Introduction
Jaxon Thorne is the school’s golden boy. A royal dragon shifter, star captain of the Ignis Vanguard team, and heir to a collapsing empire, he is everything Maya detests: arrogant, hyper-privileged, and hopelessly competitive.
But when an anonymous curse strikes Jaxon down on the eve of the tournament, Maya is caught in the magical crossfire. Instead of destroying her, the curse tethers them together, transferring Jaxon’s volatile, destructive dragon magic straight into Maya’s non-magical core.
The catch? If they step more than fifty yards apart, their hearts physically begin to fail.
To save his family's legacy, Jaxon needs his magic back. To avoid execution for "magical theft," Maya needs to hide her new, unstable powers. Their solution? A highly public, utterly fake relationship to explain why the school's fiercest rivals are suddenly attached at the hip. But as the tournament heats up and the proximity forces their walls down, the fake sparks begin to feel dangerously real.
Chapter 1
The smell of rich chlorine and teenage arrogance always lingered longest in the varsity locker rooms.
I leaned heavily on my mop handle, wiping a bead of sweat from my forehead with the back of my taped wrist. My muscles screamed in a rhythmic, dull ache the kind earned from four hours of running drills on the obsidian track while the elemental prodigies practiced hovering above me, intentionally dropping embers on my lanes just to watch me dodge.
“Keep moving, Null,” the track coach had sneered this afternoon. “Agility is the only reason your scholarship exists.”
He wasn’t wrong. At Aethelgard Vanguard Academy, if you couldn't throw lightning or manipulate tectonic plates, you were background noise. I was a Null. Born to two high-tier Ignis mages, I had inherited all of their stubbornness and absolutely none of their spark. My younger brother had inherited enough fire to melt steel; I had inherited a pair of fast legs and a cynical worldview.
The locker room lights flickered, casting long, skeletal shadows across the rows of metallic lockers. It was past midnight. The rest of the campus was asleep, or partying in the high-tier dorm suites across the quad. I just wanted to finish my mandatory maintenance shift so I could crawl into my cot in the subterranean lower levels of the area the high-borns affectionately called "The Ditch."
A sudden, sharp drop in temperature made me freeze.
The air didn't just turn cold; it turned heavy. The lingering scent of chlorine evaporated, instantly replaced by the sharp, synthetic smell of ozone and wet stone. A frost line began to bloom across the gray tile floor, crawling rapidly toward my worn-out sneakers.
"Hey!" I called out, my voice echoing off the metallic lockers. "The facilities are closed. Faction practice ended three hours ago."
No answer. Only the low, agonizing hum of magical energy building in the dark.
I dropped the mop. My fingers instinctively curled into fists, the heavy athletic tape protecting my knuckles. Years of being the only non-magical target in a school full of predators had taught me one rule: never wait to see what’s hunting you.
I slipped silently around the corner of Row 4, my rubber-soled shoes making no sound against the freezing tiles.
Through the frosted glass doors leading to the private varsity plunge pools, a silhouette shifted. It wasn't one of the student athletes. The figure was cloaked in a heavy, light-absorbing fabric that didn't belong to any academy uniform.
And on the floor, cornered against the edge of the steaming volcanic pool, was Jaxon Thorne.
The school's golden boy. The royal dragon shifter. The guy whose face was plastered on every recruitment banner from here to the capital. Right now, he didn't look like an empire's heir. His chest was heaving, his dark hair plastered to his forehead with sweat. Gold sparks flickered weakly around his collarbone, but they were being systematically snuffed out by a cloud of black, crystalline fog swirling around his knees.
"You're a long way from the throne, little lizard," a voice hissed from beneath the cloak. It sounded like grinding ice.
The stranger raised a hand. Clutching their fingers was a jagged spike of black ice, pulsing with a dark, violet core. It wasn't natural elemental magic. It was a curse artifact highly illegal, highly lethal, and designed to rip a shifter's soul right out of their chest.
Jaxon bared his teeth, his pupils slitting into thin, predatory gold lines. "Do it," he growled, his voice thick with unrefined dragon heat. "But you better kill me on the first strike. Because if I get my hands on your throat "
The cloaked figure didn't hesitate. They lunged, driving the black-ice spike straight toward Jaxon's exposed chest.
My brain didn't process a decision. My body just reacted. If the golden boy died on my shift, the school board would blame the nearest Null, and my family would leave me to rot in an imperial cell.
I launched myself across the wet tiles.
My shoulder connected with the stranger’s ribs in a brutal, low-tackle. The impact felt like hitting a wall of solid glacier. A shocking, bone-deep cold ripped through my skin, but the momentum was enough to throw the attacker off balance. The black-ice spike missed Jaxon’s heart, shattering violently against the obsidian rim of the pool.
A deafening crack echoed through the chamber.
The artifact didn't just break; it exploded into a pressurized shockwave of dark violet light. The blast threw me backward, my spine slamming into the tile floor. Air fled my lungs in a desperate gasp.
For a second, the world went completely silent.
Then came the pain. It wasn't the external burn of fire or the bruising impact of stone. It felt like a white-hot iron fishhook had snagged inside the center of my chest, dragging a heavy, molten chain behind it.
I gasped, my hands flying to my sternum. Right through the center of my cheap, gray maintenance shirt, a glowing, violet thread of light was pulsing. It extended outward, stretching through the air like a living vein, until it anchored directly into the chest of Jaxon Thorne.
Jaxon was on his knees, clutching his throat. The gold light in his eyes was entirely gone, replaced by a dull, dead gray. He looked up at me, his face pale, his lips tinged with blue.
"What... what did you do?" he choked out, his voice entirely stripped of its usual dominant resonance.
I tried to push myself up, but the moment I leaned away from him, the iron hook in my chest twisted. A violent, agonizing spasm gripped my heart. My vision blurred into black spots. Across from me, Jaxon collapsed onto his side, his fingers clawing at the tiles as his chest seized up in perfect synchronization with mine.
Fifty yards, a cold, instinctual realization whispered in the back of my mind. If we separate, we die.
The cloaked attacker was already scrambling toward the emergency exit, their broken ribs hissing with black smoke. They didn't look back. They didn't need to. The trap had already sprung.
I dragged myself forward, my knees scraping against the ice-filmed tile, until I was sitting less than three feet from the fallen dragon captain. The moment the distance closed, the agonizing spasm in my chest eased into a dull, thumping ache.
Suddenly, a terrifying wave of heat flooded my veins.
It wasn't mine. I didn't have magic. But my skin was blistering, smoke curling lazily from the tips of my fingers as Jaxon’s stolen, volatile dragon fire began to pour into my completely empty, non-magical core.
Jaxon reached out, his grip trembling but vicious as he locked his fingers around my wrist. His skin was freezing, completely drained of his natural warmth.
"Don't move," he whispered, his gold-flecked eyes staring at me with a mixture of sheer terror and intense, burning hatred. "If you run... you kill us both."
I looked down at our locked hands, at the violet tether pulsing between our hearts, and realized my invisible life at Aethelgard Academy was officially over.

