsand's investment funds," Ethan taunted.

Damien clenched his fists, his expression hardening. "Blackwood, this has nothing to do with you. Please keep your sharp tongue to yourself."

Victoria, struggling to maintain her composure in the face of Ethan's insult, felt fury growing within her. She approached the two men, her voice sharp and firm.

"Ethan, that's enough! You were not invited to this wedding."

Ethan seemed surprised by Victoria's enthusiastic response, but a subtle smile appeared on his face.

"Dear Victoria, I suggest you consult your wedding planner, because I was invited," Ethan replied. "By the way, who wasn't invited to the Sinclair heiress's wedding?"

"Ethan, I ask that you leave. Today is our day, and I don't want your presence here. This is a celebration of love and happiness, not a battlefield for you and Damien to resolve your differences," Victoria said firmly, looking directly into Ethan's eyes.

"Oh, Victoria, always so determined. I suppose Damien is lucky to have you by his side," Ethan commented. "But be careful, my dear friend Ashford, some secrets cannot remain hidden forever."

Ethan's words echoed in Victoria's mind, deepening her suspicion of Damien. However, she would not let him ruin her day. With a defiant look, she repeated, "Please, go away, Ethan."

Ethan gave Victoria a defiant look but decided to heed her request. He gave Damien a mocking smile before stepping away, but his eyes lingered on Victoria's determined expression. He knew she was not a woman to be trifled with.

As Ethan walked away, disappearing into the crowd of guests, Damien let out a tense sigh. He looked at Victoria, acknowledging the fire in her eyes and the loyalty she displayed.

"I'm sorry for that, my love," Damien said, softening his expression. "I won't let him spoil our special day."

Victoria looked at him, her feelings torn between love and suspicion. She wanted to believe Damien's reassuring words, but Ethan's shadow hung over her.

"I know it's not your fault, Damien," she said, her voice tense. "I know we can overcome any challenge, Damien. Together, we'll be unstoppable."

Damien nodded, holding Victoria's hand firmly.

"I promise, Victoria. I will protect you and our life together from any threat, including Ethan Blackwood."

Victoria looked at him, her eyes shining with a mixture of love and determination.

The music began to play, and the guests surrendered to the joy of the celebration. As the two danced, a spark of uncertainty still hung in the air. Ethan Blackwood had cast a shadow over Victoria and Damien's wedding, and they knew they would have to face the consequences of that encounter in the future. But for now, they joined in a silent pact to face any adversity together, ready to protect each other and ensure that their love would withstand all the trials to come.

Five years later...

The quiet serenity of the luxurious Hamptons mansion was abruptly shattered by the strident arrival of police cars and ambulances. Sirens echoed through the streets as red and blue lights flashed frantically, illuminating the property.

Police officers jumped out of their vehicles, ready to handle the emergency. Among them, a stern-faced policewoman stood out. She approached Damien, who was standing outside the mansion, stunned and confused.

"Mr. Ashford, we received a call about a homicide at this residence. What do you know about it?" the policewoman asked, her tone professional yet understanding.

Damien looked incredulous, his trembling hands clenched into fists. "I... I don't know anything. I just got home from work and found the house like this."

The policewoman nodded to her colleagues and then focused back on Damien, maintaining a professional demeanor. "I understand. Please, come with us."

Together, they entered the mansion. The atmosphere was filled with a macabre sense. Blood stains splattered the walls, while furniture lay overturned and broken. The air was heavy with tension and sorrow.

In the center of the room, Victoria Sinclair's body lay in a pool of blood, her expression frozen in a mixture of terror and agony. The sight was horrifying and shocking, making it clear that she had fallen victim to a brutal act.

The policewoman turned to Damien, her gaze filled with compassion but also determination. "I'm sorry, Mr. Ashford. But your wife, Victoria Sinclair-Ashford, is dead."

Damien was speechless, his eyes welling up with tears. "No... it can't be. Victoria..."

As Damien was comforted by a police officer, his vacant gaze crossed paths with Ethan Blackwood, who was observing the scene from a distance. Ethan remained calm, his dark eyes hiding indecipherable secrets.
