The Witch and Her Alpha
Fireheart. · Completed · 203.9k Words
Introduction
I stood before Governor Rhys Amman, alpha of the Moon Valley pack and the most powerful man I've ever seen.
"I just did it..."
"Am I free now?" I asked the question that had been weighing on my mind all day, the Governor's face gave away nothing.
"I cannot let you go Gemma Bracken. It’s not safe."
"Saving me, while noble, doesn't absolve you of your other charges."
I fumed. I knew it! He wasn't going to release me because I was a witch.
An idea popped in my head.
“May I present an idea for you Governor?"
"What's your grand idea?"
He answered sarcastically.
"I'm very skilled, you can’t throw me back into prison."
The Governor's confusion was evident, "Do you want to work for me?"
"I want to work for you. In exchange for my freedom."
There was long silence and I silently prayed to every goddess that cared to listen that the Governor would consider my offer.
After what seemed to be eternity, he finally spoke.
"Okay Gemma Bracken."
"If you serve me faithfully for a year, as part of my personal security team, I will give you your freedom."
"Deal?"
He asked and I nodded.
"Deal."
.......
One day, Gemma Bracken, saves the Alpha and Governor Rhys Amman from an assassination. In exchange for her freedom, she is to serve him, her worst enemy. Under the service of the young ruler, Gemma's freedom is at stake but finds herself falling for him harder than she had ever imagined, especially when she hides a deadly secret that affects them both. Chapter 1
GEMMA'S POV
I stood behind the wooden counter cluttered with potion vials and enchanted trinkets. Not a single customer since I arrived here. I was exhausted. There was a small mirror in front of me, I gazed into it out of boredom. I could see bits of my curly red hair, dark green eyes and a heavily freckled face staring back at me. I was wearing a black hoodie that covered most of my hair and my body too, I was a bit cold and the hoodie added to the air of mystery that matched the shop's aura.
That chilly evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, the shop's creaky door swung open, allowing a gust of wind to sweep in, carrying with it a tall figure cloaked in shadows. His presence was intimidating, a palpable darkness emanating from him like a shroud. My brows furrowed as I eyed the newcomer suspiciously. I didn't like people with energy like his.
"Welcome to Wild West Enchantments or Gemma's enchantments, whichever tickles your fancy I guess," I greeted cautiously, my voice carrying a blend of curiosity and wariness.
The man's lips curved into a smile that seemed to hold secrets of its own. I couldn't see his face and something about that bothered me.
"I've heard you're the one to see for... special requests."
My eyes narrowed slightly. "Depends on what you're seeking, stranger."
His gaze bore into mine. "A love potion."
My heart skipped a beat, and a mixture of concern and skepticism filled my gaze. "A love potion, you say? Love potions can be delicate and complex. They're not that easy to make."
The man's voice grew cold, his dark energy intensifying. "I'm well aware of that. I'll pay handsomely for the potion. Money is no issue."
My curiosity got the better of me, and my tone turned inquisitive. "Who is this potion for? What drives you to want such magic?"
The man's eyes flashed with irritation. "Are you a witch or a busybody?"
Finally a question I could answer happily, my lips curled into a sly smile. "A bit of both, perhaps. I have my reasons. You see, my magic has a way of weaving destinies, and I want to make sure this potion finds its mark for the right reasons."
He sighed, his patience waning. "Fine, if it matters that much to you, it's for a woman. A woman I want much more than anything in this world. Is that detailed enough for your curiosity?"
My grin widened, even though he had given me an answer, it only unnerved me even more, I didn't make love potions, I didn't even like making them. There were a lot of potions and magic spells that I simply wouldn't make if they endangered lives. "Ah, the depths of the human heart, a complete puzzle to even the most skilled of witches. But there's more to this than meets the eye, isn't there?"