After One Night with the Alpha
I thought I was waiting for love. Instead, I got fucked by a beast.
My world was supposed to bloom at the Moonshade Bay Full Moon Festival—champagne buzzing in my veins, a hotel room booked for Jason and me to finally cross that line after two years. I’d slipped into lacy lingerie, left the door unlocked, and lay on the bed, heart pounding with nervous excitement.
But the man who climbed into my bed wasn’t Jason.
In the pitch-black room, drowned in a heady, spicy scent that made my head spin, I felt hands—urgent, scorching—searing my skin. His thick, pulsing cock pressed against my dripping cunt, and before I could gasp, he thrust hard, tearing through my innocence with ruthless force. Pain burned, my walls clenching as I clawed at his iron shoulders, stifling sobs. Wet, slick sounds echoed with every brutal stroke, his body unrelenting until he shuddered, spilling hot and deep inside me.
"That was amazing, Jason," I managed to say.
"Who the fuck is Jason?"
My blood turned to ice. Light slashed across his face—Brad Rayne, Alpha of Moonshade Pack, a werewolf, not my boyfriend. Horror choked me as I realized what I’d done.
I ran away for my life!
But weeks later, I woke up pregnant with his heir!
They say my heterochromatic eyes mark me as a rare true mate. But I’m no wolf. I’m just Elle, a nobody from the human district, now trapped in Brad's world.
Brad’s cold gaze pins me: “You carry my blood. You’re mine.”
There is no other choice for me but to chose this cage. My body also betrays me, craving the beast who ruined me.

His Lethal Obsession
He didn't respond but moved his eyes around the room, scanning the place.
"Wha...what are you doing here?"
His icy blue eyes returned to me, sending shivers down my spine. Then further dropped to my dress and then back to my eyes.
"The shit going on downstairs, what does it mean?" he asked, making my legs as weak as they are eager to flee.
"It's....it my wedding,"
He scoffed darkly. "Excuse me?"
I swallowed. "I am......getting married,"
He let out a humorless laugh, looking away and giving me lesser comfort. He looked at me with a demonic frown.
Terror washed me.
"Every single motherfucker/human being here, be it adult or child, including you, will burn before that happens,"

It clearly said that Valeska was Maeve and Thorin’s daughter. “You have been lying to me for months now. Why did you hide that she is my daughter? Why did you start hating me? Did you never love me?”

Before I could answer, he moved closer, suddenly looming over me, his face inches from mine. I felt my breath caught, my lips parting in surprise.
"Then this is the price for speaking ill of me to others," he murmured, nipping my lower lip before claiming my mouth in a real kiss. It began as punishment but quickly transformed into something else entirely as I responded, my initial rigidity melting into compliance, then active participation.