The man clenched his fists, his facade of composure starting to crack. "Look, I'll pay you triple your price. Just make the damn potion."
My persistence only grew stronger. His desperation was a serious concern to me, I wondered what poor woman he was trying to deceive.
"Triple, you say? She must be a truly captivating woman to warrant such desperation."
His patience snapped, and his hand shot out, fingers curling into a fist aimed at my face. Reacting with uncanny swiftness, I raised my hand, my fingers dancing in the air as if tracing invisible patterns. A sudden burst of magical energy enveloped the man, and before his eyes, he found himself transformed into a small, startled toad.
A gasp echoed through the room, and my apprentice, Lou, appeared in the doorway, her eyes widening at the bizarre sight before her. She was going to go off on a rant about why I shouldn't turn men into toads.
"What in the world, Gemma?" Lou exclaimed.
My gaze met Lou's, my expression a mix of surprise and mischief. "Well, Lou, it seems our customer here had a change of heart, or perhaps a change of form."
Lou's shock slowly turned into a chuckle. "You've turned him into a toad?"
My lips curled into a mischievous grin. "Seems fitting, doesn't it?"
As we both shared a moment of amusement, the toad let out a croak of protest, its tiny eyes glaring in frustration.
Lou turned to me, a more serious expression crossing her face. "Gemma, you need to turn him back. What if the officers start looking for him?"
My stubborn resolve wavered slightly, but I remained defiant. "Why should I? Honestly I think I'm doing a good deed ridding the world of this kind of man."
Lou's pleading gaze intensified. "Gemma! You know you have bad history with the law already! Don't make things worse! Just change him back quickly and we'll apologise and no one will know that you did this."
I let out a heavy sigh, my fingers tracing another intricate pattern in the air. The toad's form wavered, and in a burst of magical energy, the man stood before us once again, his expression a mix of shock and gratitude.
Before any words could be exchanged, the man darted for the exit, fleeing the shop with newfound haste.
"Fucking idiot!" I cursed as he ran out of the shop. Lou sighed as she massaged her temple.
"Well let's hope he's not going to report it."
I shrugged.
"I doubt he will. He was probably scared and ran away."
..........
A few moments later, footsteps echoed through the shop, and the room was flooded with the presence of Azov's officers. My heart raced as the guards started ransacking my shop.
"What the hell are you doing?" I demanded, my voice laced with annoyance.
Their boss walked in during that moment and I sighed as she saw the familiar face of Thomas Hoodville.
His gaze was unwavering as he glared at me. He must be sick of me at this point.
"You again?!"
He asked as he shook his head. He opened a piece of paper and read it out.
"Gemma Bracken, you're under arrest for using magic to harm another individual, which is in direct violation of the Azov laws on magic. You're also under arrest for practicing magic without a license. If I remember correctly, you lost your license five months ago."
My eyes widened in disbelief. "Harm? You don't understand. I was just making sure he wasn't up to something dangerous!"
"And, and, I didn't even sell him any potion! So why would you arrest me for practicing magic?!"
Thomas looked at me with a bored expression.
"Gemma you turned him into a toad."
The officers continued their search, ignoring my protests as they bound my wrists with sturdy deritium cuffs to stop me from using magic.
"You're always tangled up in these kinds of charges, Gemma," he retorted, his voice dripping with disdain. "I always knew that one of these days, you'll find yourself behind bars for good."
"Looks like today is the day."
Thomas said as he looked at me again.
The customer, now back to his original form, sneered at me, he looked very proud of himself. "Lock her up, officers. She's a menace to society."
As I was led away from my shop, my heart weighed heavy with a mix of anger and regret. I cast a final glance at my apprentice Lou, who stood by, helplessly watching the scene unfold.
"I'll be back Lou! Keep the shop open!"

On Christmas Eve, I aborted the CEO's child
On Christmas Eve night, my husband brought his mistress home and demanded that I, his pregnant wife, leave with nothing.
On this day, I lost my husband and also lost the child in my womb...
I Loved You in Silence, You Betrayed Me in French
At my birthday party, my husband whispered to his mistress in French that he missed her. His voice was low, but I heard it all—the black lingerie, the bit about how pregnancy makes you more sensitive. His French clients around us were laughing. He turned and put his arm around me, claiming he was just helping his clients come up with sweet nothings.
He doesn't know I understand every single word. Just like he doesn't know that inside my body, I'm carrying his other surprise. And his mistress—she's pregnant too. Two wombs, one secret.
Confrontation would be too cheap. Tears are worthless. I quietly started cataloging the hidden networks my father left behind, activating the Swiss accounts.
In seven days, Zoey Smith will cease to exist. And what will my husband's reaction be?
He Never Loved Me, Until I Left
I put away the divorce agreement with a wry smile.
When he and my son completely disappeared, he finally panicked.
Three months later .
He knelt down on the streets of Chicago in despair, begging me to remarry him.
My six-year-old son looked coldly at his biological father and said, "Get lost, you bad uncle! You don't deserve to be my dad!"
When I Disappeared, He Regretted It
The moment the screen lit up, my entire world came crashing down.
The woman on the bed was Calista - that girl who grew up with us since we were kids. And that hand caressing her skin was wearing the wedding ring I had personally put on Matteo's finger.
"I've missed you so much..."
"You drive me crazy, baby..."
Those sweet words I knew so well completely destroyed me.
Everyone said we were the perfect couple, but who knew this marriage was built on nothing but lies?
Since he's so good at acting, I guess it's time I gave him a show of my own. I'm going to make sure everyone sees what this "perfect husband" really is...
He Thought I'd Never Leave
When he said he was being bullied, I believed him. When he kissed me on that rooftop, I thought he felt the same. When he asked me to transfer schools with him, I said yes without hesitation.
Then I heard him bragging to his friends: "She'd save her first time for me. Hell, she'd still be thinking of me on her wedding night."
The bullying was staged. The kiss meant nothing. He just wanted me gone—so his new girl could feel more comfortable.
He thought I'd beg. He thought I'd cry. He thought I'd never actually leave.
I left the country.
And ran straight into his stepbrother.
I Died While They Threw Her a Party
Their real daughter came home. She'd only been back two years. That's all it took to erase twenty-four.
When kidnappers grabbed us, I used my body as a shield. They beat me until something inside me ruptured. I was dying from internal bleeding, but no one could tell.
My parents wouldn't even look at me. "This is your fault! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you!"
"Get downstairs and apologize to your sister. If you can't, pack your things and get out."
They threw her a party at a downtown hotel while I died alone in my room.
I thought they'd be relieved. Maybe even glad. I thought they'd just move on like I never existed.
But when they finally learned the truth, they fell apart.
Bury Me in His Regret
The kidnapper pressed the gun to my temple and asked, "Choose your wife or your sister-in-law?"
Zachary didn't hesitate. "Let Valerie go," he said.
He actually chose to save his sister-in-law! In that moment, even the baby in my belly seemed to stop kicking.
Later, they locked me in the basement. Drugs to delay labor were pumped into my veins over and over. Zachary wanted to save the "firstborn son" status for his sister-in-law's child.
When warm blood finally soaked through my skirt, I dialed the number I knew by heart with shaking hands.
"Zachary," I whispered into the phone, "our child... can't wait any longer."
The Kidney That Killed Me
A few months ago, my sister was hospitalized with kidney failure. The doctor said she needed a transplant. My family's first thought was me—the backup daughter they'd kept around all these years.
When my husband Allen took my hand with tears in his eyes and said, "Only you can save her," I agreed without hesitation.
When the doctor explained the surgical risks and potential complications, I smiled and nodded my understanding.
My parents said I'd finally learned what sisterly love meant.
Even Allen, who'd always been cold to me, held my hand gently and said, "The surgery's safe. You're so healthy, nothing will go wrong. When you recover, I'll take you to Hawaii."
But they don't know that no matter how the surgery goes, I won't be around to celebrate.
Because I just got my own test results—I have terminal brain cancer. I'm going to die anyway.
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
From first crush to wedding vows, George Capulet and I had been inseparable. But in our seventh year of marriage, he began an affair with his secretary.
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."

Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.

This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.

Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.

Alpha Nicholas's Little Mate
What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.
Please tell me you're joking, Lex.
But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.
